Wuhan Woman Held Incommunicado in a Brainwashing Center

Nov. 25, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) When Ms. Qian Juxiang’s 15-day detention for talking to people about Falun Gong expired, the authorities refused to release her, but took her to a secret brainwashing center and have held her there since.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Qian, of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, was arrested on October 17, 2021 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was given 15 days at the Wuhan City No.1 Women’s Lockup. The police told her family that her local residential committee would pick her up on November 2.

On October 31, an agent of the Jiangxia District 610 Office, an extralegal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong, called Ms. Qian’s husband and indicated that they would take her to a brainwashing center two days later.

When Ms. Qian’s family went to the lockup on November 2, she had already been taken away by Peng of Jiangxia District Political and Legal Affairs Committee, Jiang Guowen of the Zhifang Police Station and a few plainclothes officers.

Ms. Qian’s family called the officers and staff members of her local residential committee to inquire about her whereabouts, but all of them denied having knowledge of where she was.

The family then reported her disappearance to the police and called the mayor’s hotline to seek justice. The police later admitted to her family that they had taken Ms. Qian to a brainwashing center, but they still refused to provide any other details about her detention location.

Ms. Qian took up Falun Gong in 1998 and she credits the practice for turning her into a better person. After the persecution began one year later, she was targeted for upholding her faith. Prior to her latest ordeal, she was previously arrested five times and held in brainwashing centers four times.
