(Minghui.org) I was born in a coastal area in Shandong Province 66 years ago. The Cultural Revolution started before I finished elementary school, and my parents were persecuted because of their family background.
When I was 13, I had to work in the fields. Later, I worked as a laborer. This type of work was not for me, so I left and went to my aunt’s home in northeast China, where I got married. My mother-in-law was very unkind, and I had no one I could talk to. Our son was born when my husband was out of town, and my mother-in-law was not of much help.
A neighbor gave me a copy of Zhuan Falun, and my celestial eye opened. Then, I experienced illness karma. I knew that Master Li was cleansing my body. I didn’t worry about it and kept doing the exercises. I recovered within a short time. Master cleansed my body and eliminated all my ailments.
I got a job in a community hospital for 50 patients in 1997. I had to change the sheets and clean the rooms and uniforms, a job that should have been done by two people. I thought I was being taken advantage of and quit. I stayed home for two years.
The hospital director called me back to work in 1999. Since I had in the interim begun to practice Dafa, I would no longer quibble over job assignments. I worked very hard and did not complain, whether it was my responsibility or not.
One of my responsibilities was to carry buckets of hot water to different floors. I once spilled the water on my leg and burned it. Although they told me to put some ointment on it, I refused. I also did not take off for two weeks, as others did when they had such an injury. Instead I studied the Fa and recovered within a few days.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa) in 1999. I decided that a practitioner's behavior would expose their lies.
When a patient in his 90s soiled his bed, his children did not know what to do. I thought that his children had never taken care of a patient, nor did they want to lower themselves and clean their father’s bed. Even though it was not my job I cleaned him and the bed.
His children watched and were very grateful. They kept saying they would write a letter of appreciation for what I did, but I told them that there was no need. I explained that I practiced Falun Dafa and was following my master’s teachings on how to be a good person. This gave the children a chance to see what a Dafa practitioner was really like.
Another patient, a young man with congenital brain damage, was in a vegetative state. After he was operated on in a large hospital, he was transferred to our hospital. His parents, both in their 70s, spent all their savings on his treatment. When they had hardly anything left, they had to eat millet gruel every day.
I felt sorry for them, so I shared some of my food. I helped them take care of the young man whenever necessary. They were touched and said, “Falun Dafa is good!’ They told me that the old man’s nephew was a police officer, and they would tell him that Falun Dafa practitioners were truly good people.
A woman of about could not speak after a stroke. Her husband often asked me to help look after her. I gave him some truth-clarification brochures. He told me that he was a police officer and said that he had not persecuted Falun Gong practitioners – he was in charge of household registration. I asked him to share those materials with his colleagues, and he agreed.
A few days later, he told me that one of his colleagues saw his name in the list of persecutors in a booklet. He was shocked and wondered why his name was on the list. He said that he would not persecute Falun Gong practitioners in the future.
One afternoon, I was ready to go home when a large group of people came in because of food poisoning. Some of them were vomiting, and some were having diarrhea. I offered to stay and take care of them. I gave them water, held the IV fluid bags, and helped them to the bathroom. I was busy until 10 that night. They were very grateful. Some of them wanted to give me money, while others offered me food, but I didn’t accept anything.
The hospital director secretly told me that they were from the TV station. He told me to not mention anything about Falun Gong. I thought to myself that I should certainly talk to them about Falun Gong if they were from the TV station. When they tried to give me some money again, I turned them down and told them that I practiced Falun Dafa, that Falun Dafa was good, and that the “self-immolation” on Tiananmen Square was a hoax. At first they were scared and unwilling to listen. After a few days in the hospital, they told me, “You are a very good person. Very good!”
When a paralyzed man in his 80s was brought in, his children came to take care of him. I clarified the truth to them. His son told me that he was the director of a police station. I told him not to persecute Falun Gong. He scolded me and refused to let me talk to him about Falun Gong. He would not listen to me no matter how I tried to explain things to him.
I thought to myself that I would let my behavior influence him since he did not agree with Dafa. Whenever they needed help, I offered to help. Not only them, I treated every patient the same. Patients and family members all commented on what a nice, genuine person I was. That made a good impression on the police director, and he was no longer was against Dafa.
An elderly couple from Inner Mongolia were tourists in our town when the woman was hospitalized for a hemorrhage. I told them Falun Dafa was good. The man said he was a soldier and was not against Dafa. By the time the lady was discharged, they'd run out of money. Nobody except me would help them. The man was touched and asked me why I did not come to dinner with them when he'd invited the entire staff of the hospital. I told him that I practiced Dafa and would not take advantage of others. He was moved and did not know how to respond.
Master Li said:
“It is said in Buddhism that one lives because of karmic retribution. If you owe someone something, he will find you for the repayment. If he gets too much repayment, he will have to return the surplus to you the next time around. If a son disrespects his parents, they will trade places in the next life. This is how it cycles on and on.” (Lecture Six, Zhuan Falun)
After studying Dafa, I understood that perhaps my mother-in-law did not treat me well because I did not treat her well in my previous life. So I did not hate her anymore. My husband used to give his parents money and gifts. When I found out about it, I would fight with him for several days. After studying Dafa, I reconciled with my mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law. During the holidays, I would take gifts when I visited my mother-in-law’s family. I no longer objected when my husband gave my mother-in-law money.
There were often over a dozen people at dinner and there was not enough space for everyone to sit at the table. I waited to sit until they finished eating. After dinner, everyone went to play mahjong. I was left to wash the dishes, clean the kitchen, and prepare another meal. I did not complain.
My genuine attitude touched my mother-in-law. She made me a cotton vest, something she had never done before. My mother-in-law told me that she would ask her grandson to look for a wife like me in the future. I knew that she thought well of Dafa.
There are many stories from my cultivation path I could tell. Sometimes I did not do well and even felt depressed at times. But now I just listen to Master’s teachings and do the three things well.
