(Minghui.org) Having been incarcerated 14 years for practicing Falun Gong, a 72-year-old Lanzhou City, Gansu Province resident is facing prosecution for her faith again.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ma Jun was arrested on July 30, 2020 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was interrogated for nearly 12 hours and released in the middle of the night.
She was arrested again on October 9, also for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home, confiscated her Falun Gong books and released her in the evening.
For the next few weeks, the police and residential committee staff members kept coming back to harass her. On the afternoon of October 23, Ms. Ma delivered a letter to the residential committee staff, urging them not to participate in the persecution.
When her family came to visit her on October 25, no one opened the door. For the next week, they came back a few times and Ms. Ma was still not home. They later confirmed that Ms. Ma was arrested on October 27 and has been detained at the Lanzhou City No. 1 Detention Center since.
The police submitted her case to the Chengguan District Procuratorate on November 4 and the prosecutor approved her arrest six days later.
Ms. Ma worked at a travel company before retirement. She took up Falun Gong in August 1995. As she held firm to her faith after the onset of the persecution, she was arrested four times, sentenced twice for a total of 12 years and held captive at a brainwashing center for 2.5 years between 1999 and 2015. The authorities suspended her pension since 2015 and only provided her with low-income subsidy.
Prior to her latest arrests in 2020, Ms. Ma had been arrested on June 10, 2018 for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. She was detained at the Taoshuping Detention Center for an unknown amount of time.
