(Minghui.org) A Kangbao County, Hebei Province, resident stood trial at the Shangdu County Court in Inner Mongolia on December 15, 2025, for his faith in Falun Gong.
Mr. Xi Zhaojun’s family was shocked to see that he was barefoot and still wearing the same summer clothes he wore when he was arrested on July 8, 2025, while on his way to Shangdu County. They had sent him winter clothes and apparently the clothes were withheld from him.
Other details of Mr. Xi’s trial remain to be investigated. He is likely still held at a detention center in Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia.
Mr. Xi’s lawyer, who visited him shortly after his arrest, once revealed what he said about being assaulted by the police. While taking him to the detention center, three officers kept slapping him in the face. His face became swollen and bled. They also inserted the buckle of the safety belt into his mouth to pry his teeth out. When he tried to dodge them, they stabbed his eyes with the buckle and threatened to put him in a psychiatric hospital. His face was still swollen when his lawyer visited him eight days later, and his mouth continued bleeding. Several of his teeth had become loose and he also had a mouth ulcer.
Prior to his trial, Mr. Xi’s mother, in her 70s, asked a friend to help her write a letter to the chief of the Shangdu County Police Department, seeking her son’s release. Having lost her husband to illness in 2017, she was heartbroken to see her son detained again for practicing Falun Gong.
In her letter, the elderly woman recounted how her son never accepted gifts from his students while working as an elementary school teacher, and later, as a middle school teacher. He treated all students fairly and with kindness. After the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, her husband tried to stop their son from practicing Falun Gong for fear of him being persecuted. He held firm to his faith and was later sentenced to four years in prison and fired from his job. The couple’s world collapsed.
After Mr. Xi was released, his father was involved in a car accident and sustained head injuries that left him paralyzed. Mr. Xi urged his father to try Falun Gong. He played Falun Gong lecture audios for the older man to listen to, and the latter recovered in just a few months and was able to do farm work again.
Mr. Xi’s mother said that had she not witnessed her husband’s miraculous recovery, she’d never have believed Falun Gong’s healing effects. She also thanked Falun Gong for enabling her son to be a kind person. He did tutoring to make a living and helped her take care of her parents and in-laws. Her husband later died of illness in 2017. While still grieving her husband, her son was arrested again for his faith and brutally beaten by three officers. She was devastated, as her son should never have been arrested for breaking no law in exercising his constitutional right to freedom of belief.
