(Minghui.org) More than ten Falun Gong practitioners in Acheng District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, were arrested on August 21, 2025, and four of them face indictment.
According to insiders, the Harbin City Police Department and its subordinate Acheng District Police Department, the Shuangcheng District Police Department, and multiple police stations within the two districts, were responsible for the arrests, which took place ahead of the Chinese Communist Party’s massive military parade on September 3, 2025. The targeted practitioners were under surveillance for more than two years before they were arrested.
Minghui.org confirmed five of the arrested practitioners are: Ms. Liu Shuzhen, 76, Ms. Li Hongmei, 65, Ms. Wang Lingli, 64, Mr. Shi Zuosheng, 74, and his wife Ms. Chen Xiumei, 56.
The Acheng District Police Department later combined the cases against Ms. Liu, Mr. Shi, Ms. Chen, and Ms. Li into one and submitted it to the Acheng District Procuratorate. Ms. Wang’s case status remains unknown.
Below are details of the practitioners’ arrests.
Ms. Liu had just stepped outside her apartment building on August 21, 2025, when she was seized by 16 officers from the Harbin City Police Department, the Acheng District Domestic Security Office, and the Ashihe Police Station. Staff from the Central Government Inspection Team and local community workers were also present. They took her to her home and confiscated all her Falun Gong books, computer, two cell phones, a music player she used to do Falun Gong exercises, and several hundred yuan in cash.
Ms. Liu was next driven to the Harbin City Second Detention Center. She was so traumatized by the sudden arrest that her systolic blood pressure shot up to 240-260 mmHg (a normal range is 120 or lower). The guards rushed her to the Harbin City Sixth Hospital and took her back to the detention center after her condition stabilized.
Ms. Liu’s husband, who had brain atrophy and was incapacitated, was devastated by her arrest and became bedridden. For over ten years, he relied on Ms. Liu to feed and bathe him. Their relatives all knew that Falun Gong gave her the strength and patience to take care of a long-term patient. She took up Falun Gong in 1997 and soon regained her health. She also treated her daughter-in-law as if she were her own child.
After Ms. Liu’s latest arrest, her daughter-in-law, who lived with her, took leave from work to care for her father-in-law. Ms. Liu’s son works to support the family and worried if she’d survive the ongoing detention with her high blood pressure.
Ms. Chen took up Falun Gong and soon recovered from her illnesses. Mr. Shi was amazed and joined her in the practice in 1996. He was riding his electric bike home on August 21, 2025, when over ten officers from the Huining Police Station and the Ashihe Police Station, as well as workers from the Jindu Street Office, and the Shangjing Community, seized him. They also arrested his wife Ms. Chen. The couple’s home was raided, with their Falun Gong books, two printers, one computer, 40,000 yuan in cash, and some banners bearing Falun Gong messages confiscated.
Mr. Shi was held at the Acheng District First Detention Center, and his wife was held in the Harbin City Second Detention Center. Ms. Chen was traumatized by the arrest and lost her appetite. She was sent to the hospital and her children were ordered to cover her medication costs. It is unclear whether she remains hospitalized at the time of this report.
Seven officers from the Huining Police Station, the Daling Police Station, and the Ashihe Police Station, broke into Ms. Li’s home on August 21, 2025, and confiscated a large amount of Falun Gong books and 400 yuan in cash. She previously served two labor camp terms totaling four years for practicing Falun Gong. Her mother (in her 70s) and brother (43), both Falun Gong practitioners, died in 2000 and 2002, respectively, as a result of the persecution.
Ms. Wang was home on August 21, 2025, when several officers smashed open her window and broke in. They raided her home before taking her to an unknown facility. Her blood pressure shot up and she was rushed to the hospital. It is unclear where she is detained now.
Ms. Wang began practicing Falun Gong in 2006, at the recommendation of her sister-in-law. Her husband was diagnosed with brain cancer earlier that year and his sister urged him to practice Falun Gong. He was able to live much longer than his doctor predicted, and died in 2016. Ms. Wang also benefited from Falun Gong. She had the stamina to care for her husband before he died and she later took care of her daughter’s twins. Her daughter was traumatized by her latest arrest and often wept.
