(Minghui.org) A young practitioner, Ruijun, said he often felt disturbed by his thoughts and seemed to long for romantic relationships and a happy marriage. He couldn’t help but yearn for the tender feelings between a man and a woman and the warm, caring feelings that come with them.
Ruijun knows that from the perspective of the Fa, “sentimentality” is something that exists among ordinary people, and it should be let go of gradually by Falun Dafa practitioners. However, whenever he met someone of the opposite sex who met his standards, he still found himself involuntarily attracted to her, and his mind was filled with fantasy. In response to this type of thought, Ruijun sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate it, but after some time, his thoughts wandered again.
One day, as he studied the Fa, he came across this paragraph:
“There are also some people who later understand the content of my lectures. They let go of some things and their bodies are purified. While others’ bodies are already light, these people just begin to have their illnesses healed and start feeling unwell.” (Lecture Two, Zhuan Falun)
Ruijun suddenly realized: Why can’t I let go? It’s because I don’t understand the fundamental attachment behind it, which means I haven’t seen through what “romantic love and a happy marriage” really are.
Master taught us:
“How is it formed? In most cases, it’s usually like this: In the previous life one person did a favor for another person and that person couldn’t repay it—perhaps he was a low-ranking official or was very poor in that life. He benefited greatly from that favor, so he wanted to repay it. Then this might result in a predestined relationship between husband and wife. It could also be that in the previous life someone loved someone else or they both loved each other, but they didn’t have that predestined relationship and couldn’t form a family; then it could result in a predestined relationship of husband and wife for the next life.” (Fa Teaching Given in New York City)
Marriage is essentially a karmic connection or debt. Once this karmic connection or debt is resolved, there will be no further ties between the two individuals. The mutual attraction and deep affection between men and women are driven by “sentimentality,” which, in essence, is a force specifically designed to keep sentient beings bound within this illusory world.
Only through cultivation can one transcend this realm and be free from its constraints. Desire, on the other hand, is merely a manifestation of “primal instinct,” and these are precisely the things that cultivators must eliminate.
Master told us: “That’s because the side that has been fully cultivated was separated.” The purpose for this is to prevent the cultivated part from being polluted. However, when we have sufficient righteous thoughts, we can mobilize the well-cultivated part and our righteous energy.
The emotions and desires that exist within the three realms, along with the interference of the old forces during the Fa-rectification, have created an enormous barrier that prevents practitioners from assimilating to the Fa and using righteous thoughts to activate their supernatural abilities.
If one cannot recognize this on the level of the Fa, but instead becomes immersed in the illusions of the three realms and is driven by emotions and desires to enjoy what is considered to be a pleasant feeling, one will never truly become divine and will never be able to escape the delusions set up by the old forces.
Behind a stubborn notion lies a longstanding old forces’ arrangement. In our endless cycles of reincarnation, we have been assigned countless roles. According to their arrangements, we form various attachments. When it comes time to cultivate and eliminate these attachments, the old forces make systematic arrangements. However, all of this is based on the principles of past cultivation and the standards of the old universe’s period of “destruction,” and it will never meet the standards of Dafa cultivation in the new universe.
When Ruijun used the righteous principles of the Fa to correct his distorted thoughts and notions, he found that his attachment to emotion gradually faded. The turbulent thoughts in his mind disappeared. Some thoughts occasionally surfaced, but he was able to be alert and control them, immediately correcting them in the Fa. When he meditated he experienced “lightness and clarity,” along with a sense of sacredness. He felt that his divine side was growing stronger and that those improper thoughts were truly nothing.
