At 3 p.m. on April 21, 2005, Men Guangjun, the head of the Hongqi Town Police Station in Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province led a group of police officers to break into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wen Cunfu. Mr. Wen was a former principal of the Gaungsheng Village Elementary School in Lanqi Town. The officers, without a word and without showing any identification, ransacked Mr. Wen's house, including the chimney on the rooftop. The officers didn't find any evidence to use against him, but they handcuffed Mr. Wen's practitioner son, Mr. Wen Jingsong, and took him to the Hongqi Town Police Station.
The next morning, Mr. Wen took his three-year-old granddaughter, his wife, second daughter and daughter-in-law to the Hongqi Town Police Station to ask the police to release his son. Mr. Wen asked Men Guangjun, "My son didn't violate a single law, why did you arrest him? My son used to have severe tuberculosis and practicing Falun Gong saved his life."
Men Guangjun responded to this question by ordering his followers to violently handcuff Mr. Wen, but he had his granddaughter in his arms and she was crying and screaming. The police grabbed the little girl's feet and forcefully pulled her away from Mr. Wen. The little girl's ankles and chest was injured, and she was in pain for many days. Mr. Wen's wife and daughter-in-law tried to reason with the police. The police pushed Mr. Wen's wife so hard that she fell on the floor. A policeman choked Mr. Wen's daughter-in-law and she almost suffocated. Men Guangjun and his followers took Mr. Wen, his son (Wen Jingsong), his daughter-in-law, and his second daughter to the Fengcheng City Second Prison. They were later transferred to the Fengcheng City First Prison. Mr. Wen's wife and his three-year-old granddaughter were left at home all by themselves.
Mr. Wen Cunfu was a former principal of the Gaungsheng Village Elementary School and his whole family practiced Falun Gong. Ten years ago, Mr. Wen's son, Wen Jingsong, suffered from severe tuberculosis. The hospital's treatment didn't seem to work. When Wen Jingsong's condition became worse, the Shenyang Hospital rejected him because he was too sick and the disease was very contagious. The prognosis was very poor for him. At that time, the TB had spread to five lobes and even his chest cavity. His left lung had holes in it and had shrunk. His entire lungs were infected and full of pus. He needed two drainers to remove the pus/blood mixture. Mr. Wen Cunfu's hair had turned gray and his wife seemed to have aged ten years because of their son's condition. She did not want to live without her son.
In the spring of 1998, Wen Jingsong started to practice Falun Gong and a miracle happened. He recovered quickly and felt better. By the fall of 1998, he had fully recovered from tuberculosis, felt energetic and could even work in the field. He had a checkup at a county hospital and was given a clean bill of health. The cloud over the family finally dissipated. Peace and happiness were restored to a near-broken family. The neighbors witnessed this miracle, but members of the family who practiced "Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance" were arrested and imprisoned for no good reason.

Ms. Chen Weijun is a Falun Gong practitioner from Nenjiang County in Heilongjiang Province. She has been held in the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison in Harbin City for about three years. Ms. Chen was hung up, brutally force-fed and enclosed in a small cell that was one meter wide and two meters long. She was handcuffed to a ring in the ground, with insects, rats and toads living in the cell. Criminal inmate Li Xiaoyang intentionally put a big toad in the room that Ms. Chen was kept in; when she slept, it would crouch on top of her.
In July 2001, Ms. Chen was arrested by the Harbin Police Department and held at the 7th Police Branch Detention Center for over 40 days. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Shen Baoping, 28, was from Xinjiang Province. The persecutors savagely tortured him in the Changji Detention Center simply because he remained firm in his belief in Falun Gong. The police stripped him of all his clothes and tied him onto a narrow plank. He was not allowed to get up even while eating or relieving himself. He suffered severe bodily and mental harm from this torture. Because Mr. Shen was steadfast in Falun Gong, the lawless officials sentenced him to a prison term. While in prison, he remained firm in his belief and therefore suffered long-term torture. Shen Baoping was formerly a strong and healthy person, but was tortured so severely that he looked like a skeleton and was covered with wounds all over his body prior to his tragic and untimely death.
Ms. Zhao Jishi, 80, was from Tanpeng Township, Linquan County, Anhui Province. In 1998, she started to practice Falun Gong. In October 1999, her son Zhao Yunbin and granddaughter went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. They were illegally arrested and imprisoned in the Linquan County Detention Center, where they were tortured. Afterwards, they were sentenced to two years of forced labor and were released in 2002, but the police continued to repeatedly harass her family, as well as fine and detain them. Because of this, Ms. Zhao suffered severe physical and mental trauma and she passed away on February 18, 2004. In March 2004, while her son was hanging up some truth-clarifying banners, someone reported him to the authorities. He had no choice but to become homeless once more to avoid arrest. Hence, the Detention Center officials further persecuted her. One month later, because she did not cooperate with the evildoers' demands, she was transferred to the Yuhe Police Station where she suffered from torture and forced labor. She was forced to pay 10 yuan per day for personal expenses, however her meals consisted of a small steamed bun and a small cup of thin soup. Her family members were not allowed to supply her with any additional daily living necessities. After the endless suffering, Ms. Shun's physical health deteriorated. One night she suddenly had unusual symptoms and lost consciousness. Personnel from the police station sent Ms. Shun to the hospital, where she died.
Mrs. Wu Mingli, 60, was from Xiaochi Township, Huangmei County, Hubei Province. Beginning on July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, the police from Xiaochi Township always suspected that she told people the facts about Falun Gong. They often went to her residence to harass and threaten her. On May 9, 2005 the police went to her home again to harass and threaten her, and searched for Falun Gong books. Mrs. Wu was compelled to leave home. But the police several times went to threaten her husband, causing him to be extremely frightened. Mrs. Wu was also harassed and threatened many times. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Ms. Luo went to the Chengdu City Municipal Government to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She was arrested and transported back by personnel from the company's 610 Office. During the 2000 Chinese New Year, Ms. Luo went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. After appealing, she was escorted back by the company 610 Office, detained at the Emeishan City Police Department, and fined tens of thousands of "yuan." After returning to her company, Ms. Luo was again detained at the company's community college to be brainwashed. She was kept under 24-hour surveillance. Her family members imitated her handwriting to write the three statements. After learning of this, Ms. Luo went to her company to correct her family members' act of writing the three statements, and indicated that she would remain firm in her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. Luo suffered a relapse of her former illnesses, including the uremia. She died in June 2002.
Mr. Yang Yinhua, 89, was from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. At the beginning of 1999, he started to practice Falun Gong in Suining City. After practicing Falun Gong, her back and legs straightened, and her previous illnesses disappeared without any medical treatment. Ms. Qiao told everyone she met that Falun Dafa is good. After July 1999, when the wicked CCP (Chinese Communist Party) started to persecute Falun Gong, Qiao Xuechen went to the different appeals offices of all levels of government, seeking justice for Falun Gong, but got no response. She died in November 2004.
Ms. Yang Huimin, 51, was from Hancun Village, Songlindian Town, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province. Yang Huimin suffered from a sudden massive stroke and died on March 6, 2005.
Ms. Li Xiuzhen, 64, was employed at the Handan City State Cotton Textile Factory, Fourth Factory in Hebei Province. Because she practiced Falun Gong, her residence was disturbed many times. Ms. Li suffered from mental trauma and died on February 15, 2003.
This tragedy happened to a family in Dong Yanma Village, Zhuanggang Township, Junan County, Shandong Province. Fifty years ago, the father-in-law was beaten to death during the terrible Land Reform movement. Recently, his daughter-in-law was severely threatened and intimidated by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party). She was forbidden to practice Falun Gong and she passed away in 2004 due to relapsed illnesses.
Mrs. Zhang Tingxiu was a sixty-two-year-old farmer from Dong Yanma Village, Zhuanggang Township. Before she started practicing Falun Gong, Mrs. Zhang suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis and various other illnesses. She always had difficulty breathing and was on continuous medications. Her body was so swollen that she had difficulty moving and couldn't do a thing but swallow pills constantly. In 1996, Ms. Zhang started practicing Falun Gong. Soon, she became healthy, energetic and relaxed.
In July 1999, Jiang's regime began to persecute Falun Gong. One morning in the early summer of 2000, Ms. Zhang went out with other village practitioners to the roadside to practice Falun Gong. They also "clarified the truth "of Falun Gong to passersby. Their activities were reported to the local government, and the director of Yanma Village police substation, Han Jincheng, and Xu Hengnian arrested them, searched their houses, and confiscated their possessions. Ms. Zhang was illegally detained for 15 days and fined 360 yuan.
In December 2000, Ms. Zhang Tingxiu and other practitioners were on their way to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. The group was intercepted at the Junan Railway Station, and the local police sent them back to Yanma Township in a car. All the practitioners, male and female, were detained and subjected to brainwashing in the same room for more than 10 days. The practitioners were repeatedly beaten and cursed at by the director of the police substation, Han Jincheng, the deputy director, Xu Hengnian, and the local CCP official, Xu Zhimin. They beat these elderly practitioners with rubber rods, shocked them with electric batons, kicked them, and forced them to run every day. Ms. Zhang was beaten until she was black and blue all over. The police forced her to speak against her will for the Junan TV Station. Afterwards, the officials from the local government repeatedly went to her home to harass and threaten her. As a result, Ms. Zhang's health deteriorated and her previous illnesses recurred.
Because of Ms. Zhang's illegal detention, the police's repeated searches, harassments, threats, and confiscation of her property; and the fact that her father-in-law had been beaten to death by the CCP during the terrible Land Reform, her family members were extremely frightened by the CCP. Therefore, they strived to prevent her from studying the Fa and practicing the exercises. As a result of this persecution, Ms. Zhang died on July 29, 2004.

1. More than ten Falun Gong practitioners were tortured in Daqing prison in May
After the May 1st Chinese Labor Day Holiday, Daqing Prison carried out another round of torture of all detained Falun Gong practitioners, with brutal beatings and threats. More than ten practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest. They were tied up with strips of cloth all day, some for more than 24 hours. Three practitioners were locked in small cells (1), and were forced to sit on an iron chair for fifteen days. Practitioners were not allowed to talk face to face, nor were they allowed to sleep or leave the cell to walk around. They were forced to use the toilet inside the cell. The prison authorities focused their attacks on one practitioner, Mr. Cheng Peiming. They grouped more than ten prisoners together, tied Mr. Cheng up, and tormented him with cursing and sleep deprivation. Mr. Cheng had an incision wound from an operation he had received after previous torture necessitated it. The incision was torn open when the prisoners pulled him too hard.

2. Vicious and brutal methods used in Jilin Prison to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up practice
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Hongwei is jailed in the Tenth Ward of Jilin Prison. Guards there have tried to force him to give up his belief in Falun Gong by locking him in a small cell, putting him on a "death bed" or a "stretching bed" (2), forcing him to drink water from the toilet bowl and other brutalities. He was tortured like this for two years. Many Falun Gong practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest the tortures. Guards from the 6th Ward instructed prisoners to kick and beat practitioners who were on hunger strikes. They put Mr. Cao Hongyan on the stretching bed, causing the tendons in his feet to almost sever. They force-fed some practitioners with large quantities of salt, but refused them water to drink. Prisoner Xi Yanjun (male) put a bottle of boiling water on the abdomen of practitioner Mr. Wang Fengcai who was locked on the dead person's bed, causing a huge blister to form on the skin. Guards in the 9th Ward instructed prisoners to beat Mr. Cao Zhonghua so severely that his two front teeth were knocked out.

Notes
(1) small cell: The detainee is locked up alone in a very small cell. The guards handcuff the practitioners in a fixed position on their back, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp with no sunshine. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked in the small cells during the daytime. During the night rats move around in the cells. The stench in the small cells is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
(2) "stretching bed": The police fix the practitioner's limbs on a specially-made bed on which there are four rings. The practitioner's hands and feet are fixed in the rings. Then the police apply tension to the rings, pulling the practitioner's body away from the bed as the limbs are stretched. If enough force is used, one will pass out in just a few seconds. If one is left in this position for more than ten minutes, all of his muscles and bones in the limbs will be dislocated, and the person will be permanently maimed. Further, the police forbid anyone to care for the maimed practitioners. See illustration on /emh/articles/2005/2/11/57390.html
