Woman in Her 70s Detained for Two Weeks and Counting, Faces Prosecution for Her Faith

Feb. 15, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in her 70s has been detained for two weeks and is now facing indictment for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Someone knocked on Ms. Zhou Xiuhua’s door at 6 a.m. on July 15, 2020. Her husband opened it, and 30 plainclothes officers barged.

Seeing Falun Gong informational materials, the officers began to search the place. She argued that it was illegal for them to search their home without a warrant, but they arrested her and took her to the local police station. Her husband, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, was also seized.

Without the couple’s presence, the police confiscated Ms. Zhou’s Falun Gong books, a photo of Falun Gong’s founder, a printer, and cash.

When the police released Ms. Zhou and her husband the next day, they kept her husband’s keys. The police also said that they already knew what the couple did every day, including when they ate or went to bed.

Ms. Zhou was terrified by the arrest and saddened by the confiscation of her Falun Gong books. She cried for several days.

One day, after she and her husband returned home from a walk, she noticed that two flash-drives on her desk were missing. She suspected that the police had taken them while they were out. Meanwhile, the police ordered Ms. Zhou to report to them once every week. They later put her on one-year bail.

Ms. Zhou went to the police station and police department several times, trying to explain to them that the persecution was illegal. The police refused to listen and sometimes wouldn't let her in.

On December 17, 2020, Ms. Zhou was informed that the police had submitted her case to the procuratorate on the 15th. They summoned her to the police station on January 28, 2021, and forced the Erzhigou Detention Center to accept her, even though she failed the required physical four times.

The Dongxihu District Procuratorate is now refusing to admit her family when they appear to inquire about her case.
