(Minghui.org) A Dumeng County, Heilongjiang Province resident was taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison in March 2022 to serve a three-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Liu Shuping, 59, was laid off by the school she worked at as a teacher in 1996. The financial constraint caused her much distress. She became short-tempered and developed many ailments, including a heart condition, lumbar disc herniation and inflammation of the bladder. Unable to afford to see a doctor, she painfully endured as time went on.
A friend introduced Falun Gong to Ms. Liu on September 3, 2009. The teachings of Falun Gong opened her mind and helped her gain a new outlook on life. Her ailments disappeared one after another. She found a job to care for the elderly. Her family was happy for the extra income and also for her positive changes.
In her spare time, Ms. Liu began to distribute information about Falun Gong and the persecution, hoping more people could benefit from the practice as she had. Her courageous efforts resulted in several arrests and eventually a prison sentence.
Ms. Liu was arrested on February 5, 2020, after the police suspected her of putting up banners about Falun Gong. The police took her keys and confiscated her Falun Gong books. She was taken to the Daqing City Detention Center the next day, but was refused admission due to her physical condition and released in the afternoon.
Three other practitioners and a practitioner’s nephew were also arrested on the same day. Two of them, Ms. Yang Haixia and Ms. Li Shuchun, were later sentenced to seven and five years respectively. Both were taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on January 7, 2022.
Ms. Liu was taken back into custody in April 2021. As she was living on her own, details of her latest arrest weren’t known. It’s only when a friend visited her and saw her door sealed by the police, did she realize that Ms. Liu had been arrested.
It was confirmed by Minghui.org in November 2021 that Ms. Liu was held at the Longfeng No. 2 Detention Center after her arrest. She was later sentenced to three years and taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison in March 2022.
