Mr. Li Jiwang was a teacher employed by the Yushu City Second High School in Jilin Province. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1999, was arrested after July 20, 1999 and detained once. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong three times and clarified the truth. He was arrested again in the autumn of 2004 because he was reported when passing out truth clarifying materials. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Jiutai City Forced Labor Camp, where he was inhumanly tortured until his mouth was deformed. It appeared as if he had suffered a stroke. The labor camp notified his family to pick him up, but the Yushu City Police Department would not approve the paperwork. In autumn of 2005, Mr. Li Jiwang was finally released to go home, but he never recovered and died in October 2005.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhong Qingling from Dadukou District, Chongqing City obtained a second chance in her life after practicing Falun Gong. She died in May 2005 due to being persecuted during the past six years.

Ms. Zhong Qingling lived on Cuiyuan Street, Dadukou District, Chongqing City. She was sick with late stage breast cancer in 1996, and the doctors in Chongqing Medical University Hospital said there was nothing they could do. She heard of the wonderfulness of Falun Gong when she was waiting at home to die, so she started practicing. After one year, at a medical exam in Chongqing Medical University Hospital, the doctors could not find any cancer cells. Her recovery was such a miracle to the doctors, and she saved a huge amount of medical costs for her employer. She previously needed people take care of her, but by then she was taking care of her family instead and went to work in Mawang Township Elementary School located in Jiulongpo District.

After July 20, 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party initiated the persecution of Falun Gong, police from Xinshan Village Station (under First Group of Dadukou District Department) ransacked her home multiple times, threatened her, and tried to force her to give up practicing. She was arrested on the night of May 28, 2003. Her husband divorced her due to much harassment from the police, and her employer fired her under pressure from the police, at a time when her son really needed her financial support for college.

Under the long-term persecution, her old sickness reoccurred, and she died in May 2005.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Zidong from Harbin City, who was illegally sentenced to a 12- year term, became paralyzed from the waist down due to persecution in Daqing Prison. He can no longer take care of himself, yet the prison authorities still refuse to release him.

Mr. Zhang Zidong was originally an undergraduate student in the School of Arts, Harbin Normal University. In October 1999, he was expelled for going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He was detained in the Nangan District Police Department in Harbin City for 27 days. On November 9, 2000, he was arrested for printing Falun Gong truth clarifying materials and was locked up in the detention center of the Daowai District Police Department in Harbin. In July 2001, the Intermediate Court of Harbin City illegally sentenced him to a 12-year term. In March 2002, and he was put into Harbin Prison.

In July 2002, guard Geng Hao from Harbin Jail assigned two prisoners with severe pulmonary tuberculosis to the bunk next to Mr. Zhang's, which caused him to become infected with tuberculosis, pleurisy, and peritonitis. He suffered severe edema and was hospitalized at the Harbin Pulmonary Hospital for 30 days. During this time, he had over 10 pounds of water drawn out of his chest and belly. Later he was hospitalized in Harbin Prison Hospital for nine months. The doctors in charge of his case were Liu Zhuru, head of Harbin Pulmonary Hospital, and Huang Yingjun, a physician. Doctors who participated in his treatment included Liu Mingde and Gao Shihong, the directors of Harbin Prison Hospital, and physician Han Hongjun. On July 1, 2004, Mr. Zhang was transferred to Daqing Prison.

On March 31, 2005, Mr. Zhang did the Falun Gong exercises. Because of this, Guo Chuntang, Chief of the Education and Reform Section in Daqing Prison, ordered other prisoners to put him under what they called "strict discipline." That evening, the prisoners on duty harassed Mr. Zhang and refused to let him sleep. In order to protest the persecution, Mr. Zhang went on a hunger strike. On April 1, 2005, when his mother came to visit him, he told his mother in front of the perpetrators about the atrocities they had committed. After that they restrained themselves a little. During his hunger strike from April 1 to April 7, Mr. Zhang was force-fed twice, which severely injured him both physically and mentally.

On May 12, 2005, because Mr. Zhang refused to wear the prison uniform, the guards from the Education and Reform Section ordered five or six prisoners to tear up his clothes. They slapped his face and stepped on his glasses. Mr. Zhang was put in solitary confinement for eight days, during which time conducted a hunger strike and was force-fed twice. From May 20 to July 25, he was prohibited from leaving his cell, going to the canteen, going to the store, or even to fetch water. They also assigned two prisoners to monitor his daily activities.

At noon on August 30, 2005, when Mr. Zhang was sitting in the sun outside his cell, guard Cui Zhengui ordered prisoners Li Xin and Gu Shanqiang to carry Mr. Zhang back to the cell. While this was happening, Mr. Zhang kept shouting, "Falun Dafa is good!" After being carried back to the cell, Mr. Zhang wanted to report the incident to Officer Zhao Dianwei, who was on duty that day, but the two prisoners stopped him. They threatened to beat him. Officer Zhao Dianwei came out of the office and said, "Get him back." The two prisoners again carried Mr. Zhang back to the cell and threatened, "If you leave your cell again we will make you sorry." While he was being carried back, his back was injured and he couldn't stand up. He became bedridden and lost the ability to take care of himself. Mr. Zhang has been hospitalized in the Prison Hospital since August 31.

Falun Gong practitioner Liu Shufen from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province has been illegally detained at the Haerbin Women's Prison in Heilongjiang Province. She was cruelly tortured in various ways, including being hung up with handcuffs. On June 6, 2005, she began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Nearly five months have passed since then. Her life is now in imminent danger. Liu Shufen's mother and ill father, who is more than 70 years old and bedridden, both long for her to return to them. The following statement comes from Liu Shufen's mother.

I'm Liu Shufen's mother. On May 11, 2002, my daughter and another Falun Gong practitioner, Yu Yongquan, were taken from a house they were renting. On September 22, 2002, the Hulu District Court unlawfully brought them to trial. Liu Shufen was sentenced to 11 years (after she was sent to prison, the term was changed to 8 years). Yu Yongquan was sentenced to 10 years. I don't think the sentences were just at all.

All three of my family members have benefited from Falun Gong. Liu Shufen had a pustule on her head when she was 8 years old and she had severe headaches. I took her to many major hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, and Qingdao, and none of the doctors could come up with a definitive diagnosis for her condition. She had taken lots of Chinese and western medicines, all to no avail. Later, her father was afflicted with esophagus cancer. I too had many diseases; I felt weak in my whole body, I sweated profusely after doing a little housework, and I'd have to go to bed to rest. Sometimes I was so ill that I couldn't even cook for my family. Every member of my family suffered from illness. We learned about Falun Gong in 1996, and we practiced together. Falun Gong's amazing effectiveness for curing disease soon healed my daughter and me. Her father's health also improved dramatically. Liu Shufen strictly requires herself to conform to the standard of "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance". Her sincerity, benevolence and tolerance touch everybody who meets her, and she is well liked by her classmates. Her supervisor and coworkers all praised her. Melting into Falun Gong, my whole family felt very lucky at that time.

In July 1999, the suppression of Falun Gong pushed millions of practitioners into pain and suffering. The ancient people said, "Bear in mind the source of one's happiness." My daughter Liu Shufen never considered the danger to her life or cared about her own personal loss or gain. She just wanted to let everyone know that "Falun Dafa is good."

Yu Yongquan was persecuted to death in Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City. During her three years in the Haerbin Women's Prison, my daughter Liu Shufen has been tortured with several cruel torture methods, such as "confined in a small cell," "hung up with hands cuffed behind the back," the "big hang up," etc. One time when I visited her, I saw that my daughter's hand was swollen like a bun and her wrist had a very deep scar from the handcuffs, evidence that Liu Shufen was being tortured in the prison.

Since my daughter was illegally detained, her father became sick because he couldn't take the mental anguish. One spring, my daughter was on hunger strike to protest the persecution in the prison and her life was in danger. Officials at the prison asked my family to take her home. I didn't expect that after I went there, they'd change their minds and prohibit me from taking her home. Her father couldn't get out of bed at that time. When he heard the news, he risked his life to make the journey to Harbin Women's Prison to request the return of his daughter. After he got out of the car, he couldn't walk and had to crawl to the prison's gate. Even seeing all this, they still wouldn't let him see his daughter. We were illegally denied the right to see our family member. The intense anguish caused her father to be hospitalized, and he survived only after 20 days of intensive care.

Afterwards her father could no longer take care of himself. He suffers from incontinence and is often laying in his own feces and urine. We don't have any relatives living nearby. Liu Shufen is our only child. My daughter started a hunger strike to protest the persecution on June 6, 2005, and it's gone on for nearly five months. Right now her life is in serious danger. My husband and I strongly request my daughter's unconditional release!

Ms. Ji Yonglan was a 69-year old woman from Jianli Village, Shifo Town, Dashiqiao City, Liaoning Province. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, and as a result she was cured of the diabetes that had haunted her for many years. After she began practicing, she was like a different person and went from someone who was illiterate to being able to read the book Zhuan Falun. Since the persecution began, the local police have continuously harassed her. They came knocking on her door during the middle of the night, or they would stay in her house and not leave. They even monitored the friends and relatives who went to visit her and her husband. The police illegally arrested her daughter, held her for half a month, and extorted 1500 yuan out of her. All these circumstances created a lot of prolonged mental burdens for her.

Ji Yonglan's husband also started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Later under all kinds of pressure from the local police, he gave up the practice. Unfortunately, he was later diagnosed with dementia, causing him to slowly lose himself. He lost control over his bowels and could no longer take care of himself. He has to be fed and have others take care of him. Due to the persecution he endured, Ji Yonglan suffered mentally and physically. In December of 2004 she showed symptoms of lung cancer and passed away in January of 2005.

In September 2004, the management department of China Network Communications (CNC)'s branch in Dalian City fired Mr. Zhang Guoyu and his spouse Ms. Shen Lian because they practice Falun Gong. The company breached their contract and deducted two years worth of Ms. Shen Lian's salary. Both husband and wife lost their jobs, and they have not received any salary for over a year, causing them tremendous financial difficulties.

Mr. Zhang Guoyu and Ms. Shen Lian started working for CNC in 1996. Through the practice of Falun Gong and following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" in their daily life, they have been in good health and spirit. At work, their dedication and considerate, kind nature have won them many of the company's awards including the "Outstanding Employee" award.

Despite their excellent work record, China Network Communications ' branch in Dalian City still dismissed them just because of their belief.

Mr. Zhang and his wife have appealed to their supervisors at work to reconsider their actions. Instead, their request was ignored and the company tried to cover up its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. With no other alternatives, Mr. Zhang and Ms. Shen sought legal help according to China's labor laws.

In January of 2005, a lawsuit against CNC's branch in Dalian City was filed at the Gaoxinyuan Labor Court. However, the court turned a blind eye to the facts presented by Mr. Zhang and his wife and ruled in favor of CNC. In May of 2005, both husband and wife filed another lawsuit against CNC at the Zhong Shan District People's Court on grounds of "Infringing upon People's Freedom of Belief and Interfering with Workers' Legal Benefits." However, the court upheld the original verdict. Although their case has been mishandled and dismissed twice, Mr. Zhang and Ms. Shen have filed the case again to the Dalian City Middle Court. Their case is currently being processed.

1. [Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province] The Situation of Local Falun Gong Practitioners Who Have Been Arrested

In September 2005, a large number of practitioners from Hegang City were arrested. On October 13, 2005, twenty-four female practitioners were sent to Jiamusi Labor Camp. Among them, there were nine practitioners who were sent back to Hegang City since they did not pass the required physical examination. 2. [Laishui, Hebei Province] Ms. Xia Shuqin Arrested

Ms. Xia Shuqin was reported to the police when she was giving out the truth-clarifying materials on October 20, 2005. She was arrested by the police and sent to a detention center and was tortured. She was sent to the hospital the next morning.

3. [Guanghan City, Sichuan Province] The Police Arrest Ms. Yang Jin and Search Her Home

Ms. Yang Jin, 31 years old, resides at Xikang Road, Guanghan City, Sichuan Province. At around 10 p.m. on October 17, 2005, the Guanghan City 610 Office and the police broke into Ms. Yang Jin's home and arrested her. They searched her home and confiscated her property.

4. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Ms. Shao Guizhi Arrested

At around 1 p.m. on October 17, 2005, Fu Wenzhong, the deputy director of the Tianhejie Police Substation of Shu Town, Shulan City, led by two fellow police officers broke into Ms. Shao Guizhi's home and forcefully arrested her. Her personal property was smashed. Frightened by their brutality, Ms. Shao Guizhi's daughter had a mental breakdown.

5. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] More Information about Ms. Hu Lan

It has been verified that Ms. Hu Lan from Xianning Electricity Supply Company was forcefully taken away from her workplace on October 19, 2005 by the 610 Office staff, led by Song Ruisheng. She was sent to the Hubei "Law Education" Center (brainwashing center) in Jiangxia District of Wuhan City on the morning of October 20. It is said that the brainwashing "classes" will last for forty days. Each "student" is forced to pay four thousand yuan. Ms. Hu Lan's workplace was forced to pay eight thousand yuan.

Ms. Chen Ai'yu is nearly 60 years old. She was arrested and sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp in 2000 for going to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. In 2003, she was followed by the police, and since there were Falun Gong materials discovered on her motorcycle, Ms. Chen was sentenced to two years after she was arrested. On September 30, 2005, her husband Yan Zhaohui reported her, and she was arrested and sent to the Law School (brainwashing center), where she has been tortured.

7. [Shaanxi Province] Four Practitioners from Xi'an City Arrested Recently

Ms. Li Qin, a nurse from the Employees' Hospital of Xi'an Transportation University, was arrested for the third time and sent to a brainwashing center.

Ms. Li Changying, an employee of the Xi'an Film-making Factory was arrested and sent to the Lianhu District Detention Center on October 12, 2005 after the 610 Office and the factory staff broke into her home.

Mr. Yu Zhenqian, a cadre from the Calculation Center of Shaanxi Provincial Science, Committee has been missing for one month. He may have been arrested and sent to a brainwashing center.

Ms. Ren Yu'e is an employee of the Jinhua Food Store at Dacha City, Xi'an City.

8. [Linjiang City, Jilin Province] Mr. Liu Jun from Dahu District Arrested, Leaving His Wife and Children Destitute

Mr. Liu Jun, 31 years old, resides at Henan Village of Dahu District, Linjiang City. He works at Lincheng Township Sand Center. He was reported to the police when he clarified the truth about Falun Gong to people around him. At 10 a.m. on October 11, 2005, Mr. Liu Jun was arrested by the Linjiang Police Department, and his home was searched. Currently he is being held in custody at Linjiang Detention Center. His wife and children have no income.

Also, Ms. Wang Weizhi from Linjiang City, Jilin Province, was arrested by the police on October 8 at Fusong County, and the details are unknown at this time.

9. [Shenqiu City, Henan Province] Ms. Wang Cui Arrested

Ms. Wang Cui from Beiguang Elementary School of Shenqiu County, Henan Province was arrested on October 13, 2005 by the local police, and his home was searched.

10. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhou Ying from Qingshan District Arrested

On October 10, 2005, Ms. Zhou Ying, from Qingshan District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, 34 years old, was reported to the police when she was writing to persuade her colleagues to quit the Chinese Communist Party and its related organizations. She was arrested and sent to the Dongxihu No. 1 Detention Center and has since been tortured there. Her parents' home was also searched.

12. [Shandong Province] Ms. Jiang Guilian from Shandong Metallurgy Exploration Bureau Arrested by the Jining Police Department

Ms. Jiang Guilian, an employee of Shandong Metallurgy Exploration Bureau, around 43 years old, was reported to the police when she was giving out the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party at the Jining Railway Station. She has been in imprisoned for many days by the Jining Police Department.

13. [Taicang City, Jiangsu Province] 610 Office Personnel Viciously Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

On June 29, 2005, without producing any search warrant, the Taicang 610 Office (the National Security Team) illegally arrested Ms. Jiang Fengying, Ms. Tao Ying, Ms. Chen Shuying, Mr. Chen Gang, Mr. Xu Wen, Ms. Shi Zehui, Ms. Qin Yanqiu, Ms. Wu Zhengzheng, Ms. Gu Qiulin, Mr. Zhou Guohua, and Ms. Wang Huixin. Currently these eleven are all being detained. Ms. Wu Zhengzheng, Xu Wen, and Qin Yanqiu were arrested. Ms. Jiang Fengying and Tao Ying were sentenced to labor camp. Wu Zhengzheng and Xu Wen will have a court hearing on October 28, 2005.

On September 12, 2005, the Taicang 610 Office (the National Security Team) attempted to brainwash Mr. Zhang Haiquan, Mr. Zhang Yongmin, Mr. Yang Zhaokun, Ms. Wang Guiping, Mr. Feng Zhenhong, Mr. Deng Mingming, Ms. Cheng Huifang, Wang Huixin, Chen Shuying, Mr. Xu Fuming and Ms. Tao Ying at Taicang Party School.

14. [Laishui City, Hebei Province] Eighteen-Year-Old Ms. Yu Yajuan Sentenced to Forced Labor

Ms. Yu Yajuan, 18 years old, was arrested at her home on September 5, 2005 by personnel from the 610 Office, the Police Department and the Political and Security Section. She has since been jailed at Laishui Detention Center to the present time. On October 13, Ms. Yu Yajuan was sentenced to a three-year term at Baoding City Labor Camp.

At the beginning of September 2005, Mr. Cao Jiwei was arrested by officials from the Laishui Police Department and the 610 Office. For going on a hunger strike to protest, he was beaten for an entire night. He has been sent to the Laishui Women and Children's Hospital for treatment.

16. [Baoji City, Shaanxi Province] Personnel from the Jintai District Police Department and the District 610 Office Arrest Falun Gong Practitioners

On the evening of October 14, 2005, dozens of policemen led by Lei Zhili, who is the section chief of the No. 1 Section of Jintai District Police Department arrested Mr. Mao Hongchao and searched his home. At the same time, a dozen policemen, led by Chen Yunfa from Jintai District Police Department, arrested Ms. Qin Lijie from the Oil Machinery Factory, Mr. Li Lianyun from Jinling New Village, Ms. Wang Juxiang, Ms. Zhang Caixia and Ms. Nie Daimin. The police also searched their homes.

Currently Mao Hongchao, Li Lianyun, Wang Juxiang, Zhang Caixia, Nie Daimin are detained at the Hostel of Baoji Engineering Machinery Factory.
