  • Li Ling Died of Persecution Shortly After The United Nation's "Team for Investigating the Issue of Arbitrary Detention" Left China

Mrs. Li Ling, 51 years old, was a former Chief of the Labor Bureau from Guta District, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. She practiced Falun Gong and followed the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Mrs. Li recovered from all sorts of ailments and was acknowledged by all as a good person. After the Chinese party started to persecute Falun Gong, she peacefully appealed on behalf of Falun Gong but was unjustly sentenced to one and a half years at Shenyang Dabei Prison, Liaoning Province. The prison guards forcibly administered medications to Mrs. Li, which destroyed her central nerve system. Li Ling lost a significant amount of weight during the persecution, and went from 65 to 45 kilograms [143 pounds to 99 pounds]. She was released on April 26, 2001. On May 28, 2002, Mrs. Li was arrested again at her home by the Political Legal Committee in the Guta District and was again unjustly sentenced to four years in the Shenyang Dabei in Liaoning Province. Li Ling was persecuted to death on November 17, 2004.

    Mrs. Li Ling

Shortly before she was persecuted to death, from September 18th to the 30th, 2004, the United Nation's "Team for Investigating the Issue of Arbitrary Detention " came to China for an on-site inspection. They asked the Chinese government to provide the legal situation and health condition of several people who were in detention at the time; Li Ling's name was also on the list.

The United Nation Investigation Team raised several questions regarding the Chinese government's handling of Li Ling's case. At the time, Li Ling was suffering brutal torture and persecution, and the Chinese government not only lied about Li Ling's condition, but also refused to arrange an interview between Lin Ling and the United Nation Investigation Team. In order to cover up the brutal abuse, on September 22, 2004, the local government let her son visit her in prison. By the time her husband visited her on October 26, Li Ling was extremely weak, and her long black hair and had all turned white.

After the United Nation Investigation Team left, the government resumed their persecution. On November 17, 2004, on behalf of the Women's Prison, the Political Legal Committee notified Li Ling's family of her death and asked them to take care of the affairs after her death. The family made it clear to the police that they knew that Li Ling had never committed any crime and that she had been persecuted to death. The authorities did not reply or pay any attention to their appeal.

The United Nations Investigation Team paid close attention to Li Ling's case

After five months of investigation, the United Nations "Team for Investigating the Issue of Arbitrary Detention" published its verdict regarding Falun Gong practitioners Li Ling and Pei Jilin who were unjustly arrested and persecuted. They also brought up the report to the 60th Session of the Commission on Human Rights in March 2004.

The United Nation's conclusion regarding Li Ling's case:

"Falun Gong is a type of free exercise and meditation that should be protected by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is a violation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights articles 10, 11, 18 and 19 to deprive Li Ling and Pei Jilin's freedom. These cases belong to the No. II type of cases. The Investigation Team asked the Chinese government to change their verdict regarding Li Ling and Pei Jilin's cases and obey the basic principles and rules of the International Human Rights Joint Pledge."

"The Investigation Team also noticed that the Chinese government did not deny that Li Ling and Pei Jilin's detention had something to do with Falun Gong. From those on-going cases, they did not find any cases indicating that Falun Gong would cause violence."

"It is a violation of International Law to impose restrictions of this type on peaceful meditation and exercise. From these cases, the government's allegations about Li Ling attending illegal protests and Pei Jilin disturbing social order did not mention violence. The conclusion from the Investigation Team was: They were arrested because they used peaceful means to exercise their rights which are protected by Universal Declaration of Human Rights regarding freedom of religion and speech to protect Falun Gong."

"In order to disprove the allegations brought on by the Investigation Team and to avoid criticism from international public opinion, the Chinese government started a new round of slander towards Falun Gong. The government claimed that Li Ling had a fair trial, but actually it was just a show. The lawyer that the government appointed not only did nothing to defend her, but also threatened her. After the first detention, she wrote an appeal clearly indicating that the reason of her arrest and detention was because she appealed for Falun Gong. The second verdict was secretly carried out between May and November of 2002. Nobody notified her family."

The Chinese government lied about Li Ling's case

The Chinese government replied to the United Nation regarding this case with false information: "Li Ling was arrested on October 27, 1999 because of an illegal protest with a number of people and was sentenced for one and a half years. After her release, she was arrested again because of disturbing social order and sentenced to four years. Both trials were public, her rights to a fair trial were guaranteed and the government offered her a defense lawyer." In the meantime, the prison sealed off all information about Li Ling.

The truth is that the Chinese government never stopped persecuting Li Ling; she suffered all sorts of torture and brutality. All the procedures during the trial violated her basic human rights.

On May 28, 2002 at around 8 p.m., Li Ling was arrested from her home and taken to the No.1 Detention Center. She was forcibly held there for over six months. Nobody from the local Public Security, the Procurator Bureau or the Court notified Li Ling or her family of the reason for her arrest, where she was held or what kind of crime she had committed. She stood for trial twice secretly without her family present (under Chinese Law, families should be notified). The court unjustly sentenced her to four years in the Women's Prison in Liaoning Province.

While in prison, the prison guards encouraged other inmates to mentally torture Mrs. Li in order to force her to give up her belief. She was forced into hard labor for long hours daily, worsening her hypertension and heart disease. Mrs. Li was sent to the prison hospital in January 2004. On February 16 when her family visited her, she could no longer eat normally. One guard and four inmates harassed her and force-fed her daily. On February 25, when her husband visited her in hospital, Li Ling was dying, in a state of delirium, worn to a shadow and her black hair had all turned white. Her family requested her release so as to seek outside medical attention. The prison authority refused and stated that she was not sick. When the family asked "If she is not sick why is she in the prison hospital?" the authorities refused to answer. They also refused to give the medical certificate to her family.

The Chinese government did not follow the United Nation's verdict. Instead, they intensified the persecution of Li Ling and stopped a family's visiting rights.

Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Cao Jinxian of Shanghai City Died Due to the Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cao Jinxian remained firm in her cultivation of Falun Gong. Because of this, she was persecuted by the Shanghai City police. They sentenced her to a forced labor camp without any legal process, where she was tortured. After being granted medical parole, Ms. Cao was forced to become homeless in early 2005 to avoid being persecuted further. Cao Jinxian died on June 18, 2005.

Ms. Cao Jinxian was 48 years old. She was a farmer on the Wang Team at Cailu Village, Cailu Town, Pudong District, Shanghai City. After she began practicing Falun Gong in 1997, she recovered from breast cancer and regained her health. Since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, the Shanghai City 610 Office and its associated offices persecuted Cao Jinxian many times. The tortures severely affected her mental and physical health.

Some days after New Year's Day 2000, over twenty practitioners shared their experiences in Ms. Cao's home. The village official reported the gathering to the authorities at the Pudong District Police Precinct. They arrested and detained Ms. Cao for 30 days, without any legal process, charging her with "providing a place (for practitioners)."

In 2002, Ms. Cao and four other practitioners went to the Township government to clarify the truth to the officials on duty. The police detained her for two months, and two of the four practitioners were sentenced to two years of forced labor.

In 2003, Ms. Cao brought together five new practitioners to learn and practice Falun Gong. A practitioner's family member reported this to the police, who sentenced Ms. Cao to two years of forced labor. Because of the torture at the forced labor camp, Ms. Cao suffered a relapse of her former illness (breast cancer). The doctors at the forced labor camp, who diagnosed her, predicted that she would only live for another few months. After her release, Ms. Cao persisted in studying the Fa and practicing the exercises, despite being closely monitored by the police. She gradually regained her health.

On January 11, 2005, Ms. Cao went to a shop to photocopy some truth-clarification materials. The owner of the shop reported her to the police. Over ten police officers from Cailu Town Police Station ransacked her home without any legal process and warrant. They confiscated two audio cassette players and some truth-clarifying materials. Ms. Cao was forced to become homeless and move from place to place during the cold winter season. Later, the police arrested her and brought her back home, where they monitored her closely. Ms. Cao Jinxian's health deteriorated from that time onwards. She passed away on June 18, 2005.

Hebei Province: Huanghua City Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Wang Houge Died after Long-term Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Houge was a villager from Xiabao Village, Luqiao Town, in Huanghua City, Hebei Province. Because of his steadfast belief in Falun Gong, Mr. Wang was sent to the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp where he suffered from all kinds of cruel tortures. Once, he was tortured with the method called "tying the ropes" three times in the same day. In May 2002, the police released Mr. Wang to his family. He was by this time extremely skinny and frail. Despite the huge pressure of the persecution and of caring for her husband, Mr. Wang's wife had to work extra hard to sustain a livelihood for her husband and family. The police in Huanghua City and Luqiao Town did not stop their constant harassment and intimidation of Mr. Wang and his family. After long-term persecution, Wang Houge died in May 2005. He was 42 years old.

In 1998 Wang Houge began to practice Falun Gong. He experienced tremendous benefits to his physical and mental health, and his family life became harmonious and filled with happiness. After the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Mr. Wang went to Beijing to explain to the government the truth about Falun Gong, but he was arrested by the Beijing police. The head of the 610 Office from his hometown picked him up in Beijing and sent him back home for persecution.

In October 2000, along with several other practitioners, Wang Houge and his wife Yang Fangzhen, went to Beijing to clarify the truth. Undercover police officers arrested them near Tiananmen Square and later sent them back to a local detention center. During his detention, the police attempted to force Wang Houge to give up Falun Gong. The police also encouraged criminal inmates to beat him. Mr. Wang suffered tremendous torture and humiliation.

After more than 50 days of detention, Wang Houge was sentenced to three years of forced labor and sent to the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. In order to force Mr. Wang to give up Falun Gong, the police in the camp used many torture methods on him. For example, they used "tying the ropes," where multiple people are employed to tie up the victim, then they tighten the ropes by winding them around the body to increase the pain. The tightened ropes may even cut into the flesh, cause breathing difficulty, nausea, and/or vomiting. The pain is almost unbearable. After a long time under such agony, the arms become numb. Wang Houge was tied up three times in one day. He was also ordered to sit on a small ceramic tile patch without making any movement. If he moved, the police would kick and beat him. Mr. Wang also suffered from extended sleep deprivation for many days, making him feel faint and extremely drowsy.

The officials in the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp used many other torture methods. Once, a drunken police officer called Mr. Wang out of his cell at midnight. The officer started to beat him on the head with a leather shoe until Mr. Wang was cut and bleeding. He did not stop beating Mr. Wang even after he was injured and bleeding. This horrific brutality is just the tip of the iceberg of what Mr. Wang had to endure.

Also in 2000, Wang Houge's wife, Yang Fangzhen, and several other practitioners were illegally detained for 15 days by police from Wang Houge's hometown. After being forced to pay 5,000 yuan each, they were released, but after they returned home they were deceived and taken into custody again. The local 610 Office officials enticed them into a brainwashing class and detained them for over 40 days there. Each of the practitioners had to pay another 3,000-yuan fine before being released.

In March 2001, Tianjin City police followed Yang Fangzhen when she was clarifying the facts about Falun Gong to people. She escaped arrest but was forced to go into hiding. The family was thus broken apart by the evil persecution. Their school-aged child was left at home alone with only the grandpa.

In May 2002, after more than a year in a labor camp Wang Houge was secretly sent home. Long-term torture had reduced Mr. Wang to a very weak condition. Two weeks before, his health had suddenly declined and he lost his ability to perform normal functions. He needed help eating and going to the toilet. The abusive conditions brought on numerous health conditions. The labor camp doctor diagnosed Mr. Wang with hypertension and heart disease. They had to use oxygen to keep him breathing on his way home. Even at that, the police team chief who was escorting him was constantly calling his name to make sure he was still alive. Even the labor camp director was calling the police car frequently to check, fearing that they might be held responsible and have their crimes exposed if Mr. Wang died on the way home. After they returned Wang Houge to his family, the police quickly left.

His family members immediately sent Wang Houge to the hospital. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He had lost three quarters of his lungs and also had other diseases. The doctors said that he only had a few months to live.

Hearing that her husband was home, Yang Fangzhen went home, risking arrest again.

With both of them home, the 610 Office from Huanghua City and Luqiao Town never stopped their harassment and intimidation of the family. They sent spies to monitor them. Dealing with this ongoing terror, Wang Houge was not able to have an environment for recovery. After the illegal fines and extortion by the police, the family was deeply in debt. Yang Fangzhen had to find work to support the whole family.

In September 2003, Yang Fangzhen was again abducted by the town 610 Office and taken to a brainwashing class in Cangzhou City. This was a heavy blow to her husband. Wang Houge's health and mental condition continued to decline.

Under the violent mistreatment and the constant harassment, Mr. Wang's health deteriorated, until he finally died in despair, in May 2005. He was 42 years old.

Mrs. Tan Yajiao Suffers a Miscarriage Due to Severe Torture by Police and Prisoners in Benxi City, Liaoning Province

Practitioners Mr. Liang Tielong and Mrs. Tan Yajiao, a husband and wife, are from Benxi City in Liaoning Province. They were both arrested and tortured last year. Mrs. Tan Yajiao suffered a miscarriage due to the torture. The couple both received illegal and extended prison sentences. On April 20, 2005, Liang Tielong's father received a phone call from Dabei Prison. The police requested him to visit his son in the prison. However, the father was not allowed to meet his son when he arrived there. Instead, the police extorted 10 yuan from him for telephone fees. Liang Tielong's mother was so angry and sad that she had a stroke. She remains in serious condition today.q1q

The couple: Liang Tielong and Tan Yajiao

On September 18, 2004, the 610 Office of Benxi City, with the involvement of the city police, arrested more than 50 practitioners. Among them were Liang Tielong and Tan Yajiao, who were arrested from home by the police from Dongming Police Station. Their computer, printer, and some cash were also stolen by the police.

Mrs. Tan Yajiao, who was pregnant, was tortured on the same night that she was arrested. Four or five young and strong police officers battered and shocked her with electronic batons until she lost consciousness and fell to the floor. Later, Mrs. Tan was sent to Bailou Detention Center in Benxi City, where she suffered further torture. She went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Policewoman Zhang Jinjuan bound Tan Yajiao with handcuffs and shackles so she could not move any part of her body and ordered several prisoners to hit her. Days of continuous inhumane torture caused Tan Yajiao to miscarry. She also suffered damage to her mental and physical health. She suffered from menstrual disorders, aches around her lower back and stomach, and numbness in her arms and legs.

The 610 Office of Benxi City treated Liang Tielong and Tan Yajiao's cases in the category of "serious." After 4 months of illegal detention, the Pingshan District Court sentenced Mrs. Tan Yajiao to 9 years of imprisonment and Mr. Liang Tielong to 12 years of imprisonment. The couple is imprisoned at the Dabei Prison, in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.

On April 20, 2005, a police officer from Dabei Prison called Liang Tielong's family, saying that they could come see him. Mr. Liang Xiangyun, Liang Tielong's father, traveled to the prison on April 25. However, Liang Xiangyun was not allowed to see his son. Shocked by the sudden change of events, Liang Xiangyun wondered if the prison police were trying to cover up the evidence of torture. A police officer asked Liang Xiangyun for 10 yuan for telephone fees. The old man asked with surprise what telephone fee it was. The policeman said it was for the phone call made to the family saying they could meet Liang Tielong. Liang Xiangyun argued that a call less than a minute could not cost 10 yuan. [Translator's note: a phone call within 3 minutes usually costs .30 yuan on public pay phone in most cities in China]. The police insisted unreasonably that this was the price. Because his son and daughter-in-law were both imprisoned there and he wanted to see them, Liang Xiangyun gave the policeman the money, but was still not allowed to see his son or daughter-in-law.

Almost 70 years old, Liang Xiangyun's health was not very good because of previous work-related injuries. He came back home after more than 10 hours of sitting on the bus, and told his wife, Mrs. Zhao Airong, about the filthy tricks of the police. Upon hearing of the inhumane behavior of the police, Zhao Airong was so outraged that she had a stroke and was sent to the hospital. She was hospitalized again on May 3 and underwent brain surgery. She is still in serious condition. The Liang family has incurred a 20,000-yuan debt in order to pay the hospital fees. They have tried to appeal to the Political and Legal Commissions Office of the City Council, the local People's Congress, the local police stations, and so on, but have been rejected by all of these agencies.

The following is Mrs. Tan Yajiao's description of how she was tortured, causing her miscarriage:

On September 18, 2004, I was arrested and sent to Dongming Police Station. I was beaten and shocked with electric batons by several police officers. After transferring me to the detention center, the police there battered me even more severely. I went on a hunger strike to protest the torture and they beat me even harder because of it. On September 23, I was sent to the No.1 Hospital of Xihu District, where I was force-fed through my nose. Later, I was taken back to the detention center and my whole body was stretched and bound on a board with handcuffs and shackles. Before another forced-feeding, on the afternoon of September 25, I took out the force-feeding tube from my stomach because of the unbearable pain. The prisoners in the cell jumped on me and tied my hands behind my back with a wet towel. They pressed me on the bed and hit me; my body was trembling terribly. Policewomen Zhang Jinjuan asked me if I would eat, while I almost fainted and was unable to speak, I could only shake my head (indicating "No!") with great difficulty. Then, Zhang Jinjuan said to the head of the prisoners, Wang, "She's yours now." Upon Zhang Jinjuan's leaving, Wang said to the others, "Close the window and the door, so that others won't hear her screaming."

They continued beating me for while until I had to go to the toilet. Because I was shackled and could not get to the toilet, I used a basin. Two blood clots came out of my body, one was sticky, and the other had a red circle and a piece of white stuff in the middle as big as a fingernail. The two blood clots were about .7 to .8 centimeters wide. A prisoner asked if it was menstrual blood. I said, "It's not. It's a miscarriage." Wang told someone to flush it into the toilet quickly. That evening Zhang Jinjuan was on duty, and Wang whispered to her, "She just had a miscarriage." Zhang said, "Really?" Wang answered, "Yes. Several people saw it."

More than a month later, I reported that I suffered a miscarriage due to torture at the detention center to the head of the police station, Guoxin Liu. He was indifferent to my suffering. The detention center staff did not provide me with any necessary treatment after the miscarriage and only gave me cold water. I still have not had the post-miscarriage operation. The prisoners present at the time were Che Chunyan, Zu Lihong, Shiyang Wang, Liu Xiaomin, Sun Fengming, Feng Wei and Ren Yulan. They are all still at Dabei Prison in Shenyang City. Reng Bin, who carried the basin and flushed the contents down the toilet, has been released now. So is another witness and prisoner, Liu Shujing.

Disabled Practitioner Ms. Yang Suhong Tortured to the Verge of Death in the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Yunnan Province

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Suhong, 23 years old, 120 centimeters tall [less than 4 feet] and 23 kilograms in weight [a little over 50 pounds], is a disabled person living in the Jishan neighborhood of Majie Community, Xishan District, Kunming City. On November 30, 2004, policemen from the National Security Section took her to the Dabanqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp in Yunnan Province. She was brutally abused there until she was on the brink of death in May 2005.

According to a medical examination conducted at Yunnan University Hospital, Yang Suhong had developed symptoms of several diseases including a chronic inflammation of the gallbladder, kidney sag, peritonitis, inflammation of the pelvis, adnexitis, and gastroenteritis. She has become extremely emaciated.

To avoid responsibility, the people in charge recently sent Yang Suhong home. Her family is in financial difficulty and cannot afford medical treatment. Ms. Yang's mother has gone to the National Security Section several times to ask for help and for an explanation of what happened to her daughter, but they refuse to pay attention to her. She is forced to look after her daughter every day around the clock and cannot leave the house to go to her job. Their income is no longer guaranteed, and the family's financial situation has become precarious.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement officials from the National Security Section are closely following the dictates of Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party and continue to carry out persecution against Ms. Yang.

Five Practitioners in Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, and Shaanxi Provinces Pass Away as a Result of Persecution

Ms. Wang Yanling, a 72-year-old practitioner from Beijing, got rid of all of the illnesses that had bothered her for over 40 years after she learned Falun Gong. Every day, she happily told people how Falun Gong had saved her, telling them that this was the reason she was in such good shape. After July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong began, the local neighborhood association and the police station repeatedly went to Ms. Wang's house to harass her and threaten her. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and materials, and forced her to go to a brainwashing class, which was quite a distance from her home. She was required to attend four times a day. At noon on November 24, 2004, the neighborhood association went to her house again to harass her. Ms. Wang died that afternoon after the visit.

Ms. Zhai Fengru was a practitioner in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. She lived at the south court of Dongyuan Local District on Zhaiying Street and was the organizer of a Falun Gong practice site for the local district. She was going through a rather severe tribulation around July 20, 1999. The police went to her house to harass her repeatedly, making her condition worse and worse. Ms. Zhai died in November that year, after enduring tremendous physical and mental hardship.

Ms. Liang Cuiai was a 70-year-old practitioner at the Wohu Mountain Park in Dunhuafang Area in Xinghualing District, Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province. The police arrested her once and ransacked her house. Ms. Liang was diagnosed with leukemia and died in mid-April, 2005.

Ms. Li Guangsu was a 67-year-old practitioner in Xinxiang City, Henan Province. She learned Falun Gong in 1997, and was sent to the brainwashing class when the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999. The police went to Ms. Li's house frequently to harass her. They ransacked her house four times, breaking into her home at midnight twice. She was illegally detained on repeated occasions. The harassment caused her former illnesses to reappear and she became very ill. Then the police abducted her youngest daughter and illegally put her in a forced labor camp for a two-year term. Ms. Li Guangsu died on March 12; just one month after her daughter was taken away.

Ms. Li Kaiming, 81, lived in Huangbashan Village, Bamiao Town, Zhenba County in Shaanxi Province. She learned Falun Gong in the spring of 1999. Under the persecution, the police abducted her son, also a practitioner. The incident greatly traumatized Ms. Li Kaiming and she died in a state of distress in October 2001.

Recent Wave of Arrests in Weifang City, Shandong Province

The publication of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and the wave of withdrawals from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) brought an unprecedented crisis to the CCP which has manifested as a fanatical, last ditch, all-out push to maintain power.

Weifang City is an area where the persecution is most severe. Since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, more than thirty practitioners there have been tortured to death. Many practitioners were arrested, detained, and sent to prisons, labor camps and brainwashing classes, and were savagely tortured. In March 2005, another around of arrests began. The perpetrators in Weifang City are the most fervent followers of the CCP in this persecution. According to an incomplete estimate, more than eighty practitioners were arrested between March and May of 2005. Twenty-one practitioners were arrested from Anqiu City, sixteen practitioners from Changyi, twelve practitioners from Qingzhou, ten practitioners from the Weicheng District, nine practitioners from Zhucheng, and a dozen practitioners each were arrested in Shouguang, Kuiwen, Gaomi and other counties and cities.

Looking at the situation in Weifang City, several characteristics regarding this large-scale wave of arrests are notable:

First, the arrests are pre-conceived and carried out in secret.

In March 2005, the provincial government held a meeting addressing the topic, "Intensify the monitoring and suppression regarding the new objective for Falun Gong." The CCP demanded a new investigation of practitioners, including the number of practitioner and their personal information.

All practitioners' names are put on a blacklist. Some street committees built "resident files" and told all the residents in the area to register. Monitoring systems were installed on Jiankang Street, Beigong Street and other thoroughfares.

The shopping district and Hi-Tech Commodity Supermarket set up security checkpoints to inspect people's bags for Falun Gong materials.

Some counties and cities require registration and inspection prior to renting a room and using a public computer.

The police, National Security Bureau officials, traffic police and city patrols randomly search cars, including their trunks, for Falun Gong materials.

The 610 Office sent collaborators to contact the practitioners and demand contact information about other practitioners.

Work units and street committees hired unemployed people to "visit" practitioners. One time a practitioner was approached by a stranger who asked him, "Are you still practicing Falun Gong? Do you know anyone else who does? Can you introduce me to them?" This practitioner immediately knew that this person was a hired agent and refused to give information to her.

In early April 2005, President of China, Hu Jintao and Vice President Zeng Qinghong went to Weifang City and Shouguang, and conducted secret tours. They gave orders pertaining to the current wave of withdrawals from the CCP, the Nine Commentaries, and the CCP's general effort to maintain control.

In May, the Shandong Province 610 Office held county, city and district meetings in Changle County, and secretly planned to arrest Falun Gong practitioners regarding the distribution of the Nine Commentaries. In the following 20 days, more than 30 practitioners were arrested in Shouguang, Changyi, Qingzhou and Zhucheng, as well as in other places. Eleven practitioners were arrested in Zhangling Town, Changyi City on May 19 alone.

These arrests were intentionally carried out in the countryside. The cities were avoided. Aside from three practitioners who were reported and arrested in an urban area when clarifying the truth or hanging banners, the majority of the arrested practitioners lived in the countryside. In the past, such arrests were highly publicized in order to intimidate other practitioners and the public. Now, the arrests are carried out secretly and are hidden from scrutiny. In April 2004 and October 2004, Luo Gan, director of the 610 Office, went to Weifang City, and more than ten practitioners were arrested. Most of them were the main coordinators of Falun Gong materials production sites. Because these practitioners in the city cooperated with each other and continually exposed the authorities' crimes, they were suppressed. The recent visit by Hu Jintao and Zeng Qinghong was followed by a change in tactics that is even more insidious.

The process of arrest is completely devoid of basic civility and restraint according to law. More than seventy practitioners who were arrested were doing chores around the house at the time of their arrests. Several other practitioners were working in the fields or in factories. The authorities broke into the practitioners' homes and rummaged through everything without showing any identification or warrants.

On March 15-16, twenty-one practitioners were arrested in Anqiu City. Of those, fourteen practitioners were sentenced to forced labor camps and two were sentenced to prison.

Practitioners Wang Jinyi and Sun Zhiye were released in 2000 and 2003, respectively, from labor camps. They have been arrested and sentenced to another three years of forced labor. Practitioner Su Xiaoyou and his wife Zhou Shufang, who is in her 60s, were arrested at home. The four officers included Cheng Shuping and Liu Jinlai. The practitioners are still being held at a detention center. Su Xiaoyou and his wife were arrested many times and detained, sent to brainwashing classes and brutally tortured. This happened because they went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong along with their three daughters, who are also Falun Gong practitioners, in October 1999. In October 2000, they were illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor and their land was confiscated. Their oldest daughter, Su Baolan, was tortured to death in October 2001, and their second daughter, Su Baoyun, was sentenced to three years of forced labor in October 2000 and released in 2003. She was recently arrested again and her home ransacked. Their youngest daughter, Su Baoli, was arrested and detained many times and was compelled to leave home to avoid further persecution. She had over 30,000 yuan extorted from her while incarcerated at the Anqiu Detention Center in October 2002. Ms. Su was arrested again at home on March 15, 2003 and sent to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp to be held for three years. Su Xiaoyou's entire family is being persecuted for their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. In summary, four members of the family are held at labor camps and one member was tortured to death. Right now, three members are still in detention.

The corrupt authorities also robbed practitioners of their personal computers, TVs, cash and other valuables when ransacking their homes. When they ransacked the home of practitioner Wang Erde, a practitioner in his 70s living in Shidui Township, they took 1,000 yuan in cash, his salary card, two radios and Falun Gong materials.

Ten officers including Xu Wende, the head of the Qingzhou City 610 Office and group head Zuo Hengfa used pry bars to open the door of the home of practitioner Xu Baohua and his wife Wang Shumin. As they arrested the practitioners, they also took a TV, a VCD player, two radios, one computer, 30,000 yuan in cash, and Falun Gong materials.

Officers Zhou Zhong, Mao Yulong and others from Chengguan Town, Zhucheng City arrested practitioner Song Zhengyun at her home and sent her to a brainwashing class. They wrote a 5,000 yuan "fine" slip and went to Song Zhengyun's brother saying, "Give us 5,000 yuan and you can bail out your sister, otherwise we'll send her to a labor camp." Her brother pooled the 5,000 yuan from among the siblings and gave it to the officers.

Police officers from the Development District in Weifang City arrested practitioners from Jinma Village and extorted money from the [non-practitioner] villagers to incite hatred against the practitioners. On May 19, practitioner Liu Shulian from Zhangling Town, Changyi City was beaten and arrested at home by group leader Chen Xiaodong and other officials who broke the practitioner's leg(s) during savage beatings.

The above cases reveal the CCP's frenzied efforts in the persecution of Falun Gong. Presently, the persecution continues. A short while back, authorities from the Changle County 610 Office announced blatantly, "Fifty practitioners will be arrested in Wutu Town." When faced with such cruel persecution, we practitioners should increase our efforts to expose the persecution in our local areas, send forth righteous thoughts on a more frequent basis to eliminate the evil elements in other dimensions, and rescue fellow practitioners. We urgently call on the international community and kind-hearted people everywhere to pay attention to and stop these perpetrators from brutalizing law-abiding citizens.

It is a heavenly law that good will be rewarded and evildoing will reap its own punishment. The following are examples of perpetrators who have experienced retribution for their roles in the persecution:

Wang Lifu, former deputy secretary of the Weifang City Party Committee died from lung cancer in the spring of 2002.

Zhu Jinde, of the former Weifang City Liaison Office in Beijing, was promoted for his ruthlessness and changing the methods of persecution. He died from cancer in September 2000.

Wang Limin, deputy secretary of the Changle County Politics and Law Committee, and the main person in charge of persecuting Falun Gong in the county, died from cancer in 2001.

Dong Jianhua, the former deputy head of the Fangzi District Police Department in Weifang City, was in charge of persecuting Falun Gong. In September 2001, Dong Jianhua and his wife were riding in a car on a highway when their car suddenly crashed into a fuel truck and exploded. He and his wife died on the spot and were burnt beyond recognition.

Editors' Note: Each time we publish news of this nature, we do so with heavy hearts. These people started off as public servants, but under the intense pressure applied by Jiang Zemin and the CCP, they were pushed into persecuting Falun Gong disciples. In the process of destroying the lives of kind, law-abiding citizens, they have sealed their own fates and inevitably faced karmic retribution as punishment. If it weren't for Jiang's wicked orders, perhaps their fates would have been different.

The Brutal Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in the Jiangxi Provincial Women's Labor Camp

Since July 20, 1999, the beginning of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners, the Women's Forced Labor Camp in Jiangxi Province has followed Jiang Zemin's orders to "ruin their reputation, bankrupt them financially, and destroy them physically." The labor camp has carried out cruel persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in the name of achieving "unity, reeducation, safety, and influence."

All of the Falun Gong practitioners illegally detained at the Women's Forced Labor Camp have experienced various degrees of brutal persecution. The detainees range in age from 20 to 70, but regardless of age, all of them are forced to work from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; some of them have to work until midnight to meet the daily production quotas. Many of the practitioners have developed heart disease and high blood pressure due to the relentless persecution.

The following are accounts of the cruel persecution inflicted upon Falun Gong practitioners, which I have personally witnessed.

Wang Shuying, in her forties, was an employee of Nanchang Airplane Manufacturing Company. She was illegally sent to a forced labor camp just after hysterectomy surgery. In the labor camp, Ms. Wang developed several illnesses including heart problems, indigestion, and insomnia. The authorities are still detaining her in spite of her poor health.

Fu Jinfeng, in her thirties, worked at the blood donation station in Nanchang City. Ms. Fu has been detained in a small, windowless cell, where she has not been allowed to take a shower for an entire week, even when the temperatures are around 40o C [104 oF]. Eating, drinking, and defecation all take place in this small space.

A Falun Gong practitioner named Xian Nu was beaten until her head was bleeding and she suffered a mental collapse. She now wears a thick jacket even in the summer. However, even under these conditions, Ms. Xian is still illegally detained.

Liu Yubin, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jian City, in her sixties, was diagnosed with tuberculosis and severe cough during the physical examination prior to entering the forced labor camp. Due to the excessive workload and inhuman treatment in the labor camp, Ms. Liu became emaciated and very ill.

Long Hongying, from Wanzai County, in her fifties, was severely beaten by the police because she clarified the truth about Falun Gong. A wound on her leg is still visible. Her mother could not withstand the sudden misfortunes brought about by the persecution, and passed away. The police did not even allow Ms. Long to see her mother for the last time, causing Long Hongying great mental and physical distress.

Yuan Xianyun, from Xinjian County, in her fifties, was illegally sent to forced labor because of distributing truth-clarification materials. She was cruelly tortured until she vomited blood and had vaginal bleeding. In addition, she suffered bladder incontinence, and pain and numbness in the left side of the body. Ms. Yuan can no longer take care of herself.

Another practitioner who works for the Nanchang Airplane Manufacturing Company, Shu Juan, sustained a severe beating in which several of her front teeth were knocked out, simply because she did not comply with the guards' unreasonable orders. The guards also instigated common prisoners to severely beat Ge Manzhen, another practitioner from Xinjian County.

These cases offer a glimpse of the Chinese Communist Party's evil nature and the savage persecution of innocent Falun Gong practitioners.

flyer agreeably. What we do is most righteous. We do it sincerely and for other's benefit. This is a manifestation of our compassion.
