(Minghui.org) A Qianjiang City, Hubei Province resident is facing prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. You Xuefei, in her 60s, was arrested in late 2021 after being reported for spreading information about Falun Gong. Although the police released her on bail a week later, they arrested her again in early 2022 and have held her at the Qianjiang City Detention Center since then.
When Ms. You’s mother went to the Qianjiang City Procuratorate on May 10 to inquire about her case, she was told that the prosecutor was still investigating her case. If she planned to hire a lawyer for Ms. You, the lawyer must receive approval from his or her local justice bureau to represent a Falun Gong practitioner.
Ms. You is currently sharing a cell of less than 300 square feet with over ten detainees. Except for one free hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon to take showers and do laundry, they had to stay in the cell most of the day. With poor air flow, the room was always smelly. The food provided by the detention center was very poor and detainees had to buy extra food themselves.
Guards Min Dongrong and Zhou Yan appointed inmates, who bribed them to manage the cells, including arranging shifts to clean the cell or wash the dishes.
