Liaoning Woman Imprisoned for Her Faith, Grief-stricken Husband and Mother Pass Away

Jan. 29, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Jinfeng is set to complete a four-year prison term on February 18, 2026 (the day after the Chinese New Year), yet she would not be able to celebrate the holiday season with her husband and mother, as they had passed away five months apart, without seeing her one last time.

Ms. Wang Jinfeng

Ms. Wang, 67 and of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on February 19, 2022, for her faith in Falun Gong. She was sentenced to four years on September 19, 2022, and admitted to the Liaoning Province Second Women’s Prison on March 30, 2023. Her family was kept in the dark about her case status. They didn’t find out about her prison transfer until April 28, 2023.

Because Ms. Wang remained firm in her faith, she has been subjected to torture and strict management, and has also been denied family visits since her prison admission.

Prison Torture

In April 2023, when Ms. Wang was still held at the prison admission division (Second Division), she was denied restroom use for a full day. After she was transferred to the Tenth Division, the guards instructed the inmates to tape her mouth and she almost suffocated.

In September 2023, as Ms. Wang refused to have her face scanned after doing labor work, two inmates held her arms and pulled her hair from behind to lift her face to be scanned.

The guards once significantly reduced her food for four months, causing her to become emaciated.

The guards and inmates also beat Ms. Wang at will. She filed complaints against them, but no to avail.

Husband and Mother’s Passing

Ms. Wang’s husband, Mr. Zhang You, supported her in practicing Falun Gong, after witnessing its positive effects on her health. But after the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution in July 1999, he also endured tremendous pressure, when Ms. Wang was repeatedly arrested and detained for upholding her faith.

Mr. Zhang was devastated when Ms. Wang was sentenced to seven years in February 2010. He drank to drown his sorrows and was on the verge of a mental breakdown. Encouraged by his family, he overcame his depression and visited Ms. Wang in prison every month.

Following Ms. Wang’s latest arrest in February 2022, Mr. Zhang worked hard to seek justice for her, only to see her given the second prison term of four years. The anxiety and mental distress took a toll on his health. He developed high blood pressure and suffered a stroke.

Mr. Zhang took a fall in September 2024. He stayed in the intensive care unit for nearly two months and passed away on October 28, 2024, at the age of 62.

Ms. Wang’s mother, Ms. Lu Shulan, was also extremely worried after she was arrested. The elderly woman fell critically ill and refused to eat for seven days during the 2023 Chinese New Year. Upon hearing about her mother’s condition, Ms. Wang passed a message to her asking Ms. Lu to wait for her return. Ms. Lu then miraculously recovered. She often mumbled, “When can Jinfeng come home?” On March 14, 2025, less than five months after Mr. Zhang passed away, Ms. Lu also died. She was 93.

Ms. Wang wasn’t told about the deaths of her husband and mother, due to denied family visitation. Her family worries about how she will cope with the news when she is released on February 18, 2026.
