(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman incarcerated for her faith in Falun Gong was denied family visits and medical parole despite suffering from late-stage colon cancer.
Ms. Guo Zhimin was arrested on October 24, 2025, and sentenced to one and a half years in prison following a court hearing on March 19, 2026. She previously served a 14-month term (November 2021–January 2023), also for practicing Falun Gong. See the related report for details.
Ms. Guo was diagnosed with late-stage colon cancer in May 2026 after a required physical exam. The doctor warned that the cancer cells had spread to her lungs, and that she had at most three months to live.
Despite her condition, the Qingdao City Detention Center refused to release her on medical parole. After the Qingdao City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold her original verdict, she was transferred to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison, which admitted her, fully aware of her grave condition.
Ms. Guo’s family filed parole requests many times, which were rejected by the prison authorities each time. The family was also denied visits with her. The prison recently notified them that Ms. Guo was being given chemotherapy.
The persecution of Ms. Guo took a toll on her husband’s health. He had a stroke and now suffers from facial paralysis. Their daughter had to wean her newborn baby so as to have more time to seek her mother’s release.
