(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Qingdao and Ms. Sun Guangdong from Hainan City, Anhui Province, were sentenced to prison terms for not renouncing their belief in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhang Pinyon, 56, from the Changeling Residential Community, Chengdu Town, Fengtai County, Hunan City, Anhui Province, was arrested on the afternoon of July 26, 2018, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Songhua Town, Fengtai County (formerly known as Chengdu Township, located in the county’s northern suburbs). He was taken to Beidaba Police Station by officers from the Fengtai County Police Department.
Ma Gang, the deputy chief of the police department in charge of the Domestic Security Division, along with other officers, broke into Mr. Hang's home and ransacked it. They confiscated weekly Falun Gong publications, DVDs, the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party publication, and Falun Gong books.
Mr. Zhang was transferred to the Fengtai Detention Center the following day. The police told his family, “Whether we make a big deal out of it or not depends on you.”
Mr. Zhang was officially placed under arrest. The family, who failed to understand the value and purpose of Falun Gong, signed the arrest warrant under police pressure.
The local court scheduled Mr. Hang's trial for November 26, 2018, but the hearing was canceled. Since there was no court order to release him, he was kept in the detention center.
It was reported that Mr. Zhang was sentenced to a four-year prison term. At first, he was taken to the Baidu Prison in Anhui Province (located in Baidu Town, Jiangsu County, Hebei City). After the prison refused to admit him, he was taken to the Anhui Province No. 1 Prison (also known as Fuyang Prison).
Ms. Sun Guangdong, 65, from Tangshan Town, Tangshan District, Hainan City, Anhui Province, has been repeatedly fined, harassed, and arrested by local public security authorities since 2015.
She was notified by the Tangshan District Court that a second trial would be held on April 20, 2018.
On April 19, 2018, the day before the trial, a group of people broke into Ms. Sun's home, knocked her to the ground, handcuffed her, and took her away. Her family was not informed of her whereabouts.
Her family was told some time in December 2018 that Ms. Sun had been taken to the Anhui Province Women’s Prison. It was reported in recent days that Ms. Sun had been secretly sentenced to a three-year prison term.
