(Minghui.org) Two Anshan City, Liaoning Province residents were recently sentenced to 3.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Yunkun, 69, and Ms. Liu Suzhi, 65, were arrested on January 4, 2022, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Both women were placed under criminal detention and their arrests were approved on January 18.
After a hearing on August 10, the Lishan District Court sentenced both Ms. Liu and Ms. Zhang to 3.5 years around late September.
Prior to their latest sentencing, both Ms. Liu and Ms. Zhang have been repeatedly targeted for their faith.
Ms. Liu was previously thrice sentenced to a total of 13 years. While serving time, she was constantly beaten, deprived of sleep and shocked with electric batons.
Ms. Zhang was arrested in 1999 and 2001 for going to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was detained for 15 days after the first arrest and given 1.5 years of forced labor after the second arrest.
Ms. Zhang was arrested again in 2003 for talking to people about Falun Gong and given another three years of forced labor.
Her next arrest was in April 2014, for giving out a DVD with information about Falun Gong. The Tiedong District Court secretly sentenced her to four years.
