(Minghui.org) A retired physician arrested for her faith in Falun Gong is still detained after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. He Dangling, a resident of the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province, was arrested on September 22, 2020 after the police saw her distributing Falun Gong materials through surveillance cameras.
Despite the fact that she was found to have lung cancer during the required physical examination, the police refused to release her and ordered her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. Ms. He refused to comply and is now detained at the Kaili City Detention Center.
Because of upholding her faith, Ms. He, 59, has served two labor camp terms and was subjected to relentless torture in the past two decades.
Ms. He was first given a three-year term on December 30, 2002. In order to force her to give up Falun Gong, guards at the labor camp forced her to stand at attention for more than 20 hours every day, beat her, slammed her head against the wall, poured cold water into her clothes, and put her into a burlap sack.
After Ms. He was released, the police constantly harassed her. She was forced to live away from home to avoid further persecution.
Ms. He was arrested again on April 24, 2008 on a train. She was held at the railroad detention center for more than a month, before being sent to the Guizhou Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp in early June.
She was subjected to the long hours of standing torture again, from 5 a.m. to 3 a.m. The next day, her feet and legs were severely swollen, yet her body was emaciated.
For six months, the guards didn’t allow Ms. He to take showers or wash her hair, let alone doing laundry. She was also denied the right to buy daily necessities, including sanitary napkins and toilet paper. An inmate was punished by the guards for sharing her toilet paper with Ms. He.
Other torture methods Ms. He was subjected to included brainwashing, sleep deprivation, and restricted access to the restroom.
