Three Elderly Guangdong Women Targeted for Telling People about Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) For telling people about the health benefits of Falun Gong, three elderly women in Shantou City, Guangdong Province were targeted by the authorities. One was held in custody for one night, the second woman has been detained for a month, and the third one has been sentenced.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wang Yaolian, 78, was arrested by officers from the Waisha Police Station and detained for 24 hours. The police called her son Mr. Huang Zaibin and asked him to take her home. The date of her arrest isn’t clear.

Ms. Cai Xiuhua, 77, rode in her son’s car and put up posters about Falun Gong around town on August 16, 2021. A person took a photo of her son’s license plate and reported them to the Chenghai District Domestic Security Office. Dozens of officers first arrested her son Mr. Wang Jianshu and ransacked his home. He was held at the Domestic Security Office for one day and then released. Ms. Cai was later arrested and has since been held at the Chenghai District Detention Center.

Ms. Cai Yuchang, in her late 60s, was arrested on December 12, 2020 after being reported for talking to a person at a supermarket about Falun Gong. She was arrested by officers from the Waisha Police Station and her home was ransacked. She was detained at Tupu Detention Center. The Jinping District Court held a virtual hearing on August 10, 2021 and the presiding judge, Yang Junrong, sentenced her to 3.5 years in prison.
