(Minghui.org) Anhui Province Women’s Prison has been actively involved in torturing Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to renounce their faith.

If practitioners refuse to be "transformed," the guards instigate the inmates to attack the practitioners and force them to write guarantee statements, make them stand for a long time, arrange for them to do night duty, or not let eat or use the restroom. The inmates are implicated if the practitioners refuse to be "transformed." A practitioner in her 70s was forced to stand for long hours every day for seven years for refusing to be "transformed."

Torture Methods

Shocked with Electric Batons

The guards handcuff the practitioners behind their backs and shock their necks, armpits, and temples with electric batons for several hours, until the batteries run out.

Violent Beatings

Guards and inmates pin the practitioners on the ground and kick them in the head. They also hold the practitioners’ heads against the table and punch them in the head.

Injected with Unknown Drugs

Practitioners are injected with unknown drugs or forced to take unknown, toxic substances.

Forced Labor

Practitioners are forced to do labor, sometimes for 20 hours a day or even 24 hours without a break.

Straitjacket

The guards force the practitioners to wear straitjackets for several months at a time. Practitioners often faint because the jackets are pulled so tight.

Watching Slanderous Videos

Practitioners are deprived of sleep and forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong, then made to write statements to renounce their faith.

Persecution Cases

Upon prison admission, practitioners were sent to the Twelfth Division and forced to memorize the prison rules. A guard surnamed Fang holds an electric baton and orders the practitioners to squat. Even if practitioners feel unwell or the weather is very cold, Fang still makes them squat outside in the rain.

Ms. Wang Cuilan, a retired nurse from Linquan County, was arrested on June 12, 2020, and sentenced to 10 years. This is her second time being imprisoned here. Due to an injury suffered during her first prison sentence, her back was hunched at a nearly 90-degree angle, and she was very thin. Two inmates would drag her around.

Ms. Wang was allowed to use the restroom only once a week. The longest duration she was denied restroom use was more than 20 days. Each time she wanted to use the restroom, she was ordered to denounce Falun Gong’s founder, which she refused. When she was able to use the restroom, her urine was reddish-brown and had a pungent smell. She rarely ate or drank. She became tired and hungry after some time. She was also not allowed to wash herself, causing her body to have an unpleasant odor.

Ms. Zhao Meijun from Huainan City was arrested on October 21, 2020, and sentenced to 8.5 years. She has also suffered from similar torture as Ms. Wang in the Third Division.

Ms. Ding Shumei from Hefei City was arrested on October 30, 2017, and later sentenced to eight years. This is the time that she was sentenced for practicing Falun Gong. In the Eighth Division, she refused to be "transformed" and was made to do forced labor. She was not allowed to bathe. Six months into her term, her father and husband passed away, and the prison used their passing to try to force her to "transform," but to no avail. She developed uterine cancer shortly after.

Ms. Liu Liying was sentenced to nine years and held in the Second Division. She was assigned heavy labor, causing her to become exhausted and emaciated. She developed skin disease. Her body was covered in itchy bumps and she couldn’t fall asleep.

Ms. Liang Huaiyuan, a 79-year-old senior engineer from Bengbu City, was arrested in February 2016 and later sentenced to an unknown term. Due to the brutal torture at Anhui Province Women’s Prison, she was unable to take care of herself. Her family applied for her to be released on medical bail, but were rejected. When her lawyer visited her, she was unable to stand up or even talk. She was eventually released on an unknown date. She did not recover and passed away on November 25, 2024.
