Belated News: Beijing Woman Dies After Three Labor Camp Terms

June 20, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Beijing, China

(Minghui.org) A resident of Beijing died on May 21, 2018 after serving three labor camp terms and enduring long-term harassment for her faith in Falun Gong. She was 63 years old.

Ms. Tan Daoling took up Falun Gong in September 1997. After the Chinese communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline, in July 1999, she went to Tiananmen Square to speak up for Falun Gong and was arrested. She would later be arrested ten more times.

In the middle of one night in 2002, the police scaled the fence, broke into Ms. Tan’s home, and arrested her. She was given one year of forced labor.

After she was released, the police harassed and monitored her around major political events and anniversaries related to Falun Gong.

Ms. Tan was given two back-to-back 2.5-year labor camp terms, from September 20, 2006 to March 19, 2009, and from September 21, 2009 to March 20, 2012.

She suffered a stroke and developed Parkinson’s disease during her third term. After she was released, the police continued to harass her, and her family blocked her from practicing Falun Gong again – all of which caused tremendous mental distress in her. After struggling with declining health for six years, Ms. Tan died on May 21, 2018.
