Ms. Hu Baozhen, of Sanhe City, Hebei Province, died on January 12, 2011, after suffering years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong. She was 58.
Ms. Hu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000 and was escorted back to Sanhe. The police handcuffed her so tight that she passed out due to the pain. She was detained at the Sanhe City Detention Center for an unknown amount of time.
Ms. Hu, her husband Mr. Zhang Deli and mother in her 70s were taken to a brainwashing center right after the Chinese New Year in January 2001. They were forced to watch propaganda videos smearing Falun Gong. They held a hunger strike to protest and were released 40 days later.
The police broke into Ms. Hu’s home on February 25, 2006 and arrested her husband and second son. Ms. Hu escaped the arrest as she wasn’t home. To avoid the persecution, she was forced to live away from home for over two years. During the time, the police often went to her home to look for her.
After she returned home, the police continued to harass her on a regular basis. The mental pressure of the persecution took a toll on her health. She passed away on January 12, 2011.
