(Minghui.org) My parents introduced me to the precious book Zhuan Falun in February 1998. The principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance guided me to not just be a good person, but an even better person, a person of high moral character. As a teacher, I do not pursue fame and personal gain, but, rather, I focus on helping my students become kind and good people, sincere and trustworthy, tolerant and forbearing.
When they face conflicts of interest, I teach them to understand the relationship between loss and gain and the relationship between karma and virtue. I remind them to first examine themselves for their shortcomings when they encounter conflicts, consider the other person’s perspective, and take a step back. Using traditional culture, I gently guide them to do good: “Do not fail to do good even if it is small.” “Don’t do unto others what you would not have them do unto you. Be sincere, kind, and tolerant in dealing with others.”
I ask the students to create a clean, comfortable, and cozy environment. In winter, we use iron stoves that burn coal and wood to heat the classroom. The students on duty compete to light the stove and create a warm and happy atmosphere.
I tell my students that exams can help them identify the gaps in their knowledge, and I don’t let them cheat or copy from each other during exams. When I grade their homework, I do not emphasize scores. Instead, I encourage or caution students, thus liberating them from being overly concerned about grades.
I organized picnics, hiking excursions, flashlight and candlelight parties, and other fun activities to give my students an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of nature, such as colorful flowers, fragrant fruits, colorful autumn leaves, magnificent sunsets, and other beautiful scenery. I also provide free evening tutoring sessions, thus reducing their parents’ burden.
The students in the school I was assigned to had the lowest grades in the entire district. It was a school truly in a state of disarray. One teacher even tended his fields during school hours. A very sad thing occurred when a nine-year-old boy was lured by a five-year-old boy into deep water and drowned. Another incident occurred during a centralized exam when students had a conflict, and that night a ten-year-old girl ran away into the forest in the mountains, deliberately avoiding search parties. She wasn’t found until the next afternoon, more than 100 li (about 31 miles) away. Her shoes were frozen, and she lost one small toe due to frostbite. This shows how lax the school’s management was.
I took over this challenging, chaotic, and poorly-managed school. I devoted myself wholeheartedly, putting people first and implementing a civilized management. I guided myself with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, teaching by example more than words.
The appearance of the campus and the spirits of the teachers and students were completely transformed. By the end of the second year, our school ranked in the top three in the district-wide exams. In joint exams with nearby farm schools, our results were also outstanding. In the Ethics course I personally taught, my methods maximized efficiency while reducing the students’ burden. I never made the students memorize by rote. Falun Dafa’s principles opened their wisdom, and both teachers and students benefited. Teachers put in less time and effort, while students performed exceptionally well on exams, with outstanding results in the Ethics subject. A girl from my class transferred to a farm school and earned first place among 48 transfer students.
Although I taught almost every subject, I mainly taught Chinese language. After I began practicing Falun Dafa and I viewed the complex content of Chinese language from a higher realm, my thinking opened up and everything became clear. I handled complex problems simply, and I categorized the content according to themes. I encouraged students to prepare notebooks, read picture books, and write diaries. I also read them short articles to guide them to connect with real life and to write about their feelings and insights.
I also guided students to raise questions, observe and think, practice hands-on work, integrate subjects, and be inspired by traditional culture. For example, when observing scenery, I taught them to note colors, shapes, movement and stillness, and how things change during different times such as sunrise, sunset, rain, and fog, and under different environmental conditions. I was interviewed by a major metropolitan TV channel. The compositions I encouraged were read aloud by the students and were shown on screen.
A year later, I returned to work at my original school. My daughter stayed with relatives in the city for an entire semester and did not attend school. Her extraordinary reading ability allowed her to read extensively. When my second-grade daughter returned to the original school, she made perfect scores in all five main subjects on her first exam. When she later took the college entrance exam, her mock exam results changed dramatically. She jumped from the slow class to the fast class, and her scores improved each time. In her worst subject, math, she scored 75 points on the college entrance exam. Both she and her brother ranked second in liberal arts locally and earned two scholarship awards. My younger sister’s daughter was admitted to the city’s key high school. Her college entrance exam score just reached the first-tier cutoff line, yet she was admitted to her ideal school’s popular program. She studied abroad and worked overseas. All her achievements were a testament to Dafa’s extraordinary ability to open her wisdom.
Here, I’d like to thank Master for introducing Falun Dafa to the world.
Each child’s composition I guided had its own merits—substantial content, logical order, and rich in genuine emotion. Through rigorous training, the students’ reading and writing abilities and techniques improved greatly, benefiting them for life. I told my students the nine auspicious words: Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance are good.
After the CCP began persecuting Falun Dafa, my wife, child, and I, along with practitioner relatives, went to Beijing to appeal. We were arrested and taken to a detention center. We were illegally held in administrative detention for 30 days, had 3,000 yuan extorted from us in so-called bail money, and had another 4,000 yuan illegally deducted from our wages by our work unit.
When I returned to work, I was summoned by relevant departments five times in 25 days. I remained unmoved. I explained to my coworkers how practicing Falun Dafa gave me wisdom and allowed me to develop my teaching methods to benefit students. I mentored young teachers, continuing to use the teaching methods of combining reading and writing and making learning enjoyable in Chinese language and other subjects.
I am infinitely grateful for Master’s compassionate and painstaking salvation. My heart surges with gratitude. I can only be more diligent, do the three things well, help Master save people, fulfill my vows, and return home with Master.
