(Minghui.org) A Huangshi City, Hubei Province resident in his 70s was recently sentenced to one year and three months with a 6,000 yuan fine for practicing Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Cen Xuedong’s family applied to have him serve time at home due to his advanced age, but they were rejected by the authorities with the excuse that he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
Mr. Cen and his wife Ms. Chen Aifang, nearly 70, were arrested at home on August 19, 2021. The police confiscated their Falun Gong books, 30,000 yuan in cash and other personal belongings. The police also ransacked their son’s home, confiscating two computers from Mr. Cen’s grandson. They also forced Mr. Cen’s son to sign the confiscation list. It’s been reported that the police and community committee staff members monitored Mr. Cen for a week before arresting him.
Mr. Cen was held at the Huangshi City No.1 Detention Center. Ms. Chen was detained at a brainwashing center located in a hotel. She was forced to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong and released on September 2, 2021.
Mr. Cen was taken to a brainwashing center on September 18. He developed a severe medical condition and was released. Shortly after he recovered, the police took him back to the Huangshi City No.1 Detention Center.
Mr. Cen appeared in court on March 16, 2022 and was recently sentenced. His family hasn’t received a copy of his verdict. He is still at the Huangshi City No.1 Detention Center at the time of writing.
Prior to his latest sentencing, he served one year at the Shayang Forced Labor Camp for practicing Falun Gong.
