(Minghui.org) A Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, resident was sentenced to six years in prison for carrying a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Liu Yuansheng was arrested on July 2, 2019 while going through a security checkpoint at Kuandian Train Station in Dandong City. The police arrested him after discovering Zhuan Falun in his backpack.

Mr. Liu was given 15 days of administrative detention at Dandong Detention Center.

Officers from Shenyang Railroad Police Department and Domestic Security Division ransacked Mr. Liu's and his parents’ homes in Shenyang on July 4. Li Zhi, an officer from the Domestic Security Division, intimidated Mr. Liu’s parents, who are in their late 70s.

Mr. Liu was later taken back to Fengyutan Police Station and given 30 days of criminal detention at Shenhe District Detention Center.

In August, the police submitted his case to Shenhe District Procuratorate, which soon approved his arrest.

Mr. Liu was indicted in October, and his case was submitted to Shenhe District Court.

As the main breadwinner for his family, Mr. Liu endured tremendous stress after his arrest. He suffered persistent diarrhea and couldn’t keep anything down. He also had a heart condition. He is now emaciated.

Mr. Liu was tried by Shenhe District Court on November 7, 2019. His lawyer entered a not guilty plea for him. His elderly father also defended him and demanded that the police compensate their family’s financial losses during Mr. Liu’s detention.

The judge sentenced Mr. Liu to six years in prison on December 16, 2019. His family vowed to appeal for him.
