(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old woman is being abused while serving a 3.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Lang Zhuying, of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, was arrested on a bus on July 24, 2019, when the security personnel found she is a Falun Gong practitioner by scanning her ID in the middle of the ride. Due to her high blood pressure, the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center refused to accept her. The police held her at the Chengguan Police Station overnight. She held a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
Ms. Lang’s daughter went to the police station to demand her release the next day. The police ordered her to monitor Ms. Lang’s daily life and not allow her to go out. Her daughter refused to comply. The police then ransacked their home. The police made another attempt to take Ms. Lang to the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center on July 26 and the guards accepted her this time.
Ms. Lang was secretly tried on November 19, 2019. Her family was kept in the dark about her case status. They only learned later that she was sentenced to 3.5 years in the Hebei Province Women’s Prison and it’s unclear when she was taken to the prison.
It was confirmed by Minghui.org on June 20, 2022, that because Ms. Lang held fast to Falun Gong and refused to wear the inmate’s name tag, the guards ordered the inmates to torture her. Her family refused to make cash deposits for her so she was unable to buy daily necessities. With no toilet paper, she had to wipe herself with her hands after using the restroom.
Before taking up Falun Gong, Ms. Lang had a bad temper and often suffered from insomnia. After she took up Falun Gong in October 1997, her health improved and she became much more considerate of others.
Because of not renouncing Falun Gong in the past 23 years, she was incarcerated multiple times, including in a detention center and brainwashing centers. She was once forced to sit on a cold metal chair in the winter for over 50 days, which caused her menstrual period to stop. She was also force-fed and forced to stand for long hours, which caused her legs and feet to become severely swollen.
Terrified by the police harassment, her mother passed away in March 2007.
Prior to her latest prison sentence, Ms. Lang was sentenced to three years by the Lulong County Court in March 2016 and taken to the Hebei Province Women’s Prison on June 2, 2016.
