(Minghui.org) A 63-year-old woman in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, was recently sentenced to three years and ten months for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Yu Chunyan’s wrongful conviction stemmed from a police sweep on April 9, 2025. Officers from the Sartu District Police Station broke in her home that day and confiscated her computer, printer, and other personal items. She and three other female practitioners who happened to be visiting her were all arrested.

Also arrested on the same day were four other practitioners, including Guo Min, in her 60s; Ms. Zhang Baorong, in her 80s; Ms. Shi Li, in her 50s; and Ms. Jiang, whose first name is unknown. The police claimed that they had been monitoring the practitioners for a long time before the arrests.

Ms. Zhang experienced a severe medical episode during her arrest and was taken to the hospital. She and six others were soon released; Ms. Yu was admitted to the Daqing City Detention Center.

Ms. Yu was later indicted by the Ranghulu District Procuratorate and convicted by the Ranghulu District Court around late October 2025. Both the Ranghulu District Procuratorate and Ranghulu District Court are designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the greater Daqing region. Ms. Yu is still held at the detention center now.

This is the second time that Ms. Yu has been sentenced by the Ranghulu District Court. She was previously arrested at her family-run restaurant on October 20, 2006 and her home was ransacked. As she refused to reveal where she got the Falun Gong books and informational materials confiscated from her home, the police force-fed her chili water. She held a hunger strike during the five-month detention at the Daqing City Detention Center and was again force-fed. She was later sentenced to three years and transferred to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison.
