Hefei City, Anhui Province: One Woman Sentenced to Prison, Another Arrested Twice Within Six Months, for Their Faith

Nov. 22, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Anhui Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old Hefei City, Anhui Province resident was recently sentenced to ten months for practicing Falun Gong. Another Hefei resident in her 60s was arrested twice and had her home ransacked four times within six months, also for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chen Tianxia Sentenced

For distributing Falun Gong informational materials, Ms. Chen Tianxia, 76, was previously sentenced to an eight-month prison term by the Shushan District Court, and allowed to serve time at home. As soon as the term ended, the court gave her another ten months. She was taken to the Hefei City Women’s Detention Center in October 2021 and later transferred to the Anhui Province Women’s Prison.

Ms. Sun Yishu Arrested Twice in Six Months

A group of 30 police officers broke into Ms. Sun Yishu’s home on April 27, 2021. They ransacked the home and took her to a brainwashing session hosted by the Sanliqiao Police Station. The brainwashing session was part of the “Zero-out” campaign, in which every Falun Gong practitioner on the government’s blacklist was ordered to renounce their faith, lest they face detention and brainwashing.

As soon as Ms. Sun was released two weeks later, the police ransacked her home again. She then moved back to her other residence in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

Ms. Sun and her husband returned to Hefei on October 2, 2021 to get some clothes. On their way back to Nanjing on October 5, they were stopped at the train station and taken to the nearby police station. The police revealed that they had been monitoring her location by tracking her husband’s cellphone. She was interrogated overnight. All her Falun Gong books and other informational materials were confiscated.

The police ordered Ms. Sun’s husband to take them to their home in Hefei for another search on the next day. Because Ms. Sun firmly disagreed, one officer said to her, “I was planning to detain you for only a few days because of your advanced age. But since you didn’t cooperate with us, I will give you 30 days first.”

Ms. Sun was taken to the Hefei City Women’s Detention Center on the evening of October 6. Her husband was still forced by the police to take them home for another search.

Although Ms. Sun was released two weeks later on October 21, the police also notified their counterparts in Nanjing to ransack her home there.

Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, Ms. Sun, a former textile factory worker, has been repeatedly arrested for her faith. She has already served a two-year labor camp term and a five-year prison term.
