  • Ms. He Lihua at the Brink of Death, Ms. Yang Yuhua Died During Force-Feeding; Practitioners in Daqing City Urgently Call for Help

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. He Lihua from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province is being illegally incarcerated at the Daqing Detention Center. She was arrested in mid-April 2005 and has been holding a hunger strike since the day of her arrest. She was brutally force-fed. Right now her life is in danger. Her home phone number is 86-459-5951840.

Another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Yang Yuhua, a teacher at the No. 6 Middle School in Daqing City, was arrested from her home on the evening of April 16, 2005. The perpetrators were from the Tieren Police Department. She was sent to a detention center, where she was savagely beaten and tortured. On May 12, many guards and inmates force-fed her, which caused her death.

The following are the details about Falun Gong practitioner Ms. He Lihua's situation. Ms. He was born in 1965 and worked at the Daqing Water Company. Because she persisted in her belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, she was severely persecuted during the past few years. Ms. He was not allowed to go to work, was detained many times and had her home ransacked many times. On March 15, 2001 Ms. He was sent to forced labor. At the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center, she was tortured until she became incontinent. She could not eat or take fluids, and was paper-thin. After He Lihua returned home, Chen Guiqing from the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center led a group of perpetrators to her home and harassed her. In mid-April 2005, the police abducted He Lihua when she was clarifying the truth in front of a Daqing department store. The police subsequently ransacked her home. On May 24, perpetrators from the Longnan Criminal Police Division in Daqing issued an arrest warrant. The person in charge of the arrest was Zhang Kai.

Practitioners Zhang Guiyun, Yang Yuhuan, Zhang Weixia, Han Naixiu, Zhang Wenhua and Yang Huagui {in her 70s} are continuing to suffer brutal torture at the detention center.

The Daqing Forced Labor Camp is the main location where practitioners from Daqing City are being detained. In the past few years, the guards there have savagely tortured practitioners. They encouraged the criminal inmates to torture and abuse the practitioners as well. While some detention centers in Daqing City are starting to turn down requests to incarcerate Falun Gong practitioners, the Daqing Forced Labor Camp is still holding and torturing these practitioners. In May 2005, practitioner Yang Yuhua was tortured to death there.

Ms. Liu Chunhua from Beijing Died Due to Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Chunhua was arrested and taken to the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp in 2001. The camp guards directed drug addict prisoners and collaborators to torture her day and night. The beatings were severe, and Ms. Liu often screamed in pain. She was released after suffering a mental collapse from the torture, and she died in early 2005 after falling from a building.

Ms. Liu Chunhua was 48 years old, lived in Anzhen region, Chaoyang District, and was employed as a pharmacist by the Beixinqiao Hospital. From March through April 2001, Ms. Liu Chunhua was detained in the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp, where she suffered both mental and physical torture. The camp guards directed drug addict prisoners and collaborators to take turns torturing her around the clock. Others often heard her screams during the night. Her face was covered with bruises. She was denied use of the toilet for a long time, forcing her to use other methods, which resulted in more severe beatings and abuse. She endured these tortures for more than six months.

In autumn 2002, Ms. Liu suffered from urinary incontinence for more than two months, and then she disappeared from the camp. Later another fellow practitioner, who was in the hospital due to torture injuries, saw Ms. Liu Chunhua lying unconscious on a hospital bed, while the guards continued to beat and curse her. She was diagnosed as having late stage liver cancer. Nevertheless, the guards still took her back to the Training Division, tortured her with force-feeding, and gave her intravenous injections for several months. She was released only when the nurses could not find her veins and the force-feeding tubes could not be inserted in her nose. She suffered a complete mental collapse.

Local fellow practitioners went to visit her after hearing that she was released. She couldn't talk but would smile in an odd way when people talked to her. Her family members said she also would not talk to her family. She cooked meals for her family but never went outside.

After the 2005 Chinese New Year (February 9, 2005), Ms. Liu Chunhua fell from the fourth floor of her building and died.

The Brutal Torture of Zhang Xiaobo of Yi-an County, Heilongjiang Province

Ms. Zhang Xiaobo, age 35, lived at #54 Northeast Street, Yi'an County, Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Zhang Xiaobo is being tortured while illegally held in the First Section, Second Group of the Harbin City Women's Prison in Heilongjiang Province. On March 9, 2004, prison guards tortured her until she went into shock. When she regained consciousness, the criminal inmates bound her hands to the bottom of the bed with rope. On December 21, 2004, the guards ordered more than ten prisoners to handcuff Ms. Zhang Xiaobo, hang her up, and then torture her until she went into shock. Afterwards they stuffed her mouth full of heart attack medication.

Ms. Zhang Xiaobo described the savage torture she endured after being arrested in 2002:

On the evening of December 17, 2002, I was arrested by policemen from the Yi-an County Political Defence Branch. Two policemen from the Tiefeng District came and tried to extort a confession from me. On the 18th, they sent me to the First Team of the Tiefeng District Police Station. They conducted the following tortures on me:

    1. "Tearing limb from limb by five horses": They forced me down on a tiger bench, with my hands behind the chair through two holes. There were eight to nine policemen in the front, pulling my limbs in different directions. It felt like my heart and lungs were being torn apart.
    2. The "Great Hanging": They handcuffed both of my hands behind my back. They then hung me up with a belt hooked onto the handcuffs, with my toes barely touching the floor.
    3. Electro-shock: In the afternoons, they handcuffed both my hands and sat me in a chair. Both thumbs were wrapped with copper wires, and they then shocked me with electricity. As a result of the shock, I jerked up in the chair. They also slapped my face. I don't how many times they slapped me, but I could hardly see straight during the shock sessions.

On the evening of the 19th, the police sent me to the First Lockup Office in Qiqihar City. They continued to torture and punish me, attempting to extract a confession out of me. Two days later, the Anshun Road Police Station in Longsha District, Qiqihar City interrogated me. They handcuffed me to the tiger bench. One policeman force-fed me liquor [note: The practice of Falun Gong requires practitioners to refrain from drinking alcohol]. You could hear screams of pain coming from practitioners in the opposite room being tortured by the "Great Hanging."

On the 20th, officers from the Longsha Police Station Squadron #4 came to interrogate me. They tortured me with the "Great Hanging" again. My hands were separately handcuffed and I was hung from two iron rings in the wall. They tied my feet with rope, and three policemen hung me up. I was hung up for an entire day.

Even six months later, I still cannot pick anything up with either of my hands. To just wash my hair and my clothes, I have to have help from fellow practitioners. Among the people who tortured me, there was one called "Bureau Chief Yan," as well as people from the Political Defense branch of the Tiefeng Police Station. There are others whose names I cannot recall, but I can still recognize them when I see their faces.

Torture Methods Used in the Zhuzhou Women's Forced Labor Camp, Hunan Province: "Five Horses Splitting the Body," "Hanging in the Air," and "Modeling in the Air"

Inside Zhuzhou (Baimalong) Women's Forced Labor Camp in Hunan Province, the persecutors tortured me with several of the torture methods at their disposal: "Five Horses Splitting the Body," "Up in the Air," "Modeling in the Air," etc. They were part of the so-called: "Educate and Save," "Re-Educate and Re-Save" and "Ideological Education Like Spring Showers and Breezes" programs initiated by the purportedly lenient policies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

I started to practice Falun Gong in January 23, 1999. Simply because I believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," I have faced continuous persecution for the past five years, since the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999. In November 1999, the authorities in my work unit dismissed me from my position, stopped my salary, and illegally detained me in an office for two weeks; during this time they attempted to brainwash me. At the end of 2000, after I wrote to them to clarify the truth, telling them about my own cultivation experiences and feelings, these persecutors punished me by forcing me to sign-in and sign-out at work. They also dismissed me from my position as Team Leader of the Mathematics Teaching Team. At that time, I was teaching eight classes, which meant twenty-four sessions a week. The compensation for such a heavy workload was about 10,000 yuan. Yet, just because I practiced Falun Gong, the persecutors in my work unit withheld the money and failed me in the year-end evaluation.

On February 28, 2001, the persecutors arrested me and sent to into a "Legal System Study Session" (a brainwashing session) in Furong District, Changsha City. I was detained in the brainwashing center, and 4,500 yuan per month was extorted from me (my work unit also had the same amount extorted from them). My salary was withheld once more during this detention.

Under the influence of the slanderous brainwashing materials and various pressures, I was confused and gave in to their demands to write a renunciation of Falun Gong, which I regretted greatly afterwards. The managers of my work unit used my case as their "success story" to show off to others. In an attempt to rectify my mistake, I wrote a statement declaring that the Guarantee Statement I had written was null and void. I submitted my declaration directly to the highest levels managers at my school. On September 13, 2001, people from both the school's security office and Wulipai Police Station ransacked my home and detained me for fifteen days under the fabricated charge of "Disturbing Social Order." When I was released, the persecutors again sent me to the Furong District Brainwashing Center. They detained me in a room equipped with a bathroom (about 200 square feet) and had someone constantly monitor me. I was only allowed to go out when I was buying food. Threats and pressure were also applied regarding various aspects of my life. After I was detained there for ten months, my school transferred me to the Zhuzhou Women's Forced Labor Camp Brainwashing Center for another month of incarceration. After that, I was transferred back to the Furong District Brainwashing Center. Two months later, the persecutors sent me once more to the Zhuzhou Women's Forced Labor Camp. They sentenced me to a one-year term without going through any legal procedures.

From November 5, 2002 to January 31, 2004, I led an inhuman life inside the forced labor camp. Practitioners detained in this labor camp were put in three groups: Group 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3. Group 7-1 is the "Brainwashing and Reforming" group, in which the collaborators try to brainwash the practitioners. Group 7-2 detains practitioners who remain firm in their beliefs after going through the brainwashing in Group 7-1. The persecutors force the practitioners in Group 7-2 to obey all rules and regulations of the labor camp and forbid them from practicing the Falun Gong exercises. With any disobedience at all, practitioners from Group 7-2 are sent to Group 7-3, which is also known as the "Strictly Controlled Group." In Group 7-3, persecutors torture the practitioners brutally with various methods and try to force them to write Guarantee Statements.

On the third day after I arrived at the labor camp, the persecutors forbade me to sleep (I was in Group 7-1). During the daytime, collaborators would try to brainwash me; during the night, other inmates monitored me, not even allowing me to blink my eyes. If I did blink my eyes, they would pour a mentholated liquid medicine over my face. I was forced to stand or sit all night long each night. After fourteen days of that, I was allowed to sleep for two hours per night. After being deprived of sleep for such a long time, sleeping for only two hours made me fell horrible. I was tortured like this for eighteen days. The guards of the labor camp link the sentences of the inmates monitoring the Falun Gong practitioners to the results of how well those they are responsible for "reformed." In order to gain earlier releases, those inmates subjected the practitioners to cruel torture.

Eventually, I was sent to the "Strictly Controlled Group" three different times. The first time was in mid-March 2003. Because I refused to admit I was a criminal and therefore refused to participate in the labor, my persecutors forced me to stand facing a wall from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. each day, during which time I was only allowed a five-minute break to eat my meals. I was tortured like this for 8 days. Next, the "Strictly Controlled Group" persecutors handcuffed me and hung me by the handcuffs for six days and six nights. Sometimes the handcuffs cut into my wrists, and only my toes touched the floor. They also forced me to stand absolutely straight for several days and nights -- they called this "Modeling." The persecutors also put small stools between my arms and my waist.

The second time was on June 24, 2003. Because I had not given in during the previous torture sessions, the guards went wild this time. First they tortured me with two electric batons for an entire day. While one recharged, they would use the other one to shock me. Next, they hung me up by handcuffs attached to my wrists and forced me into different positions.

In "Five Horses Splitting the body," I was forced to stand on a stool while three or four persecutors put handcuffs on my wrists and stretched my arms straight out in opposite directions, and then attached the handcuffs to something to keep them there. Then they would take the stool out from under my feet. Because my entire body weight was rested on my outstretched arms and wrists, the handcuffs pulled so hard that they cut into my wrists, causing them to bleed. This really did feel like "Five Horses Splitting the Body."

In "Hanging in the Air," they secured my upper arms and then pulled me up into the air so that all of my body's weight pulled against my upper arms and shoulders. This caused horrible pain across the chest.

In "Modeling in the Air," they held my wrists with handcuffs and then put my feet on two legs of an upturned stool. The tips of the stool's legs were tiny, and when my entire body weight pressed my feet against them, falling totally onto these two small round leg-bottoms, it caused excruciating pain to the soles of my feet. Even after two stools were broken by doing this, I still did not give in to the torture.

I was handcuffed and hung up in every one of these positions for between half a day and a day at a time, being released only for five to ten minutes while eating. The handcuffs were not removed even when I used the restroom. While I was being subjected to these tortures, the persecutors played audio and videotapes of programs slandering Falun Gong. During that period, I was allowed to sleep for only three or four hours.

This torture lasted for forty days. By the end of it, I could neither move my arms nor take care of myself. During the hot summer weather, I was unable to wash myself or brush my teeth for more than ten days. Knowing that they could no longer torture my arms and hands, the persecutors moved to targeting my legs and feet. They forced me to kneel on the ground and then used torture methods directed at my legs and feet.

Because I knew that they had gone too far, I began a hunger strike, refusing all food and water. For the first four days of my hunger strike, they continued to punish me as before. After four days, they turned to force-feeding. Three or four people would push me to the floor (sometimes there would be a mat on the floor, sometimes it would be bare). They held my hands and feet, pinched my nose and pried open my mouth so that they could force-feed me through a tube. Within a few days, my nose and mouth were badly injured. My hunger strike lasted for about six months; from August 4, 2003 to January 31, 2004, when I was released.

Because I was not allowed to take showers or brush my teeth during the heat of summer for more than forty days, and also because of the poor hygienic conditions there, my body became covered with blisters, which came out layer after layer for over six months. Some people said these sores were scabies; they were extremely itchy, and pus oozing from them often stuck to my clothes. My term was due to end on December 14, 2003, but on December 16, 2003, I was sent back to the "Strictly Controlled Group," where I was detained for forty-five more days before my release.

On January 31, 2004, when I was finally released, some people from my school took me back to a brainwashing center, where three people monitored me around the clock. Other people would come to brainwash me at different times. I was detained and tortured like that for six months. In July and August of 2004, I was forced to do physical labor in an experimental garden while three people monitored me. In September 2004, I went back to my own work, but I was still being monitored.

I went through various forms of torture during the past five years. For more than three of these years I completely lost all my freedom; during this time my salary was completely cut off. The persecutors used a multitude of torture methods on me while they had me in the forced labor camp. These tortures were forced on me under the so-called: "Educate and Save," "Re-Educate and Re-Save" and "Ideological Education like the Spring Showers and Breezes" programs of the CCP. The tortures go against all fundamental moral values and the very conscience of human beings and the laws that govern us.

In the most difficult days, I had only one thought in my mind. It was this: In this world and this cosmos, if I cannot have righteous thoughts and speak the truth, I would rather disappear into the cosmos. Truth and gods do exist. With my righteous belief in Falun Gong I survived, much to everyone's surprise at the labor camp.

Prison Guards in the First Supervision Area of Mudanjiang Jail Direct a Convicted Murderer to Brutally Beat Practitioners

Instructor Li Jiezhi, Secretary Li Yuhong, Instructor Li Wei; Squadron Commander Dong Yujiang, Prison Instructor Wang He and others from the First Supervision Area of Mudanjiang Jail in Heilongjiang Province directed Liu Lijun, a robber and convicted murderer who now has two years of his sentence left to serve, to carry out intense persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

Because of strong support from jail and prison instructors in this supervision area, criminal Liu cruelly beat practitioners Mr. Yang Xiaoguang, Mr. Sun Rongxiao, and Mr. Liu Guolai. Liu beat Mr. Yang until he was bleeding from his nose and mouth, his face was distorted from the swelling, and his mouth was so injured that he was unable to eat. Mr. Liu Guolai was beaten until his eye sockets were black. He had three broken ribs, and he was unable to get up from the ground. Mr. Sun suffered from a merciless beating for four days. His face was deformed from the beating. After two days, Mr. Sun, who is over 50, was beaten again. He was beaten until he couldn't get up from the ground.

Less than a month after the 2005 Chinese New Year, Liu was more rampant than ever in attack practitioners, but he continued to do so with blessings from the jail authorities. Liu dared to do this because he was incited to do so by the jail officials, the area magistrate of the First Supervision Area, and the prison instructors.

During the first ten days of December 2004, Li Jiezhi, Li Yuhong, Li Wei, Dong Yujiang, Wang He and other prison guards in the First Supervision Area assembled more than 30 criminals to carry out the persecution of four practitioners in this area. They assigned four criminals to each practitioner to act as watchdogs, taking shifts to monitor the practitioners 24-hours a day. If a practitioner did not write a "guarantee letter," they would torture the practitioner by depriving him of sleep, forcing him to straighten his back and sit on a board cross-legged, covering his eyes with pieces of paper, violent beatings, and other methods. Squadron Commander Dong Yujiang told these criminals, "No matter what methods you use, that will be right as long as you are able to make them write the 'four statements'." Secretary Li Yuhong said, "This work is directly related to the percentage of your jail sentence that can be commuted upon review." Prison guard Wang He said, "Punish them for me. I will take responsibility if there is a problem."

Poisoned with propaganda, threatened and enticed by promises by these Chinese Communist Party government personnel, the criminals aggressively persecuted practitioners. In secret these criminals told practitioners about their predicament, "If we don't persecute you, they will punish us. We want to go home, so we have to follow what the jail instructors say. If they tell us to beat you, we have to beat you. All of us know you are good people and did not commit any crimes, but this tactic is used to persecute good people across the country.
