Feb. 11, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old Wuhan City, Hubei Province resident was sentenced to 3.5 years in November 2020 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Ms. Tang Changjun is currently held in a police hospital and denied family visits.

Ms. Tang was arrested on April 12, 2019 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong on the subway. The subway police tried to transfer her to her local Ziyanglu Police Station, but the latter refused to take her. The subway police then turned her over to the local Domestic Security Office.

The subway police and the Domestic Security Office ransacked her home the next morning and confiscated her computer, printer, and other items. She was detained at the Wuhan City No. 1 Detention Center before being transferred to the police-affiliated Ankang Hospital.

On May 14, 2019, the Hanyang District Procuratorate approved her arrest. The prosecutor indicted her on November 6, 2019, and forwarded her case to the Hanyang District Court.

The court initially scheduled her trial for July 28, 2020, but later changed it to September 10. Ms. Tang’s lawyer entered a not-guilty plea for her during her virtual hearing in September. She also testified in her own defense.

The judge sentenced Ms. Tang to 3.5 years in prison and fined her 2,000 yuan on November 9, 2020. She has appealed the verdict with the Wuhan City Intermediate Court.
