Xinjiang Woman Targeted for Her Faith in Falun Gong, Family Implicated

Oct. 13, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Xinjiang, China

(Minghui.org) A resident of Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, was recently arrested for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. A few of Ms. Yan Yuqin's family members, who don’t practice Falun Gong, were also targeted by the authorities.

A group of officers broke into Ms. Yan’s home on September 29, 2020. They searched her place and confiscated a box of Falun Gong books. Her husband, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, was also arrested.

On the next morning, the police harassed Ms. Yan’s sister and searched her residence. In the evening, Ms. Yan’s son and his girlfriend were arrested. The police interrogated them and asked for much of their personal information, but refused to provide any update about Ms. Yan’s case.

In the next few days, the police harassed Ms. Yan’s sister and brother, causing tremendous mental distress to them.

Ms. Yan’s family once went to the police station to inquire about her case. They waited for the entire morning, but the police refused to meet with them or provide any information to them.

Ms. Yan was transferred to a detention facility managed by the Tianshan District 610 Office, an extralegal agency created to persecute Falun Gong, on October 4. It’s not clear whether her husband is still detained.

In the past 20 years, Ms. Yan has been repeatedly arrested and detained for her faith. She served three years in prison. In addition to the incarceration, she suffered tremendous financial losses. The persecution took a toll on her health. She later developed breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy.
