Ms. Li Fengxia in her younger years
Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in early 2000. She was arrested and escorted back to Sanhe. The police first gave her 30 days at the Sanhe Detention Center and then extended the detention by 15 days due to the communist regime’s annual political meetings.
Following another arrest in April 2000 for going to the Beijing Military Museum to clarify the facts about Falun Gong regarding a defamatory exhibition, Ms. Li was handcuffed to a utility pole for hours. The police chief Huang Yi grabbed her by her hair and pushed her to the ground. When she refused to verbally abuse Falun Gong’s founder, Huang shocked her with electric batons. Huang also ordered her to kneel, stomped on her ankle, and whipped her thighs with his leather belt, while she was only allowed to wear her undergarments. Huang beat her so hard that the leather belt broke into pieces. Huang then beat her with hemp twine. The beating didn’t stop until 3 a.m. The police handcuffed her to a bed until dawn and took her to the detention center for 30 days.
Ms. Li was arrested again on May 11, 2001 for visiting a practitioner and was detained for nearly two weeks.
In summary, between January and August 2000, Ms. Li was arrested five times, detained for a total of 60 days and fined twice for a total of 3,000 yuan.
The police made another attempt to arrest Ms. Li in the summer of 2001. She escaped. They arrested her husband instead and detained him for 15 days. Her 16-year-old son was also expelled by the Sanhe City First Middle School.
Ms. Li was arrested at home on February 24, 2003 and taken to the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp the next day to serve a two-year term. The police continued to harass her after she was released.
Succumbing to years of persecution, she suddenly died on October 26, 2019.
