Verdict Against Liaoning Woman for Her Faith Upheld

April 24, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) The Jinzhou City Intermediate Court in Liaoning Province recently upheld a prison sentence against a local resident for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Nie Jing was arrested on September 24, 2019 after work. She appeared in Taihe District Court on December 13, 2019 and was sentenced to 2.5 years on December 29, with a 20,000 yuan fine.

Ms. Nie’s mother soon filed an appeal as her legal representative to the trial court. She recently found out that the judge didn’t forward her appeal to the higher court until March 7, 2020, when the appeal window had closed for several months.

Although the judge at the intermediate court accepted her appeal, he upheld the verdict without a hearing on March 25, only a few days after briefly talking to Ms. Nie’s mother about the case over the phone.
