Mr. Fang Xiangfu was a 33-year-old practitioner from Fangzheng County, Heilongjiang Province. Police arrested and tortured him many times because he practiced Falun Gong. In 2002, police from the Fangzheng County Police Department and 610 Office sent him to Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp, where guards tortured him, using over 20 torture methods. As a result, seven ribs and chest bones were broken, his skull was injured and the backs of his hands were scorched. The guards invented a torture to increase his suffering. They shot needles from a homemade gun at practitioners. The needles went deep into the flesh and caused excruciating pain. As a result of the brutal torture, Mr. Zhang died on October 15, 2005.
Mr. Zhang Xiangfu was an employee of Fangzheng County Coal Mine. He began to practice Falun Gong in 1998, after which he enjoyed good mental and physical health. After July 20, 1999, the police and County 610 Office harassed him many times and arrested him five times. On October 18, 1999, Chou Yongsheng, head of the Political Protection Section of Fangzheng County Police Department, broke into Mr. Zhang's home around 8 or 9 p.m. He arrested Mr. Zhang and detained him in the county detention center for over a year. Mr. Zhang went on hunger strikes many times in protest of his detention. The guards then force-fed him. They forced his mouth open with an instrument before inserting a thick tube into his stomach, injuring his mouth.
In 2001, Mr. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal. On July 1, 2001, he practiced Falun Gong exercises on Tiananmen Square. The police shoved him to the ground, beat his head with batons, stepped on his head, and gagged him, mutilating his head. The persecutors sent him to Tiananmen Police Station and then transferred him to a small building inside the Yanshan District Police Department, where 4 or 5 people in security uniforms beat him for 48 hours. They beat him, slammed his head against the wall, and tore out much of his hair. After the brutal torture, the persecutors transferred him to the No. 2 Detention Center of Yanshan District Police Department. In the detention center, the guards used handcuffs to hang him on an iron stockade, with feet shackled. The torture caused excruciating pain. He felt as if his internal organs were all displaced.
In June 2002, police officer Chou Yongsheng (at the time, head of the State Security Team of Fangzheng County) and police staff from the Tiananmen Police Station arrested Mr. Zhang again. They detained him in Fangzheng County Detention Center for 3 months and then sentenced him to 3 years forced labor. On September 12, 2002, Mr. Zhang was sent to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. Five days later, he was transferred to Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp and detained in The Fifth Group (a group established specifically for brainwashing Falun Gong practitioners). Two inmates dragged Mr. Zhang into a room, where they shoved him to the ground and tortured him with the "Pushing, Splitting, and Bending" torture.
Pushing: the practitioner's mouth is sealed with tape. He/she is forced to lie face down with the chest touching the floor. The head is pressed to the floor by a chair with a person sitting on it. The arms are held to the sides, then roughly pushed forward to form a 180?arc up over the back and down to the floor in front of the head.
Splitting: splitting the fingers and toes with hard implements.
Bending: bending the practitioner's legs into painful positions.
Mr. Zhang's shoulders, legs, and internal organs were injured, causing great suffering. Then he was dragged to another room, where he was forced to squat on a single brick. If he moved slightly or extended his feet outside the area, the inmates beat his back with a narrow stool.
The guards in the forced labor camp tortured him inhumanly. Seven of his ribs and chest bones were broken, his skull was injured, his leg was broken and the backs of his hands and fingernails were scorched. The guards also hit Mr. Zhang Xiangfu's head with police batons filled with lead, resulting in a bump and his head hurt excruciatingly. Then they shocked his head with electric batons. They forced practitioners to squat until 1:00 a.m. Once, the guards put the electric batons inside Mr. Zhang's clothes and shocked him. Pan, a guard in Group 5, shocked Mr. Zhang's face with electric batons until he was unrecognizable and fluid ran down his face. Guard Zhao Shuang kicked Mr. Zhang's ears until they bled. Guard Pan also threw a rat on Mr. Zhang's head while the inmates violently struck his head with rubber clubs.
After Mr. Zhang was tortured close to death, the guards sent him to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp hospital for emergency care, but refused to release him. On June 20, 2005, Mr. Zhang had served his 3-year term and he was released. However, he was close to death. His family sent him to many hospitals for treatment, yet no one could save him. Mr. Zhang Xiangfu passed away on the morning of October 15, 2005.
I am a Falun Gong practitioner who has been held in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp many times. When I was at home, I learned that many people knew about the 18 female practitioners imprisoned at Masanjia who were stripped of their clothing and thrown into male criminal cells. That case was widely publicized. But it did not just happen once; it happened at least three times.
At another time, the police took ten female practitioners to Zhangshi Training House. They stripped nine of the ten practitioners and threw them into a cell with men. Another time they stripped four female practitioners and forced them into the men's cells.
During the New Year's celebrations in 2004, Su Jing, the director of the Second Division of the forced labor camp, went to the first floor of the building where practitioners under "special supervision" were held. One of the practitioners in Team 2 was brutally persecuted on two occasions, in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Each time, it was when the labor camp mounted a coordinated attack against steadfast practitioners. The practitioner was denied sleep, had her legs tied into a full-lotus sitting position, and was hung up by the hands, which were cuffed behind her back. As a result, she suffered from hypertension and heart problems. This practitioner said to Su Jing: "Didn't you say that it was a lie that 18 female practitioners were stripped of their clothes and thrown into men's cells? Look at her (pointing to a female practitioner in her thirties in the cell across from her). Was she not one of the practitioners you threw into men's cells?" Su Jing turned around and walked away immediately, without saying a word.
The practitioner she was referring to in the other cell was from Tiefa City in Liaoning Province. It was the sixth time she had been put into the forced labor camp. She has always been steadfast in cultivating Falun Gong. Each forced labor camp term lasted for a few months. This time she was jailed in October 2004. She kept yelling, "Falun Dafa is good!" She was put into solitary confinement during New Years. Afterwards she could not eat and appeared to be paralyzed. She was released in February 2005.
This practitioner was thrown into the men's cells once, but not among the 18, nor among the 4. It was the other time, when 10 of them were sent to Zhangshi Training House. One of the older ladies was released because she vomited blood. The rest of the nine practitioners were stripped and forced into the men's cells. The police told the male inmates "Don't be too harsh during the day. Be rougher during the night." This female practitioner was beaten so hard that her cheek bone protruded. She had only her underpants on. The police put the electric baton down her pants to shock her.
It has been revealed that the Political Judiciary Committee and 610 Office of Huanggang City, Hubei Province started a brainwashing session. Around the time of the Mid-autumn festival, the police arrested a number of Falun Gong practitioners. On September 13, they arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Guxiang from Xishui City, Hubei Province while she was working, and held her in the brainwashing center. After only 4 days she was in critical condition.
On September 13, Ms. Sun Guxiang from Zhudian, Zhuwa Town, Xishui City, Hubei Province was at work when a whole group of policemen, including Guo Jiangli, Zhang Bailin, and others from the No. 1 Section of the Xishui City Police Department, suddenly showed up. They picked Ms. Sun up, threw her into the police van and drove to the Xishui City No. 2 Detention Center. After they arrived, they dragged her out of the police van and pulled her by the hair from the gate to the cell. Ms. Sun was dropped on the ground so hard it made a very loud noise. She started a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
Afterwards police from the No. 1 group of the Xishui Police Department and the county 610 Office forcibly took Ms. Sun Guxiang to the brainwashing facility at the Huanggang City No. 2 Detention Center and tortured her until she was in critical condition. On September 17, they had to send Ms. Sun home. The neighborhood folks witnessed how such an energetic lady was tortured until she was in critical condition, vomiting blood and passing blood in her stool, in just four days.
After the Political Judiciary Committee and the 610 Office of Huanggang City, Hubei Province started their brainwashing session, a certain number of Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. It was around the time of the Mid-autumn festival. Since the latter half of September, Clearwisdom has reported a great deal of news about the police from Huanggang City, Hubei Province having forcibly arrested many Falun Gong practitioners, whose whereabouts are still unknown.

This photo was taken in October 2004 when Mr. Li Yequan went back to see his son Yi Xiu. At the time he had been forced to leave home and wander about in order to avoid being arrested and persecuted. Two months later, however, he was arrested at the home of a practitioner in the Yinlang District of Daqing City. In January 2005 he managed to escape from the detention center with righteous thoughts. On September 23, 2005, he was arrested once again. Now even his family members do not know where he is.
Since Yi Xiu was one year old, his father has been detained many times and was forced to become homeless to avoid being arrested and persecuted simply because he refused to give up his belief in the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Little Yi Xiu rarely had an opportunity to see his father. In the photo, little Yi Xiu held his father's neck tightly because he was afraid that his father would leave him again. Every time his father came back and then had to leave again, little Yi Xiu would cry and try to keep his father from leaving. He would become very unhappy after his father left.
Mr. Li, 37 years old, was an engineer at the 2nd Workshop of the Daqing Perforating Charge Plant and lived at the 5-24-3-101 Chuangye Village in the Honggang District of Daqing City. After learning Falun Gong, Mr. Li was honored as "One of the Best Ten Youths" and excelled at technical innovation.
Mr. Li started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. He kept firmly in mind what Teacher taught about being a good person wherever you go. He set a very high standard for himself in his work and life. Before he learned to practice Falun Gong, he took home from work the bedding he used when he was on duty. After he began the practice he brought back the bedding to the factory, Since than, he has not taken anything from work.
Mr. Li's parents were workers on Baoquanling Farm and their income was meager. When he was at school, his family was very short of money. In order to support him, his younger brother quit junior high school before graduation. He said, "I will earn money to support my elder brother." Mr. Li lived up to the expectations of his parents and other members of his family and passed the university entrance exam. He earned a good salary after his graduation and then got married. He had never quarreled with his wife. However, the persecution of Falun Gong destroyed his calm life and dashed the expectations of his family members.
Due to Mr. Li's persistence in practicing Falun Gong and appealing for and clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, he was illegally fined many times by his workplace. He was also detained at a brainwashing center, a detention center and at forced labor camps, where he was beaten up, force-fed salt water, and tortured. One extreme torture was called "tying the ropes" (1). He was tied to a metal pole outside, without his coat or shoes, in the bitterly cold weather until he nearly passed out. To avoid further persecution he was forced to leave home and become homeless.
When Mr. Li was released from the forced labor camp he was ordered to clean the recreational room for elderly people as a punishment. Since the beginning of 2000, having lost the income from Mr. Li who was the only bread-winner, his wife and young child have lived a very meager existence. His wife's workplace closed down so she was unemployed at the time. Later, she found a temporary job as a custodian to support the family. Because the expenses for kindergarten were so high she could not afford it and young Yi Xiu had to enter primary school one year earlier than other kids.
The shortage of money and the psychological pressure, as well as the lies spread by the Chinese Communist Party, made Mr. Li's wife unable to understand him. His mother-in-law also complained about him. After several years of truth clarifying, however, his wife and mother-in-law eventually understood him and began to stand by his side
Where is Mr. Li now and what is his condition as a result of the persecution? His family members worry about him a great deal.
An account of the persecution Mr. Li has experienced:
On July 14, 2000, when he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, he was illegally arrested and escorted back to Daqing City. He was detained at the Honggang Detention Center for two months and then, upon his release from the detention center, he was directly sent to a brainwashing center run by the 610 Office of the Perforating Charge Plant. He was locked up for 50 days in the factory's guesthouse. During that time he was not allowed to go home or contact any outsiders. His salary was stopped as well. Because he was steadfast in his belief, he was sent back to the Honggang District Detention Center. On January 19, 2001, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to the Daqing Forced Labor Camp. At the end of March 2001, Mr. Li was dragged to the camp's "parade" ground and handcuffed to an iron pole for continuing to do the Falun Gong exercises. That was at 3 o'clock in the morning and the outside temperature was less than -10 degrees Celsius (about 14F). The prison guards stripped off his jumper, tracksuit pants and shoes and left him there for more than an hour, until he nearly collapsed, before they dragged him back inside. On the following day the prison guards covered his face and tortured him with "tying the ropes." What's more, the prison guards force fed him with salt water. They stopped his nose with their fingers and when he opened his mouth they poured the salt water down his throat. Half of the salt water went into his lungs, which made Mr. Li foam at the mouth and then cough violently. After the forced feeding he spat salt water for nearly 20 days. After being released from the forced labor camp he was transferred to a senior citizen's home to work as a janitor.
At the end of July 2003, Mr. Li was at work when Kan Deping, the Deputy Party Secretary of the Perforating Charge Plant, and Yao Shujun, the Director of the local 610 Office, came with four or five policemen and abducted Mr. Li in broad daylight. They sent him to the Hongweixing Brainwashing Center of Daqing City and then transferred him to the Chuangye Police Station, where a confession was extorted from him after two days of torture before he was sent to a detention center. Mr. Li went on a hunger strike for more than ten days and was taken back home by his family. Then he was forced to leave home and become homeless to avoid further arrests and persecution.
On December 10, 2004, Mr. Li was arrested at the home of a practitioner from the Yinlang District after police officers from the Ranghulu District Police Department and the Chengxin Police Station of Daqing City forced their way into the house. Mr. Li was detained and interrogated at the Saertu District Detention Center for nearly a month. He went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was sentenced to three years of forced labor. He was sent to the Daqing Forced Labor Camp and was released on bail for medical treatment because he did not pass the medical examination.
At about 5 o'clock in the morning on September 23, 2005, he was once again arrested in the Sha'ertu District. Now, however, his whereabouts are unknown.

(1) Tying the Ropes - One type of brutal torture, this involves
putting a
thin nylon rope around the back of a person's neck and then wrapping it
around
both shoulders down to each arm, loop by loop, and then over each hand.
The rope
is tightened to its limit and cuts into the flesh. Both arms are forced
behind
the back and raised to the extreme, and then both thumbs are tied with
a rope
and fastened to the rope that goes around the back of the neck. The
person
tortured in this way is then kicked to a kneeling position on the

Ms. Zhang Yaping is an instructor at the Information Engineering School, Beijing Capital Normal University. The police colluded with Li Hongqi, the secretary of the Information Engineering School to "illegally arrest" her. Then they sentenced her to two and a half years of forced labor.
Ms. Zhang, thirty-seven years old, had an operation on December 25, 1998, because she was suffering from late stage breast cancer. She already had chemo-therapy twice. As a result, she felt nauseated, wanted to vomit and her hair started to fall out. Ms. Zhang started to practice Falun Gong in February 1999. She read the book and did the exercises every day. Two months later, she passed her physical examination. She never dreamed that the sickness would leave her within only two months.
In July and October of 1999, Ms. Zhang went to Tiananmen Square twice to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and was arrested and detained both times. In the year 2002, Ms. Zhang Yaping was arrested at a fellow practitioner's home and was sent to a forced labor camp for one and half a years.
In March of this year, a lab assistant said to Ms. Zhang, "You are good people." Ms. Zhang told the assistant how she conducted herself according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and yet she was persecuted and sent to a forced labor camp for one and a half years. She explained how she was cruelly tortured in the labor camp. She told how she was denied sleep if she could not finish the assigned labor and only allowed to use the toilet twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon and no other time. She also described how she was sworn at and beaten every day.
After hearing what Ms. Zhang said, Li Hongqi and Zhang Shuqing, secretaries at the Information Engineering School, Beijing Capital Teacher-Training University, had a conversation with her. They asked Ms. Zhang to write a self-criticism. They did not allow her to teach her class, and they threatened to dismiss her. Even though Ms. Zhang had matriculated from the Chinese Academy of Science with a Ph.D., they did not allow her to work. On September 23, 2005, they colluded with the police from the City Public Security Bureau to arrest Ms. Zhang, using the excuse of having a conversation with her, and had her sentenced to two and a half a years of forced labor.
People who directly persecuted Ms. Zhang Yaping: Li Hongqi, Zhang Shuqing and Zhao Wen
Li Xiujin, 41, is a prison guard at Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp. She is currently Deputy Commander of No. 7 Squadron at the women's camp.
Since the persecution of Falun Gong began, Li has actively participated in it and is known for her extreme cruelty. Her deplorable conduct has been exposed on the Minghui website many times and her crimes have been documented and sent to the relevant United Nations body. She is also listed as an offender on the Fawanghuihui website, in case numbers 18787, 21200 and others.
In her capacity as forced labor camp guard, Li often berates, humiliates, and tortures Falun Gong practitioners, which has resulted in many injuries and permanent disabilities. Nine female practitioners have died as a result of being persecuted at the camp. They are: Tang Hong, Fang Cuifang, Zhao Fulan, Wang Shujun, Yi Ling, Wu Lingxia, Jia Dongmei, Meng Xiaohua, and Wang Dongxia. Li Xiujun bears some responsibility in all of these cases.
The following is a partial list of the crimes committed by Li Xiujin.
1. On May 13, 2002, practitioners Cai Rong, Bao Lixia, Lu Xiuqin, Duan Xiuling and Ma Cuihong went on a hunger strike to protest the treatment of their fellow practitioners. They were viciously beaten by guards Li Xiujin, Liu Yadong, Zhu Tiehong and Jiang Jianan. Afterwards, their hands were cuffed behind their backs for 24 hours.
2. In May 2003, prison guard Liu Yadong locked practitioner Su Yanhua in a small second floor room for over two weeks for practicing Falun Gong exercises. During that time, they pressured Su to write a statement saying that she would follow the prison regulations, but she refused. Consequently, Liu Yadong and Li Xiujin took Su to an empty room and beat her. They tortured her by tying her hands together with one arm over her shoulder and the other behind her back. They slapped her face until she passed out. Then Liu and Li dragged Su back into the small room where they tied her onto a bed frame with her feet tied to the headboard and her hands cuffed to the frame board. She was repeatedly beaten while tied to the bed frame.
3. Around eight o'clock on June 25, 2003, prison guards Li Xiujin, Zhu Tiehong, and Wang Tiejun were threatening practitioners with electric batons to try to force them to write statements defaming Falun Gong's founder. They asked the practitioners to copy exactly what they were given, without changing a single character. Every practitioner refused. The hands of 56-year-old Lu Jin were cuffed together with one arm over her shoulder and the other behind her back. Lu shouted, "You people have no regard for human life!" Several practitioners were taken to an empty room, forced to the floor, and viciously beaten. Later that evening, the guards tortured Lu Jin again with a method called, "hanging up with hands cuffed behind the back." Without being able to touch the ground, she was hung onto a metal bed frame. With her arm already fractured from the beatings, Lu was crying from the pain. Lu was tortured like this for over 24 hours.
4. In the morning of July 25, 2003, Li Xiujin beat and kicked practitioner Zheng Yinchun and tried to force her to admit that she was wrong, but Zheng refused. Li punched Zheng on the chest so hard that Zheng felt the pain for over a month. Later, Li Xiujin tortured Zheng by cuffing both of her hands together with one hand over her shoulder the other behind her back. Zheng has had no feeling in her left arm ever since. She cannot use the arm or take care of herself.
5. In the middle of November 2003, the labor camp forced practitioners to make cell phone cases. Practitioner Zheng Yinchun told the guards, "My arm is no good. I cannot work!" Li Xiujin slapped her face and said, "If your left hand cannot do it, use your right hand!" She forced Zheng to work. In the spring of 2004, Li Xiujin was beating practitioner Su Yanhua because Su refuse to shout slogans. Zheng Yinchun tried to stop the beating and was kicked very hard by Li Xiujin.
6. On May 15, 2004, guards Li Xiujin and Sun Hui were beating practitioner Dong Li because she refused to shout slogans. Zheng Yinchun again tried to stop the beating and again was kicked.
7. On March 2, 2005, practitioners were being violently abused for refusing to sign the so-called Assisting Education Agreement. At 9:00 a.m., the guard captain Yu Wenbin ordered the guards to force practitioners to sign the agreements. Five guards with electric and rubber batons threatened practitioners to sign the agreements. Those who refused were shocked.
Guards Gao Xiaohua and Li Xiujin cuffed practitioner Ma Xiaohua's hands behind her back. A male guard hit Ma's face so hard that it permanently damaged her hearing. Ma had bruises all down her left side as well as her right thigh and buttock. Her previously injured back was re-injured so badly that she could not straighten it and thus had difficulty walking. Her right wrist and elbow areas were so painful that she could not even wash her clothes. Afterwards, Ma Xiaohua wrote a letter to the prison administration and reported the illegal actions of the prison guards. No one cared. Guard Li Xiujin told Ma later, "If I find out you've written to the administration again, your sentenced will be prolonged an extra month."
8. On March 2, 2005, several practitioners, including Niu Yuhuan, were locked in a room and viciously beaten by Squadron Commander Hong Wei, along with Li Xiujin and four other male guards. As a result of being tortured with electric shocks, practitioner Wang Qi became physically disabled, Meng Fanli's sentence was extended, and Fan Xiaohua had wounds so severe from the electric shocks that they were still visible three months later. Practitioner Niu Yuhuan was hit several times in the chest by Li Xiujin, in exactly the areas where Niu had skin cancer. Later Niu suffered a heart attack and was in serious condition. Nonetheless, she was still dragged to work and to the cafeteria for persecution. This lasted several months, during which time she was in and out of critical condition. The hospital where she was taken periodically wanted to admit Niu, but the labor camp refused.
9. On June 6, 2005, guard Li Xiujin forced practitioner Niu Yuhuan to go to work. Since Niu could not walk, let alone work, Li forced her to lie on the concrete ground for almost two months, usually without any cushions. Sometimes they would not allow her to lie down, and forced her to sit up. Li Xiujin also tortured Niu using the tiger bench. One time, Niu was forced to sit on it a whole day. When she screamed from the pain the guards laughed at her. The guards also ordered inmates to drag her around. As her ribs scraped the ground it was very painful. The guards cursed her often. After several months of severe torture, Niu is now emaciated and can no longer walk. The labor camp still refuses to release her or show her family the results of the medical examinations. They have only told her family that she cannot be released on medical parole. Prisoners are usually only released on medical parole so that they will die at home.
Prison guard Li Xiujin follows the Chinese Communist Party and Jiang's evil cohorts to actively participate in the persecution of Falun Gong. Her crimes are countless. She will face legal consequences and be punished by heaven.

Mr. Bu Yuming was a 67 year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Yichun City of Heilongjiang Province. After he began practicing Falun Gong in March of 1999, both his body and mind benefited greatly. His belief in Falun Gong grew increasingly firm. After the persecution began in 1999, he would hold his Falun Gong book and read it outside his door. Policemen would pass by and ask him what book he was reading. Mr. Bu would reply by saying, "What other books would I read?" (He meant that he was reading Falun Gong books). The policemen said, "Uncle, you read inside your house." Under the highly oppressive environment of persecution, local Falun Gong practitioners in Mr. Bu's area suffered tremendously. Thus, Mr. Bu lost his practice environment. In 2002, lung cancer appeared, and in the spring of 2002, he sadly passed away. Before he died, he gave all of his Falun Gong books to another practitioner and asked him to give them to someone who was predestined to learn.
Ms. Bao Yuzhen was 66 years old. She was from Hanjiazhong Village, of the Wancheng District, in Nanyang City, Henan Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1997, and her illnesses of many years were all cured. Her body became strong and healthy. After the persecution began in 1999, together with her daughter and son-in-law, she went out to appeal and tell people the truth about Falun Gong. They were stopped by police at the bus station and sent back. With her righteous thoughts, Ms. Bao escaped, but her son-in-law was captured. Afterwards, her son-in-law was illegally arrested twice consecutively and was held in jail longer than the law allowed. Ms. Bao's body and mind suffered tremendously. Her diabetes recurred, and she suffered a cerebral haemorrhage. In early 2002, Tanghe County policemen from the 610 Office, along with Tongzhaipu Township Police, raided her daughter's house (where she lived) and confiscated their Falun Gong books. From then on, her daughter and son-in-law had to stay away from their home in order to avoid arrest, leaving only Ms. Bao at home to look after their ten year-old child. After the persecution started, Li Debao went out to appeal to the government to reverse its policy toward Falun Gong. He was stopped by policemen at the bus station and was sent back, but he managed to escape from custody. Afterwards he was reported to the police by somebody and was arrested and tortured at the police station. He passed away in the summer of 2004.
