(Minghui.org) I recently noticed a significant reduction in my resentment and hatred.
When I looked inward, I discovered that these feelings stemmed from various human attachments: some arose from unmet emotional desires, some were triggered by the words or actions of others that I found disagreeable, and others were fueled by a sense of unfairness or a stirred-up competitive mentality.
In the past, I often merely restrained myself from resentful reactions but I did not address what caused them. Consequently, I could not eliminate them thoroughly, so they occasionally resurfaced.
What exactly was the deep-seated root cause? When I really resolved to remove this attachment, I gained some insight—the fundamental cause was that I hadn’t completely eliminated the notion of atheism.
I believe that everyone has their own destiny, which is something one cannot choose or control, as everything is predetermined. Human life is like playing a role or acting out a scene in this world. A person’s temperament, disposition, and traits are inherited and it’s sometimes difficult to think independently. Furthermore, the friction and conflicts that arise between people are the result of past-life karmic connections to settle scores of gratitude or grievances and repay our karmic debts.
Once I understood this principle of the Fa, I truly learned to respect everyone around me, including the other party involved in a conflict. I realized that we all came to the world to resolve karmic debts and grievances.
Now, I strive to keep a close watch on my every thought, measure myself with the Fa’s standards, and look at myself first, rather than blaming others. I will immediately correct myself whenever I identify any deviation from the Fa.
I try to treat other people’s actions with tolerance and magnanimity without obsessing over the outcome. The standards of the Fa ultimately judge the rightness or wrongness of their actions. I feel much lighter and more relaxed after I adjusted my mindset.
