(Minghui.org) Two women in Urumqi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, became incapacitated while detained for their faith in Falun Gong, and the authorities threatened to give them at least three years of prison sentence.
Ms. Pan Xiuhua, 71, and Ms. Luo Chuanmei were deceived into reporting to the Xinshi District Police Department in early March 2025. They were arrested on arrival and taken to the Urumqi Fourth Detention Center. The police targeted them after receiving a tip that they had talked to people about Falun Gong months earlier.
Due to the abuse in custody, both women became unable to walk or stand. They were very weak. Ms. Pan was given a wheelchair to get around. It is unclear whether Ms. Luo was offered any assistance.
This is not the first time that both women have been targeted for their faith. Ms. Luo was given an unknown term of forced labor in November 2000. After another arrest on March 8, 2006, she was secretly sentenced to an unknown prison term.
Ms. Pan’s husband was forced to divorce her after the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999. She was arrested on February 3, 2007, and sentenced to three years on June 18, 2007. She was admitted to the Xinjiang Women’s Prison around October 2007. She was punched and kicked numerous times for refusing to answer the roll call. She went on a hunger strike in protest and was brutally force-fed. After another arrest in 2011, she was given one and a half years of forced labor on November 1 that year.
Ms. Pan was arrested again on June 28, 2014, and stood trial on April 10, 2015. See the first related report for details of her trial. It is unclear what verdict she received.
Ms. Pan’s next arrest was on May 26, 2017, with her sentenced to three and a half years in December that year by the Midong District Court.
