Zhejiang Woman Tried for Distributing Materials About Her Faith

July 31, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Zhejiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Yongkang City, Zhejiang Province resident was tried by Wucheng District Court through a teleconference on July 21, 2020, for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Shi Mengqiao’s lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her and was frequently interrupted by the judge when he argued that the persecution didn’t have any legal basis.

Ms. Shi testified in her own defense and shared the benefits she has experienced in practicing Falun Gong. She urged the judge and the prosecutor not to follow the communist regime’s persecution policy, as they would be held accountable one day. The judge didn’t stop her.

The judge adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict.

Ms. Shi was arrested on February 12, 2020, after being noticed by the police on surveillance cameras for distributing Falun Gong materials. Two dozen officers ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, computer, printer and electronic bicycle. Her husband, Mr. Hu Tiejun, was also arrested and held in custody for one day. Ms. Shi was later transferred to Yongkang City Detention Center and indicted by the Wucheng City District Procuratorate.
