Judge Admits to Following Extralegal Agency's Order to Sentence Woman for Her Faith

August 17, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Junan County, Shandong Province, resident was secretly transferred to Shandong Women's Prison without her family's knowledge after she was convicted for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual tradition that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Qian Jinhua, 56, was arrested on September 29, 2018, while visiting a friend. The police had been monitoring her for days before making the arrest and sending her to Hedong District Detention Center.

The police later submitted her case to Lanshan District Procuratorate, which indicted her and forwarded her case to Lanshan District Court on February 27, 2019.

Mr. Qian stood trial on April 30, 2019. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her.

Judge Liu Xigang said to the lawyer after the hearing that he felt sympathetic for Ms. Qian, but he was unable to help her, as the verdict had already been determined by the 610 Office, an extralegal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong.

Judge Liu announced the two-year prison sentence against Ms. Qian a few days later. She was imprisoned in early May without her family's knowledge.

Past Persecution

Ms. Qian began to practice Falun Gong in July 1998. Many of her ailments, including low blood pressure, anemia and stomach problems, soon disappeared. She became more considerate of others and improved her relationship with her family.

She lives by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance and strives to be a good person. Impressed by her changes, her husband, Mr. Li Baoshan, also took up Falun Gong.

For talking about their faith in public, the couple has been subjected to repeated detention and harassment over the past 20 years.

Their daughter was only two when they were first arrested in 2000. Having witnessed several arrests of her parents, she would burst into tears whenever she saw a policeman. Ms. Qian's mother, nearly 80, sometimes couldn't eat for days after being terrified by the police's harassment and intimidation.

After the couple was forced to live away from home to avoid the persecution, the police often harassed their elderly parents instead.
