Chongqing Residents Harassed for Their Faith, One Woman in Her 80s Forced into Homelessness by Her Son

March 25, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Chongqing, China

(Minghui.org) Ten Chongqing residents were targeted by the police and residential committee staff members between July and December 2020 for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. When the practitioners refused to renounce their faith, the police turned their family members against them in their attempts to pressure the practitioners.

Those arrested are Ms. Yu Xia, Ms. Ma Yixian, Ms. Zhu Yugui (in her 80s), Ms. Hu Mingjiao, Ms. Huang Dingyuan (in her 80s), Zhang Ruiying, Li Xiangdong, Dai Liwen, Wen Xiaoshu, and Li Zemin.

Below are the details of four of them.

Ms. Yu Xia

Ms. Yu Xia was arrested in July 2020. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her computer and other personal belongings. The authorities refuse to tell her family where she is being detained, leaving them very worried about her safety.

Ms. Zhu Yugui

Police officers and residential committee staff members stopped Ms. Zhu Yugui on the street in October 2020 and told her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. When she refused, the residential committee staff members went to her home to harass her, but she refused to open the door.

A few days later, the officials forced her son to take off from work and opened the door for them. When Ms. Zhu still refused to renounce Falun Gong, the officials ordered her son to disown his mother. They also threatened that her son would lose his job if Ms. Zhu didn’t renounce Falun Gong. Fearing being implicated, her son forced her to move out. Now Ms. Zhu, in her 80s, has no place to live.

Ms. Hu Mingjiao

Ms. Hu Mingjiao, a native of Sichuan Province, moved to Chongqing a few years ago. In November 2020, she went to the police station and asked to change the address on her household registration. The police ordered her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong as a prerequisite to processing her request. When she refused to comply, the police arrested her and took her to a brainwashing center.

In the brainwashing center, Ms. Hu was forced to watch slanderous videos about Falun Gong every day. The police also found her mother, in her 90s, and her husband. They told them to kneel in front of her and beg her to write the statement. They said to her, “If you don’t write it, we won’t get up.” It’s not clear whether Ms. Hu complied.

Ms. Ma Yixian

Several residential committee members harassed Ms. Ma Yixian, 70, in December 2020 and told her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. Ms. Ma refused to comply and tried to clarify the facts about Falun Gong. The officials didn’t listen and said, “We will post ourselves outside your home every day and follow you wherever you go.” The harassment lasted for a week.

A dozen police officers and a few residential committee staff members knocked on Ms. Ma’s door again in mid-December. When she refused to open up, the police found a locksmith. Just as the locksmith was about to unlock the door, Ms. Ma yanked it open and dashed out in an attempt to escape, but the police seized her.
