Shandong Woman Tried for Her Faith After Nine Months of Detention

July 19, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Jinan City, Shandong Province resident was tried through a teleconference on June 17, 2020 for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Liu Xiaohui, 56, was arrested in a police sweep on the morning of September 19, 2019. She has been held at Jinan Detention Center since.

The police submitted Ms. Liu’s case to Tianqiao District Procuratorate in late December 2019. The prosecutor indicted her and forwarded her case to the Tianqiao District Court in early April 2020.

During her hearing on June 17, her lawyer entered a not-guilty plea for her in the courthouse. Ms. Liu, who attended remotely from the detention center, testified in her own defense and argued that she didn’t do anything wrong in upholding her faith. She demanded acquittal.

The judge adjourned the hearing around 4 p.m. without announcing a verdict.
