I was arrested in 2002 and locked up in the Shandong No. 2 Forced Labor Camp for three years and three months. Because I didn't give up practicing Falun Gong or stop believing in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," I was ruthlessly tortured as a "key" person. I escaped death many times, but even now, I still tremble when recalling those experiences.
The following are my statements about the brutal and inhuman tortures and persecution I suffered, so as to let people know the atrocities of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and to expose the role that the forced labor camp had played under the direction of the malevolent CCP.
More than 200 practitioners were locked up in the Wangcun
Forced Labor Camp. In order to force the practitioners to give up the
practice and to give up their belief in
"Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" the guards in the forced labor
camp, under the instruction of Jiang Zemin's regime, cruelly tortured
and persecuted practitioners who steadfastly practiced Falun Gong.
Every practitioner who was locked up in the forced labor camp must
endure the "Five Passes." These are: 1) Being deprived of sleep and
monitored by people in shifts; 2) Sitting on a narrow bench; 3) Being
hung up by their handcuffs and beaten and tortured with all kinds of
brutal methods; 4) "Swelling Air Balloon," and 5) Mental torment
(brainwashing).
Sleep Deprivation and Round-the-clock Monitoring
On arriving at the forced labor camp, the first step in breaking down practitioners was to deprive them of sleep. Every hour of every day, practitioners were forced to sit on a wooden bench two inches wide and were not allowed to close their eyes. This torture lasted at least five or six days, sometimes over ten days, or even one month. If a practitioner closed his eyes only for a moment, he was then beaten right away. The police took turns resting. After this suffering was over, one would then be allowed to sleep only for half an hour (from 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.) and then would be awakened before 5:00 a.m.
The long-term torture made one muddle-headed. One's balance
would be off while walking; the four limbs and the brain completely
lost coordination. When going to the toilet supported by two persons,
practitioners often had their head hit the wall, until they eventually
collapsed mentally and talked nonsense. Some practitioners had mental
breakdown only a few days after they
came to the forced labor camp.
Eating excrement and drinking urine happened often.
Sitting on a Narrow Bench
Sitting is also a very brutal method of persecution. For nearly 24 hours every day, one sat on a two-legged, two-inch wide "bench for severe discipline." With nails protruding through the surface and the legs of the bench loose, if one wiggled the bench even a little, the nails pierced one's buttocks. People were forced to sit on the bench, stiff and still. Two or three large men stood by watching. One's hands had to be placed on one's knees, and the lower legs had to be upright. Two hours later, one would suffer an aching back and leg numbness, and one's eyesight grew dim and everything became blurry. Sitting longer, one would suffer aches throughout the whole body. Even scratching an itch would incur a beating from the perpetrators. Except for going to the toilet, practitioners were forced to sit this way at all times.
In less than two days, the buttocks were worn raw, with a big
hole on each side. The flesh and blood mingled together, and one's
underwear and pants were stuck together. When going to the toilet,
since the pants couldn't be taken down, I soaked them with cold water
first, and then slowly peeled them off, layer by layer. After the
wounds scabbed over, it was even more agonizing to touch the bench;
however, I was still forced to sit there. No words can depict the
extreme pain. Ulcerous boils developed on my buttocks, agonizingly
painful to tolerate and impossible to describe.
Being Hung Up by Handcuffs, Beaten and Tortured
Being hung up by the handcuffs and beaten is also called, "Riding a homemade airplane." There are many variations to this type of torture.
"Helicopter:" one was handcuffed and hung up to the window frame by the handcuffs, with the back rubbing against the windowsill, and the tips of the toes touching the ground. In just a moment, one's back and legs would ache; the whole body became numb, and the wrists were intolerably painful. Some practitioners were hung up for as long as over ten hours; some were even hung up for several dozen hours. They were tortured to the extent of hovering between life and death or sobbing incessantly. The guards were afraid the sobbing would be heard by others; they then used old rags to gag practitioners and then used tape over the gags. They called up five or six ruffians to simultaneously scratch the practitioners' chest, poke their ribs, pick at the ligaments in the groin, scratch the armpits, and severely punch the thighs and arms. A normal person couldn't tolerate the excruciating, violent pain. When I suffered this torture, I gritted my teeth so severely they became loose in the gums. I still cannot chew hard food, even now.
"Jet type:" one had one hand handcuffed to the top of the bed
frame, while the other hand was affixed to the bottom of the bed. One
could only slightly twist one's body.
"Skewed type:" The hands were handcuffed to the corners of the upper and lower bunks. The hands were hung askew and the body was inclined, forming a cross shape. The back and hipbone twisted tightly. As time passed, one felt pain in the back and legs, and the whole body was numb. The body even became bow-shaped.
"Hung up by arching one's back:" They had practitioner's back rub against the bunk bed's metal rails. Then they moved the lower bunk away. They had practitioner's head drop and handcuffed his hands to the bottom of the bed legs, forcing him to bend and arch, and remain folded at the waist for a long time. There were also several other variations of this torture, such as forcing one to lie on the bed with the four limbs handcuffed to the four corners of the bed, the same as the cruel punishment of dismembering a criminal's body. Then a group of ruffians wantonly tortured the practitioner additionally. They used extremely indelicate and brutish methods like wild animals, having completely lost their humanity.
Punishment with electric batons: there were also various methods of this torture. The guards shocked some practitioners simultaneously with seven or eight electric batons, until the skin was torn and the flesh gaped open and the whole body was burned. Some were shocked on the acupuncture points, from the soles of the feet all the way to the top of the head, leaving out no points, until the person shook violently or passed out. Some were specifically shocked on the face, with the skin and flesh of the whole face burned, leaving facial scars and resulting in lifetime torment.
Thrashing with ropes or whips: The perpetrators thrashed one's whole body with a rope to the extent one shouted desperately or until at last one couldn't move and passed out. On the surface, only rope traces could be seen. There was no injury to the skin but the torture injured the person's insides. Later on, one's bones and flesh became separated. It was unbearably painful and one couldn't recover for a long period of time.
Other torture methods: The guards used all sorts of other methods to torture practitioners. They punched and kicked practitioners, punched their chests, struck their backs with a heavy hammer, hit their sensitive body parts, pounded practitioners' heads with ridged wooden sticks dozens of times, or hundreds of times, until practitioners' heads swelled to such an extent that they were as soft as steamed buns and blood streamed down the hair. Bloody tufts of hair came off, and practitioners could not stand up by themselves.
The police slapped practitioners on the
face and chopped them
on the neck with their new boots. One time, a pair of brand new boots
was used to the extent that the uppers and treads became separated. A
square stool was also one of the instruments of torture. The police
took that stool and started to wildly chop and pound practitioners on
the head and the body. One strike could make one retreat five or six
steps; with more than a hundred strikes, one had already lost
consciousness. The police also stomped on practitioners' toes with
their boots. My toes are still blackish purple to this day and I still
cannot stand properly. They also used chopsticks to injure
practitioners' fingers. When the fingers were smashed, they then
pressed the fingers on hard blocks and used the soles of their boots to
strike them until blood seeped out from the nails.
"Swelling Air Balloon"
This was an extremely cruel persecution method that killed
people in
a subtle way. The police forced practitioners to drink water but didn't
allow them to urinate. The lower abdomen was swollen like an air
balloon. It was intolerably painful, and one was made unable to stand
up or sit down. Many practitioners were forced to hold back urine for
over 30 hours. In order to force them to "reform"
they still dragged them upstairs and downstairs. It is really hard to
depict the intolerable feeling. At last the urine couldn't be excreted
and the lower abdomen hurt over a long period of time. Some
practitioners were tortured to the extent of incontinence so that their
pants and beddings were drenched with urine and couldn't be used. Male
practitioners had to use toilet paper or even a plastic bag as a mat.
Brainwashing
In order to force practitioners to give up their belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" the guards used collaborators who had given up the practice to instill practitioners day and night with the lies fabricated by the evil Party. They played recordings and videotapes to attack Falun Gong. All were full of filthy speech. In the evil environment, the police ordered the collaborators to beat practitioners. Abuses were a daily occurrence. They disabled, injured, and killed Falun Gong practitioners unscrupulously and without any fear.
What I was able to recount is only a tiny portion of a much
larger ordeal. Testimony to even more brutal persecution methods that
haven't been exposed yet is still forthcoming.

An insider from the Jinqiao Public Security Bureau in Dashi City, Liaoning Province, recently revealed how practitioner Ms. Su Jingyan died. On August 21, 2001, Ms. Su Jingyan was distributing truth clarification materials when local police arrested, tortured and interrogated her. After she was beaten to death, her body was thrown into a local pond, making it look like she had drowned by accident.
The following is a report by a righteous, kind-hearted person who was in a position to know the truth. He will testify when the right time comes.
******
I was talking to a staff member of the local police. I spoke positively about Falun Gong and said that the practitioners follow the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" and that they are very admirable. He then said, "But they lie." I asked him, "Can you tell me who lied?" He thought for a moment and said, "The woman who died, with the name of Su Jingyan." He looked at me. I'd heard about Su Jingyan's death and also read flyers telling about the suspicious circumstances of Su Jingyan's death. I myself did not believe that Ms. Su drowned. Since he mentioned Su Jingyan, I believed that he knew something that we didn't.
So I asked him "What do you mean?" He said, "She had some flyers with her. We asked her if she had distributed them. She did not admit to it. Shouldn't she have been beaten? I did it, too." He said this with an expression that showed hate. I thought he knew just a little bit, but didn't expect that he was directly involved. He essentially told me how Ms. Su died. Many people suspected that Su was beaten to death and that the perpetrators threw her body in the pond to avoid responsibility. So, what we suspected is in fact the truth.
The police had lied to the public about having caught just two practitioners and that Su Jingyan escaped and drowned in the pond. So I asked this man about the other two practitioners, Ma Suyan and Zhao Guiqin, and whether those two were arrested in the room where we held our conversation. He replied with a yes without much emotion.
Details as to how Su Jingyan was killed
Ms.Su Jingyan was a 38-year-old resident from Tielian Village, Dashiqiao City, Liaoning Province. She was a healthy and kind person, and a skilled tailor. She was one of the early practitioners and very steadfast in her practice of Falun Gong. In 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong started, she went to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained in a drug rehabilitation center, detention center and forced labor camp. In early August of 2001, she was sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. Then, the police took her and several other female practitioners to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. When they approached Shenyang City, she jumped out of the window and escaped. She had no money on her and no shoes on her feet, but she managed to go back home with help from kind-hearted people. She continued to clarify the truth to people she met.
On August 21, 2001, Ms. Su Jingyan, Ms. Ma Suyan and Ms. Zhao Guiqin went to Lishan District to distribute truth clarification materials. They started around 9 p.m., but they never made it back home. On August 23, word had it that when they were clarifying the truth, the police arrested them. Ma Suyan and Zhao Guiqin were arrested, while Su Jingyan drowned in a pond in Xiatun, Dashiqiao City. On the 24th, it was rumored that Falun Gong practitioners were distributing flyers. When the police arrived, they only got hold of two practitioners and the other one escaped and drowned. As no one knew where she was from, the police publicized the information for local authorities to come and identify the body.
The news spread around Dashiqiao City. Everybody was talking about it. When other practitioners heard about this, they sensed that there was something suspicious about the story. They started their own investigation and found many inconsistencies in the so-called death report by the police.
The pond in question is by the main road in Xiatun. It formed naturally during rain, since villagers had removed the dirt. It looked like a huge pan. One cannot possible drown in it. Even though one walked into it at night, one would realize it in time and walk back out of it. Another suspicion is that if Su Jingyan did drown, her stomach would be filled with water and her legs and arms would have been straight and stiff. Her body should look peaceful and pale. However, Su's body was in a heap and her hands and feet were claw like. Her body was purple, her arms were up over her shoulders and her abdomen was not bloated.
What is strange is that no one could view her after her body was transferred to the morgue. The police hold the key. No one except for Ms. Su's husband could see her, but her husband was afraid of the police and did not want to pursue it. Why did they have to guard the body? The real reason might be that the police did not want people to take pictures of the body to use as evidence.
The day when Ms. Su's body was cremated, the police sent four vehicles to guard the body. If she had drowned by accident, why would they have to do that? They could just hand the body over to her family. According to insiders, the police paid all cremation expenses, which is not common in accidental deaths at all.
Based on the above, many people suspect that Ms. Su Jingyan was also arrested on August 21 and that the police interrogated, tortured and beat her to death (her body looked like she had been beaten to death). The police were afraid to accept responsibility and therefore threw her into the pond. Practitioners wrote about the suspicious death of Ms. Su Jingyan and then publicized the information on the Minghui/Clearwisdom websites and locally during October of 2001.
Practitioners have not given up their investigation of Su Jingyan's death. Now the truth has come out. An insider who participated in the act and contributed to her death revealed that on August 21, 2001, police from Jinqiao police subdivision arrested her. She was asked whether she distributed the flyers in the Lishan district. Su Jingyan refused to cooperate with them. As a result, she was beaten to death and her body was thrown into the pond.
Practitioner Ms. Ma Suyan was sentenced to a 7-year prison
term. She is now being held at Shenyang Dabei prison. Ms. Zhao Shuqin
was sentenced to 8 years and is detained at Shenyang Dabei prison.

Having broken through layer after layer of Chinese Communist Party red tape, Kaixin finally arrived in Thailand in December 2004. She was a little over three years old at the time. When she met with adults, a bright smile always appeared on her small young face, followed by a warm hug. But when she was beyond the eyes of adults, I discovered that the beautiful smile on her face disappeared in a flash. After being with her for over half a year, I have almost never seen this four-year-old little girl shed tears. I had a deep feeling that she was a very strong and understanding child.
(photo of Kaixin)
One time Kaixin helped me prepare some truth-clarification materials to distribute. Her earnest appearance looked really very lovely. After a while, she left to play. I thought to myself, "After all she is only a child" and continued to prepare the materials on my own. Then she came over to watch me. Sitting quietly, she again began to prepare the materials with me.
Kaixin's mother, Luo Zhixiang, was persecuted to death in China by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) because of her persistent belief in Falun Gong. The family was from Guangzhou. She was three months pregnant when she died. Even worse, in order to escape its responsibility for the crime, the CCP government lied, stating that Luo Zhixiang had committed suicide.
Kaixin lost her mother when she was only one year old. I am unable to imagine how the little girl withstands the pain of losing her mother. I haven't seen her shed tears. I read an article published on the Minghui website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom) written by Huang Guohua, Kaixin's father, titled "My Daughter Kaixin Is Actually Very Sad." ("Kaixin" means "Happy" in Chinese - translator's note)
In the article he related: "My daughter Kaixin kept crying in her sleep every evening. I did not know why but just thought that it was some evil that was disturbing her. I sent righteous thoughts beside her, but the effect was not good. She still kept crying without let up every evening. Her crying was different. It was not the typical loud cries from a child, but a weeping sound self-sustained with effort. Moreover, she appeared to be in pain as she cried. 'Kaixin, are you thinking of Mother?' I asked. Only then did Kaixin cry out loudly, 'I do think of Mother! Others have mothers, but I don't. I think of Mother so much! I want my mommy! Daddy, I don't remember what my mother looked like!' I embraced my daughter, both of us crying together."
The number of Falun Gong practitioners who have been killed by the CCP government is over 2600. Many of these practitioners have left behind young orphans. In China, many orphans become homeless, with nobody to take care of them. During the six years that the CCP government has been suppressing Falun Gong, how many good Chinese people have been brutally persecuted just because they persist in practicing Falun Gong and do not give up their belief in "Zhen-Shan-Ren" ("Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance")?
It is a well-known fact that practitioner Ms.Gao Rongrong, because of her persistent belief in "Zhen-Shan-Ren" was continuously beaten for more than six hours by followers of the CCP with several electrical batons. As a result, her face was seriously disfigured. But even more horrible, after Gao Rongrong was rescued and exposed the facts of her persecution before the whole world, the CCP authorities unscrupulously and illegally arrested Gao Rongrong again and cruelly persecuted her to death.
Recently, four former CCP officials, now overseas, have
exposed some of the details of how the CCP has suppressed the Chinese
people and monitored each foreign nation. The cruel nature of the
dictatorship of the CCP is being exposed to the whole world. As an
eyewitness, having personally seen and experienced the persecution of
the Chinese people by the CCP, and as an average person yearning for
peace, human rights, and freedom, I humbly appeal to you. Kind-hearted
people of the whole world, with your benevolent hearts and sympathy,
please help these good Chinese people with your actions to stop this
brutal, bloody persecution in any way you can!

On the morning of June 16, 2005, practitioner Kang Yanxiang's 80-year-old mother, and several relatives went to the Office of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Committee of Hengshui City, Hebei Province. They wanted to meet with officials from the 610 Office to request the unconditional release of Kang Yanxiang and Sun Liangsheng. The guards at the entrance of the building, however, didn't allow them to enter and told them, "There is no one in the 610 Office."
For the past several years, Mr. Kang Yanxiang and Mr. Sun Liangsheng have been brutally persecuted by the Hengshui City 610 Office and other government agencies for practicing Falun Gong. Their persecution accounts have been disclosed on Clearwisdom.net.
When they were first put on trial, the court ruled that there was not enough evidence, and they should be released immediately. Instead, they were illegally detained for more than one and a half years. Recently, they were illegally sentenced to four years of imprisonment by the 610 Office. When their family members and relatives heard about this, they went to appeal to the authorities. Despite the long distance, her old age and the hot weather, Mr. Kang's 80-year-old mother also went to appeal on his behalf. The officials, however, didn't allow them to enter the government building. As a result, they had to stand outside under the scorching sun. Kang Yanxiang's mother was tired and had to sit on the ground.
When more passersby gathered in front of the government building, the practitioners' relatives started to tell people how their loved ones were persecuted by the 610 Office because they believe in Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. People expressed their sympathy and outrage. Only then did the officials of the 610 Office come out. An official even had the audacity to yell at Kang Yanxiang's mother. The passersby scolded the official saying, "How could you treat an elderly woman like that?" Some said, "Our tax dollars pay your salary, yet you send innocent people to prison without notifying their families. Now that their families are here, you don't want to see them, leaving them standing outside in the sun. This is so unfair."
Later several policemen came by, but the practitioners' relatives were not afraid. They continued to tell people the truth about the persecution of their loved ones and requested their release. A middle-aged man in civilian clothes was standing by the building entrance. From time to time, the policemen went to report to him.
At noon, the practitioners' relatives left. That same day, the Hengshui City 610 Office ordered the police to go to their home and harass them.

Mr. Chen Rusong, 68 years old, was a practitioner from Zhejiang Province. Before he practiced Falun Gong, he suffered from many illnesses, including high blood pressure, heart and eye diseases. After he began to practice Falun Gong in 1996, he soon became healthy. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, he was often harassed, monitored, tracked and threatened. Mr. Chen's home was ransacked and he was kept in a brainwashing center for two months in 2004. Not long after he returned home, he became blind. Chen Rusong also suffered mentally. He died within a short period after returning home.
Ms. Ma Yuhuan, 40 years old, was a technician from the Liaoyuan City Coal Mine Machine Factory in Jilin Province. In April 2003, she studied Falun Gong and practiced the exercises with 17 fellow practitioners from the same factory. Police from the Xian Public Security arrested them. The practitioners were tortured during the interrogation, but they all remained steadfast. All were later sent to the Changchun Prison. In September 2003, Ma Yuhuan became critically ill because of the persecution. She was granted medical leave and her family took her to a hospital for emergency treatment. They spent 15,000 yuan in medical expenses, but could not save her life. The originally healthy technician who was loved by factory co-workers left this world forever. Ma Yuhuan's family feared harassment by the authorities, thus they dare not tell the truth about her death.
Ms. Feng Lanzhu, around 50 years old, was a practitioner from Enping City, Guangdong Province. She worked in a private sector company. Before she practiced Falun Gong, she suffered from severe asthma attacks, high blood pressure and other illnesses. She fully recovered after she became a practitioner in 1998. Ms. Feng went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000 and was persecuted by the 610 Office. Officers from the Public Security Bureau, local police station and residents' committee often harassed Ms. Feng, disturbed her peace, confiscated her truth clarifying materials and monitored her. Ms. Feng was arrested and taken to the local brainwashing center three times. During all that time she suffered severely under the persecution and she and her family were harassed continuously. Her mind and body suffered great harm and she became emaciated. In September 2004, Ms. Feng quit her job due to illness. However, the agents from the 610 Office continued to harass her at home during November. Because of the severe persecution, Feng Lanzhu died on July 1, 2005.
Ms. Wang Yanling, from Pingdingbo Town, Tieling City, Liaoning Province, has been a practitioner since 1998. On July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Police from Tianjin arrested her. She went to Beijing again on October 12, 1999 and was arrested on the 26th. After she was released in January of 2000, Ms. Wang was again arrested by police from the Pingdingbo Town local police station in January 2001, detained at Tieling County detention center and sentenced to two years of forced labor. In January 2002, she was sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Because of her illnesses, they refused to accept Ms. Wang, and she was released on bail for medical treatment. Policeman Lu Hongbiao from the Pingdingbo Group, Wang Zhifan and others from the local police station frequently harassed Wang Yanling. She became very frightened and died from the persecution in October of 2003.
Ms. Yin Baorong, 60 years old, was a resident from Jianghe Town, Fusong County, Jilin Province. Since she began to practice Falun Gong in March 1999, her benign tumors gradually became smaller. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, she went to Changchun to appeal. The evildoers often harassed her, prevented her from practicing Falun Gong, and confiscated her books and Falun Gong materials. Ms. Yin's previous illnesses reappeared. She spent a lot of money on treatments, but was not cured. Yin Baorong passed away on April 2, 2004.
Mr. Li Shilong, 73 years old, from Datong City, Shanxi Province, began to practice Falun Gong in 1996 and benefited both physically and mentally. After the evil party started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, the police harassed him because he did not renounce the practice. Li Shilong died in May of 2005.
Mr. Li Guochang was a practitioner from Liqingu Village, Dingzhou City, Hebei Province. In the winter of 2000, he went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to tell the truth of Falun Gong to the government, but was detained and persecuted.
