(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 19 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 44 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Miao Xiangqun, who has been repeatedly harassed by the local police, left her home to avoid being persecuted.
At 5 or 6 p.m. on August 3, 2022, several plainclothes officers waited in the alley opposite Ms. Miao’s house. Around 8 or 9 p.m. two police officers went to the entrance of the alley that led to her home, and a police car parked across the road. At around 10 p.m. about four officers gathered outside her home. One officer started knocking on her door. Ms. Miao and her daughter were at home, but they did not open the door.
Ms. Miao Xiangqun is the younger sister of Ms. Miao Yingqun. The two sisters have been repeatedly persecuted. The most recent instance was on February 7, 2022, when officers from the Chengguan Police Station broke into her house and arrested Ms. Miao Yingqun, and took her to the No. 1 Detention Center in Qinhuangdao City. On March 16, the Procuratorate decided not to approve the arrest, and Ms. Miao Yingqun was released on bail.
Ms. Liu Chang’e was sentenced to four years and three months in prison in July 2022. Due to the pandemic, she and Mr. Hu Deyuan have not been taken to the prison for the time being and are still being held in the Yingtan City Detention Center.
Zhang Bing (gender unknown) was arrested and taken to the Changsha City No. 4 Detention Center by officers from the Yuhua District Domestic Security Division on October 9, 2021, where Zhang was held for over ten days.
After staying at home for some time, Zhang was arrested at home by Domestic Security officers. Zhang’s current whereabouts are unknown. Six months later it was reported that Zhang was arrested by Domestic Security officers from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, and taken to Shenyang. An arrest warrant has been issued in Shenyang for Zhang’s arrest.
Mr. Li Jianxi, a doctor at the Danhao Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, was officially placed under arrest by the Jimei District Procuratorate on August 10, 2022.
Ms. Li Chuanfang, 68, from Yishui County, was arrested at home by officers from Luozhuang City on August 5, 2022. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books. Ms. Li’s husband returned home after work and saw that it was a mess. The following day, Ms. Li’s husband received a phone call and was told to go to the police station to sign paperwork. When he went there, the guard said that no one by his wife’s name was there, and Ms. Li’s whereabouts are still unknown.
Four or five officers from the Jiuliti Police Station broke into Ms. Luo Chuan’s home and arrested her at around 10 a.m. on August 9, 2022. They confiscated Falun Gong books, a laptop computer, and a tablet notepad. Ms. Luo’s daughter was also taken to the police station and was released after 4 p.m. that day.
Ms. Luo was previously arrested on October 2, 2019, and sentenced to one year in prison.
Mr. Xia Hongmin, 66, was arrested at work by officers from the Yongyang Town Police Station on the morning of July 9, 2022. He was taken to the Laishui County Detention Center. After the 15-day detention period ended, instead of releasing him, the detention center and Hujiazhuang Police Station collaborated in handling his case and decided to extend his detention period for another 11 days. They also imposed a fine of 600 yuan. On August 2, the 10th day of the extended detention period, two plainclothes men, who claimed to be police officers, went to his home. They did not present any paperwork. They ransacked the place and video-recorded the proceedings. They did not find anything they were looking for.
On August 3, the final day of the extended 11-day period, the detention center did not release Mr. Xia. Four plainclothes officers took him directly to the Laishui County Lockup Center, where he has since been held.
Mr. Xia’s family has now received a notice that Mr. Xia was placed under criminal detention.
On July 11, 2022, the Qitaihe City Police Department, in a coordinated campaign, arrested over 20 practitioners. More than twelve practitioners have returned home.
There are still ten practitioners remaining in custody at the Qitaihe Detention Center: Ms. Li Li, Ms. Zou Yunlan, Ms. Li Shaojuan, Mr. Zhang Guangcai, Ms. Guo Chunling, Ms. Zhang Chunfeng, Ms. Yuan Mei’e, Ms. Wen Yanhua, Ms. Guan Hongyan, and Ms. Zhang Shuli.
Ms. Wang Jinfeng will be tried via video link by the Yuhong District Court at 9 a.m. on August 12, 2022.
Ms. Wang Jinfeng’s “personal statement,” previously submitted by her relative who acted as her defender, was not accepted by judge Jiang Nai. In the statement, Ms. Wang made it clear that she refused a video trial, refused to accept any lawyer appointed by the court, and insisted on having her relative as her defender. Judge Jiang Nai denied her relative’s legal rights to defend her as family or friend.
Around 30 people from the Pengzhou City 610 Office and the Mengyang Town 610 Office surrounded Ms. Ai Kexiu’s house at 8 a.m. on August 4, 2022. Two SWAT officers kicked down the back door to break into her home. The others rushed in and confiscated three jukeboxes, a small TV, a video player, two photos of the founder of Falun Gong, couplets, and printed materials. They pressured Ms. Ai to sign paperwork, but she did not cooperate. They took Ms. Ai, in her 60s, to the Mengyang Town Police Station, where she was pressured to sign paperwork. She was released eight hours later.
Mr. Ma Jiang was reported to the police while distributing Falun Gong materials in the Shenhe District on July 22, 2022. His home was ransacked by officers from the Shenhe District. Details are pending.
Ms. Bian Aina was arrested by local Domestic Security officers and police officers on August 9, 2015, for suing Jiang Zemin, former Chinese Communist Party head who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and held in the Shenyang City Women’s Prison. Her husband Mr. Lou Yuejun was also arrested at the same time. He was released on June 9, 2022.
Ms. Bian’s family recently requested to visit her and talk to her over the phone, but the reception staff in the prison duty room made up excuses to deny their requests.
Mr. Feng Shanghao from the Fengjiazhuang Village was arrested by officers from the Andi Police Station on August 9, 2022. He was released that afternoon.
Director Liu Chun of the Xinxing Township Police Station in the Shuangcheng District went with other officers to Ms. Chen Chunling’s home in the Xinsheng Village on July 9, 2022. They threatened her, but left when she strongly resisted.
Four officers including Liu Chunwu went to Ms. Jiang Shuyun’s home in Xinhong Village at 11 a.m. on July 11, 2022. They took Ms. Jiang to the Shuangcheng District Police Department and forcibly took her fingerprints. Ms. Jiang was picked up by her family after 5 p.m. The officers then went to practitioner He Yaqing’s home in Xinmin Village, but did not find He.
Officers from the Yongqing Road Police Station in Licang District, followed the address on an invoice in a stolen bag, which contained truth-clarification materials, and went to the Qingdao Thermal Power Company on the afternoon of August 8, 2022. They arrested Mr. Huang Kexi, and then ransacked his home. Mr. Huang is being held in the Dashan Detention Center, and family visits have been denied.
Mr. Huang’s wife is unemployed, has no income, and suffers from illnesses. Their daughter is in high school and the family no longer has any source of income. The mother and daughter are in distress as they have nowhere to petition for help.
Officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Linghe Police Department broke into Ms. Pi Dianfen’s home in the Hupanjiayuan Residential Community at 3 p.m. on August 4, 2022. They arrested Ms. Pi, Ms. Lian Aihua, and Ms. Jin Yu who were reading the Fa together. They also confiscated Falun Gong books, photos of the founder of Falun Gong, and printed materials.
Ms. Pi’s non-practitioner husband is seriously ill, bedridden, and in need of care. Ms. Pi was given 15 days of detention which she did not have to serve. She has returned home. Ms. Lian’s and Ms. Jin’s whereabouts are unknown.
Five officers from the Huanxi Township Police Station in the Chuanying District went to Ms. Wang Ruifen’s home and knocked on the door. One officer jumped over the wall into the yard, knocked on the window, and flashed a flashlight.
Ms. Wang went to open the door. Five people entered the house and began to ransack it. One person jumped on top of the brick bed and tore off the New Year paintings on the wall. The others went to the east and west rooms looking for Falun Gong items. They confiscated amulets, MP3 audio players, and New Year paintings, and took them to the car.
They told Ms. Wang not to go to sleep, as they would come back later to get her to sign paperwork. One officer sat outside her home to keep an eye on her.
The other people drove to Mr. Gong Yunsheng’s home and knocked on the door, entered his home, and harassed him.
They then returned to Ms. Wang’s home. Four officers asked for Ms. Wang’s personal information while taking notes and recording the proceedings. They ordered Ms. Wang to sign paperwork, which she refused to do. They then told Ms. Wang’s non-practitioner husband to sign it. After midnight, Ms. Wang’s husband reluctantly signed Ms. Wang’s name and his own name and gave his fingerprint before the officers left. The next day, they went to Ms. Wang’s home again to demand their signatures. The couple refused to comply and instead drove them away.
Police officers ransacked Mr. Wu Zhiming’s home on the afternoon of July 27, 2022, and even tore up paper couplets on the door with the word “Blissfulness.” Later, when Mr. Wu’s family received a courier package from the Shunyi Detention Center, they learned that he was being held there.
Officers from the Xin’an Police Station broke into Ms. Ma Jie’s home on the evening of July 19, 2022. They confiscated Falun Gong books and photos of the founder of Falun Gong. Ms. Ma’s husband was arrested and released at 4 or 5 p.m. the following day. He was fined 1,000 yuan and given 15 days of detention, which he has not served due to the pandemic.
Residents in the neighborhood were having PCR tests on the morning of August 7. The officers broke into Ms. Ma Jie’s house again. They even rummaged through Ms. Ma’s wallet, and then took her to the police station. She was released in the afternoon. She was given ten days of detention, which will be implemented after the pandemic is over.
Ms. Sui Jinghua and her husband Mr. Wang Fubin from Taipinggou Village have been harassed since August 1, 2022. They were pressured to write the three statements. They left home and became displaced. The officials ordered neighbors to keep an eye on Ms. Sui’s home and to report to the authorities as soon as they saw the couple.
Over ten people broke into Ms. Wang Yanxia’s home in Dalaowo Village on August 1. They pressured Ms. Wang to sign paperwork and videotaped her. Before they left, they said that they would return the following day, as Ms. Wang’s signature did not meet their requirement. Ms. Wang has left home to avoid further persecution.
Ms. Wang Yanqiu from the No. 4 Group in Pinggang Village was harassed over the phone on August 2-5. The caller ordered her to sign paperwork and told her that her name was on the list circulated by the provincial authorities.
Long Nengying went to the Yuqingxu farmers market on July 31, 2022 and handed out Falun Gong materials that he/she picked up from the ground. Long was reported to the police, and was arrested and interrogated by officers from Yuqing Township Police Station. Long was released that day.
Someone from the Development Zone went to look for Ms. Fan, who is about 50 years old, in late June 2022. Ms. Fan’s family said that she was arrested by the police more than ten days before.
Three practitioners in Yongquan Township were arrested on June 16, 2022. Among them, Ms. Tong Yinping and Mr. Li Yilong went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. After failing the physical examination, the detention center refused to admit them and they returned home on bail. Ms. Tong Jinping is still being held in the Jiujiang City Detention Center. Xiong, head of the Ruichang City Domestic Security Division, has been arrogant and insisted on not releasing her. Detention center guards refused to accept the clothes sent by her family.
Also being held in Jiujiang City Detention Center are practitioners Ms. Zhou Meili, Ms. Guo Xiurong, and Ms. Li Ping.
