(Minghui.org) A 52-year-old man in Huixian City, Henan Province, was finally discharged from the psychiatric ward of a local hospital on January 3, 2026, after an involuntary stay of two years and eight months.
Mr. Yang Jinhan has no mental illness. He was committed to the psychiatric ward simply because he refused to renounce his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since July 1999. He was previously held in the same psychiatric ward for over eight months, from April 2022 to January 2023.
Three psychiatrists from the Baiquan Town Health Center in Huixian City—Li Xiyan, Wang Hao, and Liu Xiangming, broke into Mr. Yang’s home on May 10, 2023. When Mr. Yang resisted being taken away in an ambulance, they threatened to harvest his organs while he was alive.
Although the police were not present during Mr. Yang’s arrest, he believes that they ordered the doctors to commit him to the psychiatric ward. Earlier, on March 8, 2023, officer Liu Yang and Jia (first name unknown) broke into Mr. Yang’s home to harass him. Liu beat him when he said “Falun Dafa is good.” Liu and village head Ma Hailin came to Mr. Yang’s on April 19, 2023, and attempted to take a picture of him against his will. He refused to comply, and Liu threatened to put him in the psychiatric ward. The threat materialized one month later, on May 10.
A Doctor Liu abused Mr. Yang in front of other patients when Mr. Yang said out loud that Falun Gong was being illegally persecuted. Ma Jinming, a local man assigned to monitor Mr. Yang, beat him when he did the Falun Gong exercises.
Mr. Yang’s family and friends were only allowed to visit him once a month. Doctor Li signed off on the discharge papers when he was finally allowed to go home, on January 3, 2026.
Then-chief Shao Mingke of the Zhangcun Police Station and officer Yang Zhongfei arrested Mr. Yang on April 25, 2022, and took him to the psychiatric ward of the Baiquan Town Health Center.
The medical workers and people assigned to monitor Mr. Yang subjected him to electric shocks (with batons and electric needles), beatings, and verbal threats. A man named Ma Ning held him down to shock him with an electric baton. Ma also stomped on Mr. Yang’s face, to force him to take unknown medications.
The aforementioned doctor Li was also the attending physician during Mr. Yang’s first psychiatric ward detention. The head nurse then was Chang Yan. They told him that chief Shao would not allow them to discharge him.
Officer Liu visited Mr. Yang numerous times at the hospital and promised to release him at a certain time. He was eventually freed from the hospital on January 10, 2023.
Prior to his two psychiatric ward detention, Mr. Yang was repeatedly arrested and harassed for practicing Falun Gong. After an arrest on May 23, 2007, he was given one year of forced labor at the Baimiao Labor Camp where he was brutally tortured. (See the second related report for details of his abuse.)
After he was released in May 2008, Mr. Yang went into hiding to avoid further arrest. The Tongbai Road Police Station officers took a family member as hostage in 2010 and threatened to keep them in custody if the family failed to turn him in.
After one of Mr. Yang’s relatives paid the police 500,000 yuan, they released his family member.
The police continued to harass the family, and extorted another 500,000 yuan from them.
Officers Liang Lijun and Xia Meng from the Longhu Town Police Station in Xinzheng City, Henan Province, arrested Mr. Yang at his rental place on January 11, 2019. Neither were in uniform, nor did they produce IDs or a search warrant. They took Mr. Yang to the police station for interrogation, then drove him to the Xinzheng City Chinese Medicine Hospital for a physical exam. They then gave Mr. Yang 15 days of detention at the Xinzheng City Lockup.
Because Mr. Yang refused to wear inmates’ uniform, he was put in a “strict management” cell. The lockup guards sometimes did not give him any food. Three people who claimed to be from the Xinzheng City Political and Legal Affairs Committee interrogated him at the lockup.
Mr. Yang was released on January 27, 2019, and returned to his hometown, Huixian City.
Three officers from the Zhangcun Police Station harassed Mr. Yang at home on October 25, 2020, and took pictures of him against his will. One of them said they had been monitoring him for several months.
Another two officers from the Zhangcun Police Station harassed Mr. Yang at home on June 9, 2021. They demanded to know his phone number. The same two officers returned two days later but were not in uniform. They returned again on June 19, this time with Liu, and confiscated a portrait of Falun Gong’s founder.
Liu, Jia, and a third officer whose name was unknown, broke into Mr. Yang’s home again around late June 2021 and confiscated his laptop and internet router. They did not show a search warrant.
Liu returned the laptop to Mr. Yang on September 23, 2021. He and two other officers returned the next morning and produced a notice saying that the Huixian City Police Department needed to talk to him. They confiscated his laptop again, along with his iPhone and several other cell phones, without showing a search warrant.
After Mr. Yang was taken to the police department, officer Ren Zhiwei forced him to give a blood sample and to submit to other tests. He was then interrogated in the basement. The police questioned him as to whether he had submitted a report to Minghui.org to expose the persecution he experienced at the hands of officer Liu. Liu demanded that he put in a request to Minghui.org to remove his name from the website.
Liu later took Mr. Yang to the Zhangcun Police Station for further interrogation. That night he took him to the Huixian City Hospital for another physical exam. Mr. Yang suspected that the tests were to determine whether he was a candidate for organ harvesting.
He was taken to the local lockup and held there until October 9, 2021. The day after his release, Mr. Yang went to the Zhangcun Police Station to urge Liu to not persecute Falun Gong any more. Liu and two other officers showed up at his home on October 11, 2021, and notified him that he was under surveillance. Liu also defamed Falun Gong. One of the other two officers had once snatched Mr. Yang’s key, and beat him during an earlier arrest.
Liu, Jia, and Yang Zhongfei searched Mr. Yang’s home at 8 p.m. on December 27, 2021. Liu threatened to “teach him a lesson” if Mr. Yang dared to destroy images glorifying the CCP again.
Liu, Yang, and a third officer raided Mr. Yang’s home again around 8 p.m. on January 13, 2022. Liu and Yang returned the next day at 5 p.m. They again threatened Mr. Yang not to spraypaint over CCP propaganda images.
Liu and Ren searched Mr. Yang’s home yet again on March 16, 2022. They did not find the paint they claimed he had. They left, but returned the next morning. They threatened to cut off his electricity and evict him from his house.
Liu and Ren returned on April 3, 2022, and took a few pictures of Mr. Yang. The couplets on his door reading “Falun Dafa is good” were also ripped off.
Village head Ma Hailin took Mr. Yang to the village office on April 19, 2022, and made a copy of his ID. Liu, Ren, and a third officer then arrived. Liu seized Mr. Yang’s ID and ordered him to get a COVID-19 shot. When Mr. Yang asked for his ID back, Liu dared him to come talk to him at the police station.
