(Minghui.org) “Hero detective” and “Excellent civil servant” are some of the honors that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) awarded Zhao Anliang, a senior sergeant of Taoshan Criminal Investigation Brigade in Qitaihe City Police Department, Heilongjiang Province. But these titles failed to mention how Zhao and other police officers persecuted innocent Falun Gong practitioners with advanced technology.
Qitaihe, a city in east Heilongjiang Province, is one of the places in China where Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted the most for their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. According to statistics compiled by Minghui, at least 20 Falun Gong practitioners in Qitaihe had lost their lives since the CCP launched the persecution in July 1999. Zhao and other police officers played an important role in monitoring and tracking practitioners, resulting in their arrests and eventual death as a result of the persecution.
After graduating from Heilongjiang Police Academy in September 1999, Zhao worked in Xinxing Criminal Investigation Brigade. Later on he was moved to Taoshan Criminal Investigation Brigade, where he was a staff member, vice captain, political head, and level 4 senior sergeant.
The criminal investigation brigade Zhao worked in was responsible for monitoring practitioners’ landline phone, cell phone, and internet. Both audio tracking and video surveillance were used. Staff members collected information on practitioners, including those who were forced to stay away from home, and provided it to other departments, which then made arrests of the practitioners. In addition to working together with other police officers in Qitaihe City, Zhao was also one of the first batch of criminal lie detection experts in Heilongjiang Police Department.
Zhao met with consequences in October 2012, when a criminal hit him on the head with a wooden stick. He suffered skull fractures and massive intracranial hemorrhage. He died in August 2022.
Similar stories also happened in other provinces. Lu Chunjun, political leader of Mengguying Police Station in Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, also received numerous awards, including “Excellent civil servant.”
After beginning to work as a police officer in February 1998, Lu had worked at Jiangjiawopu Police Station and Baishi Police Station. Later on, he became deputy director of Dongying Police Station, political leader of Taiji Police Station, and then political leader of Mengguying Police Station.
During his tenure, Lu was involved in numerous arrests of Falun Gong practitioners. On April 27, 2013, he and other officers from Jiangjiawopu Police Station went to raid practitioner Ms. Cheng Xiangqin’s home. They arrested her and kept her at a detention center.
Because of his critical roles in arresting Falun Gong practitioners, Lu received many awards. But he met with fate on August 11, 2022, when he had a heart attack and died hours later. He was 47.
The Chinese Constitution grants citizens the right to freedom of belief. Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance have benefited tens of millions of practitioners in China. But some CCP officials chose to blindly follow the persecution policy, which caused immeasurable pain to practitioners’ families and cast a gloomy future for themselves.
