Nong’an County, Jilin Province: 11 Arrested and 1 Harassed in 24 Hours

July 30, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) The police in Nong’an County, Jilin Province, arrested 11 Falun Gong practitioners in 24 hours between July 15 and July 16, 2020. They also harassed an 85-year-old practitioner on July 15.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ten were seized during the day on July 15 while the remaining practitioner was arrested in the early morning hours of July 16.

Four officers broke into Ms. Zhang Xiuzhi’s home around 7:30 a.m. on July 15 when her husband opened the door to go to work. The officers confiscated Ms. Zhang’s cellphone, searched her home, and asked her if she had any banners about Falun Gong. They videotaped the entire incident. It’s not clear where Ms. Zhang is now being detained.

Ms. Zhang Shuyun, 72, was arrested on the stairs of her apartment building around 8 a.m. on July 15. Her cellphone and Falun Gong books were confiscated.

Ms. Cai Yuying, in her 60s, and her husband Mr. Yu Chunlin were also arrested at home. The police pried open their front door, leaving two big holes. The officers left their door open when they took the couple away.

Ms. Gao Xiaoqi visited a practitioner (name unknown) when the police were ransacking that practitioner’s home. Although the police didn’t arrest Ms. Gao right away, they arrested her later in the day after locating her home through facial recognition and other surveillance networks.

The officers broke into Ms. Gao’s home by smashing a back window. They confiscated 184,000 yuan in cash, as well as her printer, computer, cellphone, several flash-drives, and self-adhesive stickers with information about Falun Gong printed on them.

Ms. Gao kept the large amount of cash at home to print Falun Gong information on the bills. Given the information censorship in China, practitioners have to use creative and grassroots channels to raise awareness about the persecution of their faith.

Ms. Wu Dongmei, 49, was also arrested and had her home ransacked. Her arrest came only ten days after her husband, Mr. Zhao Dazhi, passed away. It’s not clear whether Mr. Zhao practiced Falun Gong.

Mr. Shan, in his 60s, Ms. Ren Ping and her husband Mr. Li Wei were also arrested.

Ms. Guo, 85, was harassed on July 15 and had her computer and cellphone confiscated.

Another practitioner, Ms. Sun Fengxian, was arrested around 1 a.m. on July 16.
