In early September of 2002, the police illegally arrested 13 Falun Gong practitioners. Following former president Jiang Zemin's ruthless policy regarding killing Falun Gong practitioners ("It is not a crime to beat them to death, just accuse them of having committed suicide"), the police brutally tortured the practitioners.

Practitioners Mr. Li Yuhai and Tang Pinghu's hand joints were dislocated as a result of the torture. They were sent to the hospital to have their joints relocated, and an acquaintance actually witnessed the surgery. Sources have revealed that practitioner Mr. Huang Ruzhong was hung from the ceiling. Several days later, his pants were still left in the room he was tortured in. Practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiuying was in her 60's, yet after she was tortured, she was hung up for an entire day and night. The other practitioners were tortured at the police department for 11-12 hours. Practitioners' families hired a lawyer, but none of the practitioners were released, despite their innocence.

Practitioners Mr. Li Yuhai, Mr. Tang Pinghu, Mr. Huang Ruzhong, Mr. Huang Rufu, Mr. Zhao Wencheng and Mr. Wang Wenhui were illegally sentenced to 14, 13, 12, 8, 4 and 3 years of imprisonment respectively. They were detained at the Jiuquan Power Plant. Practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiuying was illegally sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment. Her family said that her blood pressure reached 180, but the Lanzhou Prison still refused to release her. They have extorted 30,000 yuan from her family. Recently, Ms. Zhou has not even been allowed to receive phone calls.

The local labor camp didn't want to accept practitioners who were sent there illegally, so the head of the detention center invited officials from the management section of the labor camp to dinner, to persuade the labor camp to accept the practitioners. Practitioner Ms. Li Xiuying was detained at the Provincial Women's Labor Camp in Lanzhou City. Due to the harsh conditions at the labor camp, she suffered heart disease and high blood pressure; however she was still forced to work in the labor camp.

On July 4, the local police abducted practitioner Ms. Xue Meiying from the mining area in Gansu Province. Details are still being investigated.

Mr. Zhou Jinpeng from Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has endured ongoing persecution because of practicing Falun Gong. The authorities have had him on a most-wanted list for the past three years. He was abducted on September 2, 2004, and was transferred to the Chifeng Jail in Inner Mongolia in June 2005. Zhou Jinpeng has now been illegally sentenced to a seven-year prison term.

Mr. Zhou Jinpeng, 40, is an honest and kind person who worked in the Propaganda Department of the Tongliao Power Plant in Inner Mongolia. In 2000, Mr. Zhou wrote six letters to the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee telling them the truth about Falun Gong. The 610 Office intercepted his letters. Then they used them as proof of his "crime," and as an excuse to detain and torture him. Later, because Mr. Zhou posted and distributed flyers and letters that said "Falun Dafa is good," Tongliao police officers Shao Jun, Cui Liancheng, and Wang Bo ransacked his home twice, labeled him as "disrupting social order," detained him and extorted money in fines.

On July 8, 2002, the most vicious person in the local 610 Office, together with seven other people, including the head of the police department in the Power Plant, and the head of the local police station, broke into Zhou Jinpeng's home and confiscated his computer, printer, and many Falun Gong materials. With his righteous thoughts, Zhou Jinpeng escaped from his home on the third floor. But he couldn't return home anymore. The 610 Office put him on a wanted list. To try to catch Mr. Zhou, they abducted his brother and his great aunt and uncle, tortured and humiliated them. At the same time, the lawless people dismissed Zhou from his job. Zhou Jinpeng's son is 8 years old and was in elementary school. His wife had no job. The family completely lost their source of income.

The 610 Office had Zhou Jinpeng on the wanted list for three years while he moved from place to place without a home.

On June 30, 2004, the Clearwisdom website published Mr. Zhou's letter to President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. The letter was also published in Tongliao Truth Words, 5th issue, to aid in truth clarification and in saving people in his region. Around July 20th, the Police Department in Liao City, Inner Mongolia, circulated over 140 arrest warrants for Zhou Jinpeng and offered rewards for his arrest. In the countryside, the arrest warrants included his picture for everyone to see.

At about 3 o'clock in the afternoon of September 2, 2004, 610 Office policeman Shao Jun and some others abducted Zhou Jinpeng at a truth clarification materials production site. The police confiscated a brand new digital all-in-one printer, a notebook, two external hard drives, a laser printer, a color inkjet printer, a scanner, a laminator and other equipment. The total loss to the practitioners was about 25,000 yuan.

When the police abducted Zhou Jinpeng, Shao Jun led the other policemen to beat him in public. Later, a witness said that the police handcuffed Zhou Jinpeng's hands behind his back, beat him to the ground, and then stepped on his face. Zhou Jinpeng kept shouting "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is the righteous practice! Restore Falun Gong's name!" (Note: there were three other practitioners abducted at the same time, who are now released.)

When the police reported their "accomplishment" to the higher level authorities, they declared that they had "uncovered" a major case, "confiscated" over 100 thousand yuan worth of equipment, and had arrested the "leader."

While he was illegally detained in Tongliao City's Hexi Detention Center, Zhou Jinpeng continued to protest the illegal detention. The policemen put metal shackles on him, and ordered the criminal inmates to shave his head with force.

In June 2005, Zhou Jinpeng was secretly transferred to Chifeng Jail in Inner Mongolia, which is also called the No. 4 Jail of Inner Mongolia (Chifeng No. 4 Jail). Now Zhou Jinpeng has been illegally sentenced to seven years in prison. We do not have information about his current condition.

The Jinzhou Forced Labor Camp brutally persecutes Falun Gong practitioners and attempts to forcibly brainwash practitioners who hold firmly to their beliefs. If practitioners do not relinquish their beliefs, they face torture, including shocks from electric batons, having their feet shackled, being handcuffed to a metal chair, being forced to sit on a small stool in one position for long durations, sleep deprivation, force-feeding, beatings and other cruelties. The following are details of the persecution of two Falun Gong practitioners at Jinzhou and Benxi Forced Labor Camps in Liaoning Province.

Li Wen (alias), a Falun Gong practitioner, was sent to Xinshou Team, Jinzhou Forced Labor Camp on April 29, 2004. On arrival, he refused to wear the prison uniform, and continued to practice Falun Gong. He was often beaten. On one occasion he was handcuffed for six days and nights. Four times, his feet were shackled and his hands were handcuffed to a metal chair for five days and nights. Li Wen's health deteriorated under those conditions.

Li Wen went on hunger strikes three times in order to protest the illegal detention. On September 15, 2004, the persecution of Li Wen was increased when Li Xinjiang, head of the Education Branch, and Wang Peng, a group head assigned a dozen people to torture him. The persecutors tied his legs up for two hours at a time, and they roughly inserted a feeding tube in and out of his nose to torture him, even when he was not on a hunger strike. This torture caused severe bleeding, the blood covering his face, his mouth and the feeding tube.

On September 21, Li Wen refused to read the so-called "Three Letters" renouncing Falun Gong, so he was sent to Xinshou Team by Bai Jinlong, the Second Team leader. While detained in Xinshou Team, Li Wen was persecuted by seven to eight people, including the group head Wang Peng, officer Chen Changbin and Yi Mingde. He was hung up with both hands handcuffed, while Chen Changbin and others hit his knees, ankles, feet and ribs with sticks. They also burned his fingers and a toe with cigarettes and wiped excrement into his mouth and nostrils.

On September 24, officers Yang Tinglun and Zhang Chunfeng were forced to bring Li Wen to the hospital to have an X-ray when his ankles swelled up to the size of his thigh. He could not walk for a month. One of his handcuffs had broken open while he struggled desperately due to the pain. Li Wen's fingers have still not recovered from the cigarette burns.

Another practitioner, Wang Lin, was also tortured at that time. He was sent to Jinzhou Forced Labor Camp on September 9, 2005. On September 15, five people lead by Bai Jinlong tortured him. After his legs were tied up for three hours, officers Wang Zhijiang and Tiejun stepped on his legs. One officer weighed 209 pounds and the other weighed over 198 pounds. Both of Wang Lin's legs turned black. They thought Wang Lin would have to have both legs amputated. In the end, Wang Lin was rendered unable to walk for a long time.

Currently, Li Wen and Wang Lin have both been sent to Benxi Forced Labor Camp for further persecution. As soon as they arrived they were attacked by collaborators. Against their wills they succumbed to the brainwashing. Later, however, they regretted their mistake and declared their so-called "transformation" null and void. Since then, the heads of Benxi Forced Labor Camp became very angry, and have started to persecute the two practitioners even more severely.

Mr. Zhu Shuyue was a 54-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Jiangmifeng Town, Jilin City, Jilin Province. Before practicing Falun Gong, he could not walk normally due to his illness. He tried many kinds of treatment but without any success. In1996, Mr. Zhu started to practice Falun Gong and recovered through his cultivation practice. However, since the suppression of Falun Gong by the CCP began on July 20, 1999, Mr. Zhu suffered tremendously both mentally and physically. He could no longer live a normal life, and was arrested and taken to brainwashing classes twice. As a result, Mr. Zhu had a relapse of his old illness and passed away on June 6, 2005.

Ms. Huo Shuwen was a 40-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. She came across Falun Gong in July 2002 at the Harbin Wanjia Forced Labor Camp as a prisoner there. After witnessing the miracle of Falun Gong and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, she resolutely decided to learn the practice and to expose the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Huo verified how practitioners Ms. Liu Limei and Ms. Fu Guilan were tortured to death there. Because she too practiced Falun Gong, she was subjected to persecution there as well, leading to heart disease. When her term was up in June 2004, it was too late for treatment and she died on July 2, 2005.

Mr. Zhang Xueyu was a 68-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province. He was a retired worker. On the night of February 28, 2003, his wife was arrested from home by local police and the head of the neighborhood committee, and was subsequently illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor. Mr. Zhang worried a lot about his wife day and night. As a result, his illness became more and more serious. He could not take care of himself and had nobody else to look after him either. In April 2004, Mr. Zhang passed away.

Ms. Xin Jianfen was a practitioner from Dingzhou City, Hebei Province. She lived by the No. 2 Middle School. Since July 20, 1999, she had been incarcerated at the Dingzhou City Detention Center for a long period of time and subjected to all sorts of torture methods. However, Ms. Xin was steadfast in cultivation despite the inhuman persecution. She was released to go home later on. Because Ms. Xin suffered tremendously physically and mentally, she died on April 30, 2005. During her illegal detention period, her daughter Wang Juan was persecuted to death at the Mancheng County Prison in Hebei Province for continuing to practice Falun Gong. At the time when Ms. Xin passed away, her daughter-in-law, whose recent situation is unknown, was still illegally jailed at the Baoding Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Wei Rong was in her 30s. She was a Falun Gong practitioner from the No. 6 Section, Nanling Village, Laochi Township, Chuanshan District, Suining City, Sichuan Province. In 2000, Laochi Township 610 Office staff Zhou Kaiwan and others went to Ms. Wei's residence. They grabbed one of her Falun Gong books, beat her violently and then took her by force to the Laochi Township. They hung her up from an elm tree for two days while bombarding her with propaganda. After the incident, township government officials went to Ms. Wei's home many times to harass, intimidate and persecute her, causing the relapse of her old illnesses. Ms. Wei died in January 2003.

Ms. Li Min was about 40 years old. She used to work as a train attendant at the Changchun Railroad Bureau in Jilin Province. She was sent to forced labor twice. On May 29, 2005, her employer and the Changchun Railroad Bureau Police Station sent 5 or 6 people to her place to arrest her. There was a copier and other equipment at her home at that time. During the process, Ms. Li fell from the sixth floor and died on her way to the hospital. The names of the police who participated in her incident are not known yet. Ms. Li's home address was: Apt. No. 602, Unit 1, Building 5, Xingye Residential Area (apartment building of the Changchun Railroad Bureau), Kuancheng District, Changchun City.

Mr. Li Peiyi, 68, was from Lixiao Village, Yangqiao Township, Linquan County, Anhui Province. He and his wife were introduced to Falun Gong in 1998. After practicing, their diseases disappeared without medical treatment. They were illegally sentenced to forced labor after they went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in September 1999. The forced labor camp refused to accept them because of their age. The 610 Office of Linquan County took them home and released them only after the authorities had extorted 7000 yuan from their family members. They were taken to a brainwashing center in 2001. They were held in the detention center in Linquan County because they refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. After they suffered inhuman persecution there, they were sent to the mental hospital in Fuyang City for further persecution. Later, the authorities came to their home to harass them many times. Mr. Li's wife was persecuted to death in 2002.

Li Peiyi was persecuted to the verge of death in August 2003 and was sent to the local police station in an ambulance. When the local police station notified the village leader to pick him up, the authorities asked the leader to write a Guarantee Statement. Seeing that he had lost consciousness, the village leader wasn't willing to write the statement on behalf of Mr. Li. Li Peiyi survived after he was taken home and treated by a doctor. Mr. Li Peiyi lost his memory due to the severe persecution. He often cried. The local police station sent people to his house twice to disturb and intimidate him, and also tried to force him to write the guarantee statement despite his condition. Li Peiyi died in April (or maybe as early as February 28) without yielding to the authorities.

The prison has ten detention areas plus a hospital. Each area detains about 25 to 35 Falun Gong practitioners. The hospital also detains some practitioners, which includes those who have gone on hunger strikes for a long time and are there to receive punitive force-feeding.

Police officers use detainees as a source of income. Detainees are forced to work 16 to 20 hours a day with no breaks. Even eating and using the toilet needs to be done quickly. Times of using the toilet are limited, and bowl washing is prohibited. Due to the extremely heavy workload, detainees often faint at the work site. As long as a practitioner is alive, they are forced to work these long hours.

Police officers also force detainees to buy expired food and other things. Sometimes at such forced shopping trips, police officers will steal 50 to 100 yuan from each person. Detainees are also forced to donate money. Such large-scale donations happen three times a year.

Police officers and group leaders do not take responsibility if they torture detainees to death. They tightly monitor every person's output. For printing jobs, one is required to finish 8,000 to 10,000 pieces a day. Some detained women get tuberculosis, but still have to work. Officers make a lot of money from the detainees. For each newly detained Falun Gong practitioner, they arrange two criminals to monitor, brainwash and torture them. Police officers promise to reduce the criminals' terms in exchange for their help in reforming practitioners. If a practitioner does not yield, the two monitoring criminals would torture that practitioner more cruelly.

The prison hospital has detained many practitioners. One practitioner from the 5th area went on a hunger strike for over a year. She was bound to a bed in the hospital and was very weak, but the police officers kept on cursing her and repeatedly replaced the force-feeding tubes to abuse her. However, that practitioner still clarified the truth with strong righteous thoughts or shouted: "Falun Dafa is good!"

One practitioner from Anshan City got a broken hip, and she went on a hunger strike with another practitioner to protest the persecution. Their courage and righteous thoughts earned respect even from some of the criminals. Still, they suffered long term torture, such as being beaten, having their heads bounced off walls, being locked up in the bathroom, having cold water poured on them, being pricked by needles, etc.

Criminal Liu Lixin monitored practitioners and reported their every move to police officers to curry favor. She brainwashed practitioners by reading materials that defame Falun Gong. She also recorded her readings on tape and played them repeatedly. She is very cruel and tortured practitioners in various ways. She would beat practitioners when she found they were not looking at the slanderous material. She pricked one practitioner's head with needles, causing bleeding from the practitioners' ears. She frequently pushed and pulled practitioners, knocking them to the ground. She was known as the "great evil person" around the hospital. Liu's torture caused some practitioners to suffer a mental collapse. Police officers also injected drugs into practitioners' bodies, causing great harm or even death. They have done everything they could to cover up the truth and hide it from the family members.

Practitioner Fang Huiyun has refused to cooperate with the persecution. Police officer Li Xi coerced criminals Su Li and others to torture her. They beat her in the shop, in the bathroom, in the halls, and would not allow her to sleep. Su would beat or curse Fang when she used the bathroom or washed her face. When she was knocked down to the ground, Su Li would step on her. Fang suffered heavy injuries from the beatings, and reported the issue to group leader Li Xi. Instead of stopping the beatings, Li Xi asked another criminal, Diao Chunyan, if she had seen the beating. Diao said "No." So Su Li told Fang, "Don't you know Li Xi already knows all this. She lets me knock you down." Su Li's tortures caused one of Fang's thighbones to break and now she is disabled. group leaders have even praised Su Li for her cruelty.

Police officers have coerced criminals to torture practitioners. They stripped practitioners, forced them to stand in the water room on winter nights, poured water on them, and attacked them in groups. Practitioner Liu Liwei was forced to remain standing from 6 a.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. Later, officers and criminals stripped Liu and left her to freeze in the courtyard on winter days. Criminal Tao Chunxue beat and kicked Liu Liwei, which left her body covered with injuries. Tao also did not allow her to sleep. Even some criminals said that Tao is too cruel.

Police officers coerced criminals Liu Lixin and Yu Xiuqin to brainwash practitioner Wang Sufang. They did not allow Wang to sleep and beat her in front of over a hundred criminals. When Wang went on a hunger strike for ten days, Liu and Yu continued to torture her.

Still, the torture and brainwashing could not change the practitioners' minds. Most of the practitioners clarified the truth to the criminals, and those who yielded under the pressure published "solemn declarations" to re-affirm their determination to practice Falun Gong.

In the 8th prison area, there was a practitioner in her 50s. Criminals would beat her every morning and evening. Police officers twisted her arms behind her back while criminals beat her. But she kept on shouting with righteous thoughts, "Falun Dafa is good." Criminals and officers taped her mouth shut, but she struggled to remove the tape and kept on shouting. Not long after, she was released.

Ms. Liu Yazhi was then unlawfully imprisoned at the Inner Mongolia Public Security Prison. The police brutally tortured her following the lead of Zhou Jianhua, deputy head of the prison. In April 2003, Zhou Jianhua started to use forceful methods to "transform" Ms. Liu. The police transferred convicts from her section to other places in the prison, and then they locked her in a small room and broadcast loud, slanderous propaganda about Falun Gong. Ms. Liu would not listen and shouted, "Falun Dafa is good." Five or six policemen then came in and held her hands and legs, while another crushed her from above. They used the quilts to cover her head to force her to turn against Falun Gong. Ms. Liu could not breathe, and her face became red and swollen. She could not open her eyes, and her hands became swollen, as well.

Ms. Liu suffered inhumane tortures like this continuously over a four-day period. This lasted until she lost feeling in her lower body. She could not move and lay in bed for more than two months. Because of this torture, she could not live by herself, and she needed someone to carry her and help her move around. Despite her condition, Zhou Jianhua still said she was faking and continued to torture Ms. Liu.

During these forceful transformation sessions, the police would not allow her to use the toilet or have contact with other people. Under the command of the police, convicts covered her with her quilts and ruthlessly beat her. Afterwards, Ms. Liu Yazhi was sent to the First Women's Prison in Inner Mongolia, where she suddenly fainted and fell to the ground twice because of brutal torture. As a result, her right leg was injured and she could not walk.

Ms. Lu Caiyun, an Inner Mongolian Falun Gong practitioner from Aohanqi, was arrested by local police and taken to the police station. The police tried to force her to admit that Falun Gong was an illegal organization, but she would not cooperate. The police then handcuffed her to the radiator and forced her to stand in an awkward position for long periods of time. Ms. Liu Caiyun's legs went numb and swelled up, and she was only allowed to sit on the floor for a short period at night. She was tortured like this continuously for four days until she completely lost feeling in her left leg. She has still not recovered.

Ms. Jiang Yuji is a Falun Gong practitioner from Xinmin Township, Pi County, Chengdu City. The 610 Office in Beijing illegally detained her and placed her in a brainwashing center for "transformation" when she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in 2000. They released her only after they had extorted 2,000 yuan.

Jiang Yuji went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong again in 2001, but was arrested and detained in a detention center in Pi County. The local authorities tried to extort 20,000 yuan from her family members. Because her family refused to cooperate with their unlawful demands, the police forcefully broke open the door to get into the family's house and stole the only valuable thing there - food stores worth thousands of yuan.

In the detention center. The police chief Zhang, dragged Jiang Yuji and the others out to beat them. Zhang kicked, trampled, and shocked Ms. Jiang with electric batons until she lost consciousness. A policewoman named Geng Jun, however, said that Jiang Yujie was faking death.

Since Jiang Yuji refused to be "transformed", she was then detained in Zizhongnanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp for two years. During this period, the prison guards in Team Five directed the prisoners to force-feed Jiang Yujie. They used a hard tool to pry open her mouth, which caused her teeth to become loose. Ms. Jiang's feet were kicked to the point that she could not walk properly.

The female prison guard of Team Seven, Zhang Xiaofang, punished Ms. Jiang many times by forcing her to stand during the day, and forbidding her to sleep at night. She even tied Jiang Yuji up to a big tree for a long time. Many other Falun Gong practitioners were often tied up on that tree. Not long after, the branches and leaves became dried up and died. Jiang Yuji developed heart disease and became mentally disoriented under the relentless cruel persecution of the prison guards.

On New Year's Day 2003, the prison guards saw that Jiang Yuji was about to die, so they asked Jiang Yuji's family to pick her up and give her medical treatment. However, after she got home, they often called to harass her family. The local authorities also went to her home to harass her from time to time. Jiang Yuji left home in June 2003, suffering greatly under both mental and physical persecution. No one has known her whereabouts since then.

On June 29, 2005, the Jinan City Detention Center, which was located in Liuchangshan in Jinan City, relocated and is now housed in Shangdianzi Village in Zhong-gong in the Central District of Jinan City. It has been upgraded and renamed "Shandong Province Detention Center." Liuchangshan Detention Center had been a major site for the Communist Party to persecute Falun Gong practitioners since July 20, 1999.

Falun Gong practitioner Wang Fengyu from Laiwu City was sentenced to nine years on May 7, 2004, after being incarcerated in the Jinan City Detention Center for several months.

On December 20, 2004, Ms. Meng Lijun, a practitioner from Zhangqiu City, was arrested by officials from the Jinan City 610 Office and the Jinan City Police Department's Tianqiao Branch. She was incarcerated in the Liuchangshan Detention Center and protested by going on a hunger strike for over two weeks. The criminals locked her onto a torture device called the "Dragon Bed" for over ten hours, force-fed her, and brutally tortured her. Ms. Meng was not released until she was on the brink of death.

Mr. Zhang Kunlun, former head of the Sculpture Research Center of the Shandong Art Institute and professor in the art department, was granted Canadian citizenship in 1995. In April 1996 he went to China to look after his elderly mother and continued to practice Falun Gong. On the night of July 1, 2000, Kuyuan Road Police Station officers arrested him for handing out truth-clarifying materials. On July 3, Professor Zhang was transferred to Liuchangshan Detention Center and was incarcerated for a month.

On the night of January 13, 2001, six practitioners, including Ms. Xu Fayue from Jinan City, a student from the Shandong Mining Institute (enrolled in 1997), were sent to the Liuchangshan Detention Center. After staging a hunger strike in protest for five days, Ms. Xu Fayue was tied to the "Dragon Bed" and force-fed. Her arms and legs were bound tightly, only a thin quilt covered her, and her hands and legs were exposed. She was not released to use the restroom and had to soil the bed. In the end, part of one of her big toes, part of one her small toes, and all of one of her third toes became frostbitten and had to be amputated, which led to a permanent foot disability.

Practitioner Ms. Wang Wei, a Master's degree student, was arrested in 2001 by personnel from the 610 Office in the Lixia District of Jinan City and the Dianliu Police Station. Her child was only seven months old at the time she was in custody in the Liuchangshan Detention Center. Ms. Wang was sentenced to five and a half years, after a prolonged detention of one and a half years. Other practitioners also suffered the same plight.

According to the The Jinan Times, the Liuchangshan Detention Center, "has been overcrowded for many years, and all the equipment was out-of-date. Further, as the number of detainees is large, it can no longer meet the new demand. The Jinan City Police Department, therefore, spent a huge amount of money to build a new detention center in the southern mountain area. The new facility occupies a land area of over 100 Mu (16.5 acres), with a total construction area of 36,000 square meters. The construction of the new detention center was started in December 1999, was put in use at the beginning of 2005, and is the most modern detention center in Shandong Province. Each cell is equipped with an advanced surveillance system. One can clearly observe everything happening in each cell in the surveillance center."

Previously, there were three main places in the Liuchangshan Area where Falun Gong practitioners were extensively persecuted, including the Jinan City Legal Training Center (which was actually the training center for the Jinan City 610 Office officials and held the Jinan 610 Office brainwashing class), the Jinan City Forced Labor Camp, and the Jinan City Detention Center. These three dark dens were close to each other. It is said that for reasons of construction, the Jinan City Forced Labor Camp would be relocated, too.

According to those involved, on December 28, 2001, while she was going to the toilet, police at the Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp pushed practitioner Ms. Liu Jian through a window on the third floor, causing her death.

Jinan City Legal Training Center

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Feng Jianzhen, 57 years old, is a farmer from Shangtou Village in Xinzhi Township, Liquan County, Shaanxi Province. On January 27, 2000, her husband was tortured to death simply because he practiced Falun Gong. On June 5, 2001, her child also died as a result of torture.

On the afternoon of July 8, 2005, Ms. Feng Jianzhen was arrested and her whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Yan Shufen, from Shuangcheng City in Heilongjiang Province, was detained at the Women's Prison. Her daughter went to see her on July 8, 2005. Yan Shufen was very pale and had to be supported by two people to walk.

In September 2004, Ms. Duan Shibao of Baoji City was locked up in the detention center for practicing Falun Gong. On June 28, 2005, the Weibin District Court of Baoji City sentenced Ms. Duan Shibao to 8 years in prison Ms. Duan has lodged an appeal.

Practitioners Liu Jianzhuo and Lu Xin, employees of the Baoji No. 71 Letterbox Factory, have been detained and warrants for their arrest have been issued.

On March 8, 2005, police officers Han Mengfa and Song Xiujie from Shangzhuang Township, Rongcheng City, Shandong Province, arrested Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Yu Hongzhen from Liu Jiadian, Ms. Gao Peirong from Zhongguzhang Village, Ms. Sun Yongling from Maoliujia Village, and Ms. Wang Renzhi from Dongshangzhuang Village. The police took the practitioners to Rongcheng City Detention Center on charges of illegal assembly. Their families then went to Shangzhuan Police Station to request their release. Not only did the police not release the practitioners, but they sent Ms. Yu Hongzhen, Ms. Gao Peirong and Ms. Wang Renzhi to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Zibo City of Shandong Province. Ms. Sun Yongling's whereabouts are still unknown.

6. [Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province] Facts about the Persecution of Practitioner Ms. Li Yunzhi and Others
On July 3, 2005, the Tangwanghe District police of Yichun City illegally arrested practitioners Ms. Li Yunzhi (over 40 years old), Mr. Zhou Guishan (over 30 years old) and Ms. Zheng Yuqin (over 50 years old), and ransacked their houses. The practitioners were sent to Tangwanghe Detention Center for refusing to give up their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance."

A report states that Ms. He Chunliu (over 30 years old) was arrested by police from Wuyiling, illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor and taken to Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Guan Guiqin (60 years old) and Ms. Du Lingfen (over 60 years old) have each been sentenced to 2 years of forced labor and are being held at the Wuyiling Detention Center.

Ms. Wang Jidan, Ms. Li Dongju and others from Shenshu Township are being held at the Tieli Detention Center. Ms. Liu Yuqin is still being held at the Meixi Detention Center and is on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention.

On September 14, 2004, Ms. Gou Qiufang from Baoji City, about 40 years old, went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Her whereabouts are still unknown.

Ms. Yang Rong from Baoji College is 26 years old. She was taken to Lingyun Hotel Brainwashing Center in Baoji City at the beginning of April 2005. She managed to walk out of the brainwashing center by maintaining righteous thoughts, but became homeless to avoid illegal arrest and persecution. In June 2005, Ms. Yang used a pay phone in Xiammen to call home, and was discovered and arrested. Now her whereabouts are unknown.

On June 28, 2005, Mr. Zhang Zhuanwang from Baoji Petroleum Machinery Plant was illegally arrested while handing out truth-clarification materials at a vegetable market in Weibin District. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Mr. Duan Mingbao from Gaojia Village in Baoji City was illegally sentenced to 8 years in prison by the Weibin District Court.

Practitioner Ms. Zheng Xiaoyan from Xinglongtai District of Panjin City was reported to the police and illegally arrested while clarifying the truth about Falun Gong on the streets.

On April 26, 2005, Ms. Yang Jihua from Shapingba District of Chongqing Municipality was arrested by the police from Dongjiaqiao Police Station of Shapingba District. They sent her to Maojiashan Women's Forced Labor Camp, where she was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor. Ms. Yang's family members are not allowed to visit her.

Recently, Mr. Zhu Shouqing, an employee from Xiantao City Textile Mill, was arrested and taken to Chenchang Police Station for handing out truth-clarification materials at Yaozuipian in Chenchang Township. Over the last five years Mr. Zhu Shouqing has been arrested many times. He had just been released from Shayang Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Zhan Jinghai was illegally arrested by police from Xiliuhe Township Police Station while she was handing out truth-clarification materials in the township.

On the morning of June 30, 2005, Ms. Ke Ruiling from Anbu Township, Chao'an County, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, was illegally arrested outside her home by the county police and police from Anbu Township Police Station. In May 2003, Ke Ruiling was forced to leave home to avoid being arrested and persecuted.

During the early morning hours of July 8, 2005, Ms. Li Haizhen, from the Foreign Language Institute of Northeast Normal University, was abducted by the police and sent to a brainwashing center.

Liu Yang, Yang Haifei and policemen from the Shijingshan District National Security Team in Beijing have always been on the forefront of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. They illegally searched practitioner Xu Yanli's house and confiscated her personal property on July 5. Practitioner Gong Xiurong was abducted in Bajiao District by Liu Yang and Yang Haifei in June of 2005 and unlawfully sentenced to two years of forced labor.

Falun Gong practitioners in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province exposed the torture of practitioners in Daqing Prison. The perpetrators in Daqing Prison killed three practitioners, Yu Yongquan, Wang Hongde and Xu Jishan. Several more practitioners were subjected to cruel torture. For example, guards hit Zhu Hongbing, who works in the oil factory in Daqing City; as a result his lung became infected in September. He was sent to a hospital where a tube was inserted to allow the infection to drain. He was in a coma for 24 days. Another example of abuse took place in December of 2002, when practitioner Zhang Xingye's clothes were completely torn to pieces and he suffered humiliation and physical torture as he was lifted naked by two persecutors. He was subjected to exposure to freezing winds in minus 20⁰C conditions for three days until he lost consciousness. In the fall of 2003, policemen from Daqing Prison instigated convicts to tie Guan Zhaoqi, Jin Sheng and Zhao Yuan to a cross. We appeal for the just punishment of the murderers who killed Yu Yongquan, Wang Hongde and Xu Jishan, and we affirm that the time has come to bring all the perpetrators of the persecution to justice. We call on the perpetrators to stop the persecution, release all the practitioners who are illegally incarcerated, and restore their reputation.

3. Lu Xiuying of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province Has Been Homeless for More Than Three Years

The authorities illegally arrested practitioner Ms. Lu Xiuying from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province on three different occasions because she continued to steadfastly practice Falun Gong. She was tortured at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp twice. Lu Xiuying can't return to her own home at present, in order to avoid Jiang Zemin's brutal persecution. She was compelled to become destitute and homeless, a state she has suffered for more than three years. After she began to practice Falun Gong, several of Ms. Lu's diseases were cured without medication and she no longer had a bad temper. In 1999 and 2000, after the persecution started, Ms. Lu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and suffered cruel persecution at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. In December of 2001, she was sentenced to three years in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp again because she distributed truth-clarifying materials. Her family heard nothing from her during that time. While she was there, Lu Xiuying was tortured to the point that she became ill. She escaped while the persecutors were taking her to the hospital.
