Woman Recounts Chilling Torture in the Notorious Liaoning Province Women’s Prison

June 23, 2022 |   By Xin Shuhua, a Falun Gong practitioner in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Since the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, the authorities at Liaoning Province Women’s Prison have been actively torturing practitioners imprisoned there.

Below, Ms. Xin Shuhua recounts the torture she endured while serving three years and three months in Liaoning Prison for practicing Falun Gong.

I was arrested on August 16, 2018, for talking to people about Falun Gong. I was sentenced to three years and three months and held at the 11th ward for the elderly and disabled in Liaoning Province Women’s Prison.

Guards Su, Cai, Xie, and Li ordered the inmates to monitor Falun Gong practitioners around the clock. We weren’t allowed to do the Falun Gong exercises or sit in the lotus position.

Inmates Li Huidong and Li Xiulan often starved me and didn’t let me drink water. I was also deprived of sleep and denied restroom use. I was beaten and verbally abused on a regular basis.

In 2020, the guards instigated inmates Sun Lizhi and Fan Guizhi to rub my neck with broken pieces of a plastic bowl. They pulled out my hair and didn’t let me sleep or use the restroom for three days.

Because I refused to renounce Falun Gong, I was also subjected to the extreme stretching torture for over two months.

I was nearly 170 pounds when I was arrested. By the time I was released, I was merely 100 pounds. My teeth fell out and I had difficulty standing on my own.

According to an inmate, the solitary confinement cell was full of Falun Gong practitioners. They weren’t allowed to lie down or sit in chairs. Some had their clothes stripped off and were humiliated. The guards often took them out in groups to collect their fingerprints and order them to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong.

An inmate also told me that one practitioner was wrapped in a comforter after she was beaten. An inmate then sat on her and suffocated her to death. The guards and the inmate kept her death a secret and didn’t let anyone ask about it.

In early April 2021, another practitioner, Ms. Song Shujuan, ended up in critical condition as a result of the torture. She was resuscitated in the hospital but died a few days after she was taken back to the prison.

As far as I know, the inmates who were involved in torturing detained practitioners included Wu Tong, Li Xiaofang, Sun Luoyan, Zhang Yanqing, Tian Guiju, Yi Binghua, Liu Tingli, Fan Shuzhen, Sun Hui, Yu Shuqin, Wang Fenghua, Xin Hong, and Zhi Zhaowen, in addition to the four I mentioned above.

During my imprisonment between 2018 and 2021, most of the inmates were forced to make crafts every day. The guards beat the inmates and practitioners alike if they slowed down even a little. Everyone appeared to be very nervous and fearful.

The food we were given was extremely poor. The soup contained only a few rotten leaves or the stems of some green vegetables and was very dark. The cornbread was not fully cooked and had mold on it.

Some of the guards added unknown drugs to the practitioners’ food. They labeled the drugs 1 through 8 and called them “Energy Elimination Drugs.” I was given numbers 2, 4, and 8. They had a strong taste in the food.

I once heard one guard ask another what the drugs did to us. The guard who added the drugs to our food replied, “If we give them a small amount, they feel weak and lack strength. If we use more, they lose their memory. If we add even more, they can die.”
