My Daughter’s Experience of Eliminating the Addiction to Her Mobile Phone

Nov. 15, 2025 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) My daughter used to be addicted to her mobile phone. It took her three hours to finish her homework when it should have taken much less time. She stayed up late, and felt lethargic and unmotivated the next day. Being constantly on the phone drained her energy.

She scrolled through short videos and chatted on the phone on the weekends, so she couldn’t do the things that she planned to do. Her grades slipped.

My daughter was irritated every time I asked her to study the Fa with me. She told me, “Mom! I know Dafa is good, and I want to learn it. But I just find it boring and can’t stick to it. Moreover, there’s a force that takes over me every single time.” She was remorseful about it and blamed herself, which amplified her feelings of inferiority, making her more irritable and prone to outbursts.

Since she couldn’t break the habit on her own, I took her phone away. Afterwards, she fell asleep every night listening to the Minghui Radio program, “Remembering Our Teacher.”

Her phone addiction diminished two weeks later, and she realized how important Falun Dafa is. She also became aware of the mobile phone’s harmful effects. I asked her to study the Fa with me, and she gladly agreed. She said, “Mom, I’ve been wanting to study the Fa and do the exercises with you for days.”

As the days went by, her negative emotions stemming from the phone addiction vanished, and were replaced by positive energy. She was able to finish her homework in about an hour. She went to bed earlier, got enough sleep, and was more attentive in class the next day. Her exam scores improved.

Most importantly, her feelings of inferiority diminished significantly, and she smiled every day. She told me, “Mom, you were right. Life without a phone is joyful. I feel more confident, fulfilled, and grounded. I don’t want a phone anymore.”

After seeing my daughter’s transformation, I’ve come to understand the immense harm mobile phones can cause. Not only can they lead people to waste their time on trivial things and diminish their motivation, but worse yet, they can erode their righteous thoughts and faith. Over time, an obsession with mobile phones can breed despondency and increase negative emotions. In some cases, they can even break one’s spirit, leading to severe psychological issues. We should definitely break free from our mobile phones and find our true selves.
