(Minghui.org) My father is 87 years old. Having joined the Chinese Communist Party at the age of 18, he deemed himself an atheist and wasn’t interested in practicing Falun Dafa, although he saw how much my mother and I benefited from the practice.
In 2015, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have an operation to remove the tumor. This was a great risk for him because of his age. The doctor warned us that he might not survive the surgery. Even if he did, he might not wake up from the anesthesia.
Before the operation, I told my father to silently recite “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” whenever he was awake. He told me that he had been reciting it. He also took a Dafa keepsake with him into the operation room.
During the operation, my brother, my sister, and I waited nervously in the hallway. I told them to recite the auspicious phrases for our father together. Surprisingly, my sister, who had always been skeptical about spiritual practice due to the communist regime’s atheistic education, said to me, “Stop talking. I’m reciting!”
The operation was a success. My father woke up soon after it was over and answered all questions clearly. Even the doctor thought it was incredible.
My father recovered well. His mental state was very good. He did not feel any pain and could eat soon after. He did not have chemotherapy. Not long after the surgery, he could go out again. It is very rare for an octogenarian to recover so quickly from such a major operation.
My father knows it was Master Li, the founder of Falun Dafa, who saved him and he is sincerely thankful. To pay his respects to Master, he always puts food in front of Master’s photo before every meal.
One night in July 2020, my father’s stomach and abdomen started to hurt. He was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with gastrointestinal perforation. Pus had already filled his abdominal cavity. Since he’d had major surgery for cancer before, undergoing another operation was not an option. He would need drugs to resolve the infection and heal the perforation, which is very hard on someone that old.
We took my father to a bigger hospital in the city for better care. According to my brother, my father had a high fever and was in severe pain. Because he scratched himself due to the pain, he was tied down in a bed in the intensive care unit. His fever did not go away and his spirits were very low. Everyone did not feel any hope for him and worried that he might not be able to see my mother for the last time.
My brother even consulted the doctor who’d removed our father’s tumor. The doctor advised him to continue to have him treated because he was different from other people and the doctor was positive that he would make it again this time.
The doctor’s suggestion did cheer my father up. He started to recite aloud the auspicious phrases in the intensive care room. He said them so loudly that my brother had to tell him to just recite them to himself.
Three days later, my brother called us in the morning and told us that Father was dying and would have to go home. But that afternoon he called again, saying, “Dad’s fever dropped and his condition has improved. It is because of Dafa!”
My brother called again on the fourth day and told us, “Dad had a bowel movement. The doctor said that indicates that the perforation is healing. He was moved to the general ward and can check out of the hospital in two days.”
We were all happy that our father survived another life and death tribulation. He came home two days later.
My father is very healthy now, except for occasional minor pains in his legs and back. He sincerely recites the auspicious phrases every day and knows that Falun Dafa is truly great!
