My Cultivation Experience of Rescuing a Detained Fellow Practitioner

July 21, 2025 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Fellow Falun Dafa practitioner named Zhong was arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials and was detained at a detention center in the fall of 2023. There were only a limited number of practitioners who could participate in the rescue effort, so, someone asked if I could get involved. As I had no prior experience in rescue work, I was reluctant to participate at first. Upon seeing my ambivalence to help, the practitioner who’d come to ask me stood at my door and wouldn’t leave. I was then finally able to let go of my self and agreed to cooperate in the rescue effort.

Resisting Persecution Is a Process of Saving People

After the rescue team was formed, it took quite some effort to get into contact with Zhong’s wife Meng. In our repeatedly clarifying the truth, Meng came to understand that Dafa practitioners are good people. Zhong didn’t violate any laws, and the only path forward was to take legal action. With her consent, we hired a lawyer who we felt could handle the case.

During the nearly one year of rescue work, it felt like every step was a struggle. The police officers handling the case were extremely unreasonable, rude, and evasive. As it was a case involving a Falun Dafa practitioner, they acted as if they were above the law, and blindly obeyed orders from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

After some unpleasant interactions with the police, Meng nearly lost hope and didn’t want to continue. We promptly shared among ourselves and realized that, as cultivators, we must not have selfish thoughts or harbor resentment toward the police, procuratorate, and court officials. From the Fa, we understood that our purpose should be to help people who are caught up in the persecution to understand the truth so they would stop committing crimes. In doing so, we’re saving them.

We shared and looked inward whenever we encountered bottlenecks. Each time, we were able to identify many human attachments, such as impatience, fear, lack of compassion, being overbearing, and the attachment to doing things.

Meng sometimes got angry and accused us of using her for our own selfish ends. Why did she feel that way? Through looking inward, we realized that whenever we explained something to her or asked her to sign something, we had a strong conviction that she needed to cooperate as we navigated the legal process, rather than prioritizing saving her. Once we identified this selfishness and changed our mindset, her attitude changed.

In the court session, the lawyer righteously presented a not-guilty defense, and the judge and procurator remained silent. With all the practitioners in the area sending forth righteous thoughts, Meng did a great job reading the defense statement. After the hearing, she was overjoyed and said, “You all were sending forth righteous thoughts, and that was so effective. The judge and procurator looked completely deflated. Thank you so much!” She also repeatedly thanked the lawyer.

As the case progressed, my thinking became increasingly clear. I realized that the process of using legal means to resist the persecution is a process of saving people.

Collecting Signatures Is Also a Process of Saving People

While the case was still in the investigation stage, a fellow practitioner described how Zhong followed Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in his daily life, and he got along well with his neighbors and coworkers. Therefore, this practitioner felt that we should collect signatures on a petition to help people understand the truth.

Four of us took on the effort of collecting signatures. It was in mid-November, and a heavy snowstorm hit, with snow piling up over a foot deep. All public transportation stopped and even walking was extremely difficult. The scene reminded me of Master Li’s poem “Plum Blossoms” in Hong Yin II, and righteous thoughts arose in my heart. We braved the cold, and walked through streets and alleys to find Zhong’s former neighbors, friends, and colleagues.

We told people about the persecution Zhong was facing and how the evil CCP didn’t care that his child was left without a father. Everyone was sympathetic and expressed outrage at the CCP’s actions. They said Zhong was a good person and shared examples of how he had selflessly helped them. His workplace supervisors also spoke highly of him. Everywhere we went, people signed and put their fingerprints on the petition.

We gathered 61 signatures in a day and a half. Whenever we encountered interference or couldn’t find people, we would recite the Fa for a while and look inward to see which of our human attachments were blocking people from being saved. Afterwards, the effort would go twice as smoothly. It was truly miraculous!

Closing Remarks

Each member of our rescue team contributed their strengths, and we were able to complete our tasks efficiently. Everyone was responsible and committed to fulfilling their part without complaint or regret. We continually rectified ourselves and always put saving people first.

Throughout the entire process, we experienced the madness of the battle between righteousness and wickedness. The lawyer’s righteous attitude, Meng’s upright behavior, and their courage in facing the police and judicial officials demonstrated Dafa’s mighty power. We truly felt that Master arranged everything in the best way.

Participating in this rescue effort had a profound impact on me. The selfless dedication of fellow practitioners, which embodied compassion and righteous actions, made me see my own shortcomings. Although I lack special skills, I’ve learned how to support the effort by arranging meetings with family members, sending righteous thoughts, and mailing legal documents.

I used to feel that I was not very useful, but fellow practitioners kept encouraging me. “We are one body,” they said. “There’s no such thing as a minor or major role. Everyone is important. You can definitely do it!” I now have a better understanding of the urgency of saving people.

With the imminent approach of the Fa rectification of the human world, little time is left. I must be even more determined to cooperate as one body to save more people, break through my human notions, and walk my path well in order to fulfill the prehistoric vow I once made.

If anything is not in accordance with the Fa, please kindly point it out.
