(Minghui.org) A 75-year-old mother and her son are awaiting verdicts for their faith in Falun Gong after they were tried separately by the same court in early January 2020.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wang Xuezhen

Ms. Wang Xuezhen, a retired drug administration officer, and her son, Mr. Ma Minqing, 50, both of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, were arrested on July 9, 2019 after the police suspected them of spreading information about Falun Gong with public wifi.

Their arrests were approved in August 2019. Two months later, the police submitted their cases to Guangzhou City Procuratorate, which then transferred them to Haizhu District Procuratorate.

Both the mother and son were indicted in early November and their cases were moved to Haizhu District Court.

Mr. Ma appeared in Haizhu District Court on January 2, 2020, and his mother one day later. Both of them are now awaiting verdicts at Guangzhou City No.1 Detention Center, where they have been held since their arrests.

Due to the poor living conditions, Ms. Wang has high blood pressure and other medical issues.

Mr. Ma is the sole breadwinner at home. As his wife is bedridden and their daughter is still attending college, their family is now left in a dire situation with him and his mother both being detained.
